Oh my God This place is amazing, wonderful. We had a perfect time there. If you are looking for something very Texan this is the place. Good is one of the most delicious that I had ever! The place had a perfect atmosphere, with very generous waitress and very friendly. The beer 🍺 was incredible. I would have so much for seeing about The Big Texan. In summary You must go there and see for yourself. Thank you everyone there.

While our steaks were cooked as ordered, the cut and seasoning could have been a bit better. Had too much fat and not enough seasoning for our taste. The sides were good but lacked enough seasoning. The rolls were spot on and absolutely delicious! Size portions are very large. You will not walk away hungry! The store has a lot of souvenirs to offer. Something for everyone! The employees were engaging and very nice. Overall a fun experience.

I had heard that this place was somewhat of a tourist attraction, but I still wanted to try it out to see what it had to offer. I want to start by saying that the service was absolutely wonderful, our server was attentive, kind, and truly made us feel welcome. That said, the overall atmosphere was a bit challenging for us. There was a strong scent in the air that was difficult to ignore, and the seating arrangement was not very comfortable, especially for those who value personal space. While there are a few booths for individual parties, most of the seating consists of long, shared tables meant to maximize capacity. This setup reminded us of cafeteria-style seating, which made it difficult to feel relaxed or enjoy any sense of privacy. Unfortunately, we were seated very close to another couple who were having a very personal and emotional conversation, which further highlighted the lack of separation between guests. If privacy is important to you, this is something to keep in mind when visiting. The food was also a bit disappointing. Although we understood that this is a popular tourist spot, we were hoping for a more flavorful experience. I ordered the spicy chicken quesadilla, but it lacked both spice and seasoning, and the main flavor that came through was the grease from the cheese. Interestingly, the most memorable part of our visit ended up being the large rattlesnake in the gift shop, which certainly made the experience unique.

Took a shot at the 72oz steak challenge at Big Texan Steak Ranch with a friend and let’s just say… we gave it our best effort. Unfortunately, we failed. No free steak for us. That said, it was an awesome experience. The atmosphere is fun and over the top Texas, and the whole place has a great energy, especially when someone attempts the challenge. The steak itself was actually really good just massive. I was eating leftovers for the next three days. Even if you don’t take on the challenge, it’s worth stopping in just for the experience.

I've been wanting to come here for several years because I passed through in my semi fairly often. They actually have truck parking in the back and quite a bit of it! My steak was perfection and the atmosphere was great there were three guys trying to eat the 72 oz at the top table in front.. one finished his the other had his potato left and there was a third one still working on it when I left! Lots of stuff to do here such as a shooting gallery a little country store a dessert bar candy stand and just all kinds of cute things.

This was my first visit here and it won't be my last. I stayed in the hotel and had breakfast at the steakhouse before heading off on the rest of my trip. First the hotel. Check in was quick, convenient, and I didn't have to stop at the front desk by utilizing keyless self check in. The room was clean, comfortable, and decorated with a wild west flare. The perfect room for a trip layover. Now the steakhouse. The building is large and has plenty to look at. I didn't get to explore the whole facility which has me regretful but excited for my next visit. The staff was friendly and attentive. The food was amazing! It definitely reflects their dedication to a well cooked, full of flavor, perfectly cooked steak. The prices were more than fair for the quantity and quality you get. They offer an electronic option to pay your bill so there is no standing at a register or handing your card to a server which is great. I can't wait to visit again.

