This was an amazing hostel. Extremely clean and very friendly staff. I was really surprised by how good the experience was. The rooms got cleaned every day, beds made and towels changed several times during the stay. It also has a nice social atmosphere where it is easy to meet people, but it is not a party hostel and has a very relaxed atmosphere.

I loved my 3 night stay here in ‘The Room at the Top’. I felt very safe and comfortable with lovely staff and fellow travellers on a quiet road. Breakfast is great as well as the wine. Very supportive staff ready to help you book excursions. I’d happily stay here again when I’m next in Cape Town.

I had a fantastic time staying at the BIG for one week! The staff were so friendly and welcoming making me immediately feel at home. They helped me with all my questions and needs throughout my stay. The beds were also very clean and comfy and the breakfast tasty and filling. Aylin their events manager did a great job communicating with the guests on a daily basis to make sure we knew all the fun activities going on in Cape Town and took a group of us out to dinner and First Thursdays event where we explored art galleries and danced the night away. It was a memorable stay I won't soon forget. I miss the team there already and hope to come back again someday!

I stayed for four nights in the mixed dorm while traveling solo. The room exceeded my expectations, with a comfy bed (much better than you’d expect in a hostel), an en-suite bathroom, and only three beds. Towels are provided for free, and the room is tidied up daily. Breakfast is also available if you don’t feel like cooking your own (which you can do). The common areas are fantastic—breakfast room, TV room, study room, garden, and swimming pool.|A massive added value is the staff, who make you feel like part of a big family and take great care of you. Thumbs up for the activities and excursions you can book through the hostel as well! I also enjoyed the diverse mix of guests, with people of all ages.|The area is fine, just few steps away from the sea promenade.

We had a lovely 6nt stay recently in one of the private rooms. We really enjoyed the hostel’s location, facilities and breakfast. The group chat that you are encouraged to join on arrival is a great idea too. And the whole team could not have been more friendly and welcoming.||In terms of improvements, the WiFi in our room was pretty patchy, the water pressure in the bathroom sink was terrible and it wasn’t really made clear to us that the beach towel rental was R100 per towel – pretty crazy for South Africa! They did take all these bits of feedback on board, though.||Would definitely consider staying again in the future.

What truly stood out about this accommodation was the staff. Prim, John, Tombi, Joselin—everyone at the BIG was incredibly friendly and caring. Even as a solo traveller, I felt completely at home. I fell ill during my stay, but they created a calm, supportive environment where I could rest and never once felt lonely. Special thanks to Prim for her kind understanding of my need to rest, and to John for his thoughtful care. The location is safe and convenient—just a 10-minute Uber ride to the V&A Waterfront. Security is robust, and both the rooms and communal kitchens are kept very clean. If you need any help during your stay, the team will go above and beyond to support you. I highly recommend this accommodation if you're looking for a friendly, clean, and safe place to stay in Cape Town. Thank you for making my first visit to Africa one of the most memorable trips of my life.

We stayed as a couple in a private room and this was spacious and comfortable. Huge bed, Netflix and a walk in shower. |The breakfast was a lovely offering and the hosts were so helpful and friendly. The place felt really inclusive and I’d visit again as a solo female traveller without hesitation. |Location wise, we found to be good. We hired a car so location was less important but it’s around 15 minutes down hill|to V&A and 15 uphill to Bo Kaap walking. Hostel had private parking too. Taxis are so cheap so getting around is pretty easy.

One of the best hostels I ever stayed! Clean and well equipped. Friendly stuff och in good location close to many restaurants and shops.