Nothing like a Texas sunset. A true Route 66 experience and a must-stop in Amarillo. The Big Texan is fun, lively, and full of personality from the moment you walk in. The Western theme, music, and energy make it more than just a restaurant—it’s an attraction. Portions are generous, the steaks are flavorful and cooked just right, and the sides are classic and satisfying. Watching the famous 72-ounce steak challenge adds to the excitement, even if you’re just cheering from the sidelines. Service was friendly and efficient despite how busy it was. Drove 5 1/2 hours from Dallas to visit the place. Really wish I could have tried the 72oz but without the 1 hour challenge its a splurge of 200.00 , so I passed. I did get the 10oz prime rib with coleslaw n potato salad. The slaw had pineapple in it! I dared myself to taste it. ..Highly recommend for my slaw lovers. It was refreshing and tasty. For being Texan, the potato salad was a miss, salty n mush. No texture at all. My partner picked the 16oz ribeye ..yummy! His mac n cheese was a no with its dry n hard to swallow shells. He really enjoyed the cheesy potatoes, they didn't skimp in cheesy! I was hoping for a grand slam finish with my cherry cheesecake but it came iut frozen. I asked if I could get one not frozen and was told nothing was thawed. So we boxed n took the cheesecake for a late snack. Overall it was worth the bonding time and company. Id give it a yes on returning to try other menu items.

It was a fun experience. Food was also great. The corn was the bomb! Also the steak was seasoned to perfection. We ended up buying the seasoning and we have cooked many steaks with it now. So good!

I found this place through recommendations at the Amarillo airport, and I loved how authentic it felt--definitely a true Texas experience. The food was good, the service was great, and I really liked that they have their own beers. I tried the "Tres Hombres," and it was refreshing and tasty. For my meal, I ordered steak with two sides, and everything was great. Plus, there was a live singer who came to our table, making the experience even more special.

Such a fun pitstop if you're driving through or stopping in Amarillo. It gets crowded but there are plenty of things in the building to keep you busy while you wait for your table. The service is the main star here. It's seriously a 12/10. The waitress we had was so sweet and brought out our food like it was clock work. Steaks were cooked the way we ordered them and we got a nice view of the brave souls attempting the Big Steak challenge! I'd go back just for the dessert specifically, because it was Texas-sized and really good! Honestly, this is a spot that's more about the experience and atmosphere vs. the food. However, it's still worth the stop to enjoy at least once!

Bobbie was Amazing! The atmosphere was incredible. The customer service from being seated, to served to my exit was a terrific experience! I had the Porterhouse with the baked beans and the cheesy potatoes....so gooooodddd! I also had the Black Gold Bourbon Smash..so tasty! KUDOS Big Texan!!! Thank you Bobbie!!!

A Texas tradition we had to stop when going through the area. We arrived mid Saturday afternoon without a reservation. We were informed that it would be about 40 minutes, however, we were able to go right into the bar and get a hightop table immediately. An extensive meat lovers menu at really great prices. We intentionally ordered the larger steak because of the price and knowing that we would have leftovers for another day. The steaks were incredibly tender and seasoned perfectly. The prime rib was done exactly as requested. Multiple sides all very generous in portions made for an exceptionally filling meal. Our server was great. She kept checking on us and made sure that we wanted for nothing. One of the traditions at the steakhouse is the steak challenge that's offered in the main dining room where you can try to beat the clock and finish threebreaded shrimp, a roll, a salad, and a 72 ounce steak within an hour ; if you can succeed in meeting their challenge, it's free! We peaked in before we headed out however there was no one trying the challenge that day. This has been a stop for many a Food Network show, including man versus food who was able to beat the challenge! Plenty of Texan ambience to give you that ranch feel while you're enjoying your big steak. Big Tex has now added their own line of beers that are pleasant and refreshing with any meal. You must stop when you're in the area. Know ahead of time, it is quite the touristy place to go but it is truly an experience.

Fun stop and good steak. Originally located on Rt. 66, when the new interstate highway was opened, they moved to this location to stay in business. Having seen many towns along historic rt. 66, I understand this to be a savvy business move. Hard to miss this bright yellow building. Out front is a limo with long horn hood ornament and a giant heffer. Good photo ops. Big parking lot! On the front porch are many places to sit a spell. Maybe to wait for a table to be available? Once inside a gift shop is to your left. If you walk past this you'll find Zoltar waiting to tell your fortune. Further on is a shooting gallery where you can sit in a saddle and practice your aim. Just past that is a bar area. On your right as you enter is the hostess stand for restaurant access. All members of your party need to be present to be sat. We were given a choice of booth (downstairs only) or table, and was upstairs OK? Great views from upstairs. Just past the hostess area is a bakery shop with a number of sweet treats. Other shops along this wall were closed during our visit. Restrooms are down this hall as well. The restaurant is a large open room with booth seating along the walls and communal tables in the middle. When busy, parties are sat together at communal tables, so be prepared to meet new people. A couple of men were wandering the dining area serenading some of the tables. The kitchen is open to the dining room and a stage right in front of the kitchen is where you sit when taking on the 72oz steak dinner challenge. You are in full view of everyone in the dining area, a waste bucket by your feet just in case. A 60 minute timer overhead keeps track of your time. The upper level is a balcony which runs along the outer walls and over looks the dining room, stage and kitchen below. Tables of four are closely lined up along the balcony edge. A small room is in the back corner. Our waitress was kept quite busy and was doing a great job. When she had a minute we had a nice conversation. Food runners deliver meals. Drinks were brought by our waitress. Everyone we came in contact with was very nice. Our steaks were well cooked and tender. Heavily seasoned, they are a tasty meal. There are many sides to choose from and if steak is not your jam, they have other options. Our side salads were fresh, dressing is 'on the side'. They offer about 5 dressing choices. The loaded baked potato comes undressed with a container of sour cream and another with bacon and cheese so you can dress them as you like. Salt, pepper and butter are on the table. A basket of bread was delivered to the table before we ordered. Although a bigger size, the taste reminds me of Kings Hawaiian rolls. My SO ordered one of their house made beers. I tried their house Old Fashioned with walnut bitters. Both were well received. Our waters came in a plastic cups to keep as a souvinir. Prices are reasonable and the food quality good. They offer a lunch menu with an 8oz prime rib if their dinner sized 10 oz it too big. They also have kids and dessert menus.

Boss Lady and I finally decided to try out the breakfast. We've been coming here usually for lunch or dinner, which is always great. But, breakfast was a whole new experience. Our waiter was friendly and attentive. Their wait staff are always great. We do love it when they decorate for Christmas. I ordered the chicken and waffles. The chicken was not crispy and lacked flavor. Surprisingly, although the waffles looked burnt they were soft (in a bad way), I prefer them crunchy and they give you two of them, which is one too many. The syrup was definitely not from a maple tree, but at least they have real butter. She ordered the steak and eggs. The steak was delicious, as always, and the eggs were cooked over-medium as requested. But the potatoes were cold, rubbery and flavorless. Like they had been sitting around for some time in a cold pan. We also tried the French toast, which was just Okay. I don't know where they get their coffee or who's making it, but it was really weak. Overall, it was like-luster so we'll definitely NOT be having breakfast here again.

This is not my first visit. In my first go I took on that 72 oz challenge and tapped out at 40 oz but it was worth every penny. This time around we enjoyed a casual late night steak perfectly cooked and so massive we couldn't finish it. Even at 9pm it was still bustling! It's not a gimmick the food is good and it's worth a pit stop. It's a real Texas experience.

This isn't just a steakhouse, it's an event to behold! Yes, as soon as you come through the door, you are immediately whisked into a Texas style meal and good time. The steaks are cooked to perfection and the wait staff friendly and timely. Look around after your meal and check out the old mid-Western decor and gift shop. YeeeeeHaw! You won't be disappointed, you will have a big'ol Texas smile on your face.

We were traveling cross country in our rv. Made reservations ahead of time for this place. Make no mistake, it is a tourist / travelers crowded stop. It won't be your best dining experience nor your best steak you ever had..... that being said, the ranch, family style picnic table seating can be a lot of fun if you are with a group and the right mindset. Service was just ok as expected at a crowded restaurant that seats a few hundred people. Probably won't stop again.....

Updated: My husband I went on a whim. We planned on going on a Friday night and we called about 2 hours before we planned to eat there and they were out of reservations, but we could come in and join the waitlist. Okay, no big deal. We got there and the line is from the hostess stand to the front door, but it's moving quickly. The hostess tells us it's going to be a 45 minute wait, but we were prepared for something like that, so we stayed. We wandered around the property, tried out our aim at the play gun range, browsed the gift shop, and within 10 minutes our table was ready. We were able to sit upstairs which had a nice view of the whole dining area and competition table. Our waitress was super friendly and helpful with the menu and got us our drinks and rolls to the table right away. I got the filet with mashed potatoes and a side garden salad. My husband got the porterhouse with potato salad and French fries (he's on a gluten free diet, so options are limited for him). The food was all very good. The steaks needed some finishing salt or a garlic butter or something on top, but the sides were all delicious. First time here. Big Texan It's very unique and fun and has delicious steaks There's a place In the Los Angeles County area called Pinnacle Peak that is similar just like here you can watch them cook and they have this novelty thing of cutting off ties and hanging them on the wall. Big Texan is a lot bigger. No surprise right? After all it is Texas! It's quite the tourist attraction for sure. I had a bone-in ribeye with a delicious Caesar salad and cowboy beans and I think they gave me a whole jalapeno pepper. I had flavored iced tea that was sugar free which was nice and there are refills so I tried the strawberry peach and then the mango and they also have raspberry passion fruit and plain. The service is very friendly. You can bring in your pets (I'm assuming mostly dogs) but you can't feed them anything. That is a little bit torturous considering it's a steak restaurant. That is the one thing that I wish would change like they would have some kind of outdoor patio and maybe a dog bowl or leftover steak bones for the pets. There's a place up in Folsom California called "University of Beer" They have an amazing dog bowl but they give it for free if you buy a drink, with chicken in an egg and rice and vegetables. That would rock here. We want our dogs to be happy too. If you're traveling off the 40 is where it is and it's definitely worth coming and having a meal. There's a great gift shop as well.

I've never been to Amarillo and according to my coworker, this restaurant is a must try. They are known for their 72oz steaks. If eaten within an hour, the meal is free. I loved the western theme of the restaurant. From the table cloths to the uniforms. They also have a sweets shop, gift shop, games, a separate bar area, outside patio, and ample seating in the dining room area. We made a reservation and were seated promptly. The issue was with our server. He told us he was fairly new and it showed. He completely messed up every bit of our order. He further forgot about my salad and brought me the wrong steak. He also brought my coworker the wrong steak amd when the order was sent back, her food never came. I'm assuming he forgot about that as well. The mango margarita was TOO sweet. Tastes like pure syrup and the steak was okay. Probably would've been better had it been hotter. The sweet potato was good though! It was warm and soft and served with brown sugar. The soft drinks and water are served in a souvenir cup which is a plus considering they also have other souvenir cup options for sale between $5-$10. I don't think I'll ever be back in Amarillo but I wish the experience would have been better.

I'll start off by saying that I'm a vegetarian and my partner is a pescatarian so I can't speak to their steak which I know is their biggest draw. However, I still want to write this review for my fellow vegetarians so that they know that this is still a place where they can come and have options. We were staying at the adjoining motel so it made sense to come here for dinner. After 9+ hours on the road, we were exhausted and looking for a real meal that didn't come from a drive thru window. We arrived at around 7pm on a Saturday night and it was popping off! I don't know if they do reservations but highly recommend looking into it as it took us an hour or so to get a table. Thankfully, there is so much to do that we were happy to wait. We grabbed a drink at the bar (I had a delightful long island situation) and walked around the gift shop which entertained us for a good while. This place literally feels like a Texas themed amusement park! When we got our table, we had a good view of the folks doing the steak challenge which was interesting to watch. As for the food, we shared the Blazzin Sadles (fried jalapenos) and those things knocked my socks off. I'm not a fan of fried food to the point that the second I bite into it, I immediately regret ever ordering it BUT this was the exception! The breading was amazing and over the course of the past two week, I've thought about them multiple times. My partner ordered some sort of fried fish and the portion was massive so great for leftovers or a ravenous individual. I got a side of mac & cheese, a side salad, and broccoli. My portions were significantly smaller because they were sides but it ended up being more than enough food for me after I devoured the jalapenos. I will say that my food was mid but it did the trick. For instance, the broccoli was a little overcooked and lacking in seasoning but I was just happy they had options. Overall, I would come back specifically for those darn jalapenos and for the fun vibes.

Tourist trap. This restaurant is not a good representation of what the Panhandle of Texas really is. It makes a parody out of our home town and area. The steaks are mediocre, the baked potatoes are cold, the waitress does not pay attention, and when the manager comes over when there's a problem, it is completely insincere. It is very overpriced once again because it is a tourist trap. For the price I paid. I expected an excellent steak dinner. Instead, I got a cold potato, hair baked into my dinner rolls, and the manager blamed it on getting the dinner rolls from some other place and it must have, "happened there", instead of owning up to your restaurant's mistake. I am very disappointed, and I will not be going back, nor will I tell any of my friends or family traveling through Amarillo to go eat there.

Go early to avoid crowds. Meat/menu choice/quality was excellent. This is a popular route 66 lunch/dinner destination

Don't think we will ever go back...... Ordered the 18oz ribeye and the 'cut' of meat had odd flavors and textures in different bites. Through out the whole steak, was this thin 'plastic' stretchy film......which looks like meat glue

All in all, it's a great environment, good service, and decent food. Definitely worth the stop for the experience! This wasn't my first visit to The Big Texan Steak Ranch in Amarillo, but it's my first time writing a review. All my previous visits were before I got involved with Yelp, but let me tell you, if you're traveling anywhere near Amarillo, this place absolutely needs to be on your bucket list. Everything here is done big--just like Texas itself! There's a lot to enjoy beyond the food. The gift shop is fantastic, with a really unique variety of gifts that you won't find just anywhere. Hospitality is spot on, too. Whether you're grabbing a drink at the bar or watching the kids at the shooting arcade, there's plenty to keep everyone entertained. And don't forget to stop by the candy store for some fudge and other sweet treats. Visually, the whole place is a treat--there's so much to look at, it's well worth the stop even if you're just passing through. Now, onto the meal. I ordered the Duke Cut Ribeye, a hearty 16-ounce steak, along with fried okra and creamed corn with green chili for my sides. They bring out complimentary dinner rolls with plenty of butter, which were absolutely delicious. Sweet tea was my drink of choice, and for an appetizer, I went with the mountain oysters. The mountain oysters were just as good as I remember them from previous visits. I don't have a ton of experience with them outside of here, but I've ordered them more than once and they always hit the spot. The creamed corn with green chili had a fantastic flavor. They warn you it's spicy, but it's mild enough that even a two-year-old could handle it! The fried okra was slightly overcooked, but still decent. The sweet tea was perfect--just what I expected from Texas. As for the ribeye, it wasn't the best I've had, but it wasn't bad either. It fell somewhere in the middle in terms of quality. There were a few chewy bits that I feel a good ribeye shouldn't have, but overall, it was fine. Maybe my expectations were a little high, but the steak wasn't a total letdown. Here's the thing: you don't come to The Big Texan just for the food. The experience is what makes it special, kind of like going to Disneyland or a themed restaurant--the experience often outweighs the meal. That being said, the food is definitely decent, maybe even a little better than that, and still better than what you'd get at most themed spots like Disneyland. Everything was clean and tidy, the bathrooms were in good shape, and I got lucky by arriving right after they opened, so it wasn't packed yet.

The big Texan is all experience. The food not so much. Service very good as is the beer. I appreciated the hostess giving off menu vegan options. My friend found their chicken fried steak tough. I opted for steak tomatoes and a blonde lager both were good. You come for experience not the food

Shoutout tourist traps. Definitely gave some like amusement park vibes but honestly was a cool first time experience of "Texan" culture. Prime rib was ok, the au jus and mustard sauce was great. THE FRIED MUSHROOMS THOUGH. GOD BLESS TEXAS. Absolute cinema. Super juicy and crispy. Ranch was also great, lowkkkkkkk almost as good as Wingstop ranch. Fries were MID ASF DO NOT GET THEM.

Make sure your expectations are in line with reality: If you are coming here to treat the family to a fun experience with activities, take pictures, and touristy kinda stuff, it's great! Shooting range was a blast for my 10yr old, nice gift shop, good appetizers and decent overpriced food, you will love this place. If you are coming here for a great steak, you will be disappointed. Ordered the ribeye medium rare. Steak was literally raw uncooked except for the outside layer. My wife and I have been together 13+ years and eat out a lot, this is the first time she's ever seen me send food back to the kitchen. If it was rare I would have eaten it, but it clearly had still been frozen when they grilled it and was straight uncooked. They took it and brought it back, but it was still totally cold and uncooked. Took it and gave me a new one, and this one must not have been fully defrosted either lol. The top 50% was cooked to rare, bottom half was uncooked. The service was fantastic, we loved our waitress, and the manager even came over to talk to me since we had the problem with the steak. I cannot emphasize enough that we are not picky diners, and pretty much have almost never sent food back in our entire lives. I make a lot of steaks at home and eat at a lot of steak places, this was just bad unfortunately. TLDR; take the family, enjoy the activities, order lots of food, skip the expensive steaks and get a burger.

I've been to the Big Texan now three times over the years. Every time I've came it's always been a pleasurable experience. The first time I tried the 72oz steak challenge and failed. That's a lot of food when you include the sides. The second time and today I got the Fort Worth Ribeye. Both times they were spot on when I asked for them medium rare. I also got the okra with my steak and it was delicious. The service was great considering they were packed. We never had to wait on refills at all and our food came out quickly. The atmosphere is on another level. Take the time to walk around the building and enjoy the gift shop. There is a ton of things to see! Do yourself a favor and make the stop if you are passing through. Maybe someone will be trying the challenge! There was a man from Minnesota who gave it a valiant effort, but came up short today.

Stopped in here for dinner on our way through Amarillo. There is plenty of parking and it's right off the freeway. We came late so we were seated right away. It took pretty long for a server even though place was not even half full since it was pretty late. That being said the server was friendly once she got there. We ordered the 10 oz filet which comes as 2 5 oz. It's not made for 2 people but for me and wife it's perfect. It comes with 2 sides so we got 2 salads and added 1 loaded baked potato. We also got a half order of fried mushrooms. The meal also came with dinner rolls. The rolls were fantastic. Think Texas Roadhouse with regular butter. The fried mushrooms were also good and the half order is quite large. The salads were ok. I mean they are regular side salads. Now onto the filet. They were cooked well but I don't think they seasoned them at all. I have never added salt and pepper to my already cooked steak until that night. Since no seasoning I asked for a steak sauce like A1. I was informed they had their own and brought it. It was not very good. Very very mustard forward. All in all place was pretty cool. The inside has a store a shooting gallery and a desert stand. It's a fun place to stop and if you have kids they'd love it. I'd go back.

All of the Steaks looked really good. My party all had Chicken Fried Steak. Served with a huge fresh Jalapeno. I sliced the pepper up thin, and it was really good with the C F S. Service was fast and friendly. This is a huge place. Come see for yourself.!

Definitely a tourist place but guess what... we were here touring!!! The place was awesome and lots of cool, unique things to check out. The service was awesome and the ambience was cool! The food was pretty good, I had the chicken fried chicken with mashed potatoes and fried okra.... Now the fried mushrooms were AMAZING!!!!!! They had a perfect batter and they were hot and fresh. This was a pretty cool place and worth the visit.

We stopped by here because it is on Route 66 and very well-known. The food was mediocre; they didn't have the best steaks but the ambiance was very good! It gives you a stereotypical Texan experience of "Everything is Bigger in Texas" and the service was very quick.

Well yes it's a tourist trap, but it was the locals that told us to give it a try. The ambience is definitely fun and entertaining for all ages. The service was quick and friendly and most importantly our food was great. We actually shared the Duke!!! It's a 16 oz bone in ribeye. It was cooked exactly as we ordered, we had a baked potato and garden salad. I have to mention the salad dressing as they were authentic and think, it was so nice to have salad dressing that wasn't watered down. Finally the yeast rolls were warm, fresh and sweetly delicious. I can't even tell you how many times we passed this place traveling through Amarillo, so glad we finally tried. Once again, this is another road trip favorite

My visit to the Big Texan was a major disappointment. The food was absolutely garbage and lacked any flavor whatsoever. From the under-seasoned steaks to the bland side dishes, nothing on the menu was remotely satisfying. It's a shame because the concept and atmosphere held so much promise, but the execution was severely lacking. The only saving grace for the Big Texan was the service. The staff was friendly, attentive, and did their best to enhance our dining experience. It's because of their efforts that I'm even giving this place two stars. Despite their excellent service, it's not enough to make up for the poor quality of the food. I can say with certainty that I won't be going back to the Big Texan. There are plenty of other dining options out there that offer both great food and service, and I'd rather spend my time and money at those establishments. If you're considering a visit, you might want to think twice.

Yes, this place is a tourist trap. Yes, it's still 100% still worth the stop. We had reservations, quick service! It was busy so I highly recommend reservations. You feel like you're on a ranch for sure. Our food came out quickly (due to ordering our steaks rare and medium rare) but I was still shocked at how fast service was. The rolls were AMAZING. Prime rib was cooked perfectly, and the small size was just enough for me. Definitely check out the desserts, the slices of cake are huge. Fed two of us for two nights!

Great family environment, staff was super friendly, its a great experience for anyone, we tried the 72oz Steak challenge and had been looking forward to it for years, its NO JOKE! Dont know how they do it! Great quality food and great options of your typical Steak house for those not wanting to tackle the beast.

Visited 4/12/2024 Our Dinner at The World's Famous Big Texas Steakhouse. This place is worth a visit in Amarillo TX. Large Servings and Great Selections. For a starter I ordered a sampler of Smoked Pork Ribs. OMG Amazing. Perfectly Smoked fall off the bone tender very well seasoned. Had I'd known they would be that good I would have ordered The Pork Rib Dinner. Highly Recommended. Loretta ordered The 12oz Bone in Rib Eye Steak with Mashed Potatoes and Ranch Beans. Nicely done and good size dinner. I ordered The Twin 5oz Fillet Dinner Smothered in Sautéed Onions and Mushrooms and Mashed Potatoes and Gravy with Green Chili Cream Corn. Very good for a Texas Steakhouse. All in all a fun and Tasty Place to Grab a Bite.

Came as a tourist, left surprised. Didn't expect the food to be good. The steak was heavy on seasoning, but cooked perfect. The sides were 10/10. Portion size was huge.

In 1999, Ashland Chemical took us here for a sales meeting. It was a blast! Taking my boys was even better. Good food. Good people. Good fun. Make a reservation if possible. If not, still well worth the wait! Noah and I shared the tomahawk steak. Delicious. Two people attempted and won the contest during our meal. Crazy impressive.

Yes is a tourist trap!! It has games, ice cream, gift shop, restaurant. The gift shop has plenty of variety. The place is fun and the patio huge! Fun place to stop by The restaurant has waiting times and moves fast. We were on road trip and went on our way to our destination and stopped on our way back. First time we had amazing server older lady with black hat and vest. Sweetest fun lady very helpful. Food tasted really good. Steaks are very flavorful!! But Sides are pretty small. We split a huge steak with my kids. Second time we got a terrible server, rude. Also charged over 11 dls for splitting plates!!! In glad we stopped once because that was our last time there with that type of service.

Every time we drive thru Amarillo we just have to stop. This place is a gem! The absolute most tender cuts of steak. I don't know how but the their steak is soooooo tender! The bread yeast rolls are so delicious and sweet. It's almost like a dessert that you just can't stop eating. They actually had two guys singing and playing guitar and violin at the tables. I love this place! I highly recommend that you stop in and check this place out. You just might get to witness someone doing the 72oz steak challenge that is free if you eat it all!

Always fun place to stop. Food was good, NY strip, baked potato, fried mushrooms. Our server was friendly and efficient. You go to the Big Texan as much for the nostalgia as the food. Plus, it's fun to watch the tourist!

If wondering if you should go eat here on a road trip, the answer is GO. Everything is worth it. Fried mushrooms are a must. Mashed potatoes also a must, and obviously get a steak. You can't go wrong with their steak- ever.

Absolutely horrible place. Our steak arrived raw and chewy. Horrible horrible !!! Food is tasteless. Service was terrible. It took us 2 hours to get seated, and 2 hours to get our food. Horrible food , place, service !!!!!

A great stop and tourist must do. I enjoyed the food my steak was excellent and our group had a blast.

Texas 2024, Tony & I stopped In Amarilla on Route 66 at Big Texas 72 Steak House The place is huge!!! I had a 9oz Ribeye with salad and baked sweet potato and Tony ordered Ribs & Brisket with Mac n cheese with cowboy beans and rolls. He had a cowboy 27oz beer and I had unsweetened tea With lime Food was great We enjoyed looking around the building and bought a few items Highly recommend #bucketlisttriplisatony2024

I loved this place. It is an institution! It runs like Clock work. Every single person that works there was so friendly and seemed to Be enjoying themselves. I was a tourist and didn't know what to expect. It was a cultural American experience. Even more surprising was the food. We had steak, baked potatoes, biscuits and the greatest and largest piece of carrot cake I have ever had. It was simple food But they have got it down. I was stuffed But happy. So happy we went again after vacation on the drive home. It is a must see. PS I am a foodie snob and I loved it!

Stopped in here before an early morning flight from Amarillo the next day. So glad we did - this place is large and is more than just a restaurant. Before or after eating, you can walk around the very large gift shop (and check out the large rattlesnack in the back!), play the Target game, have a beer in the bar area and purchase fudge/desserts from the sweets counter. The decor in the actual restaurant is very on-theme including the waitstaff's uniforms. The big draw is the 72oz steak challenge and we were lucky enough to witness an attempt at it (spoiler alert: the person quit with 15 minutes left and a very full plate). The rolls were SO delicious but the food itself was just okay. Not the best we've had but certainly good. The in-house beers were unique and the service was top notch. We would definitely recommend any visitors to check this place out for the ambiance alone!

This is our third visit. Today, it just wasn't as good as I remembered. I had to send my steak back because it was too rare and very tough. Note: my "fixed" potato on the same plate. They cooked a new steak, but my original potato was missing. I had it fixed perfectly. They did gave me a new potato.

As a guy from NJ & VT. Well the food here is huge good serving! Service is on-point as well! I like the old cowboy style table seating. Large tables for group family gatherings. High chair available. Accepts cash & credit/debit cards. Ample parking space. Restroom is kinda smelly but is clean. Aesthetics of interior and exterior matches with there theme. See images for further reference.

Everything in TX is bigger :) This is a really cool spot. The restaurant looks awesome with all the tradicional Texan, and now also Christmas decorations. Being seated on the wrap around balcony was perfect as we had clear view of the entire restaurant. Meat and BBQ lovers would love this place for sure. There are plenty of steak options and sides to choose from on the menu. Same goes for drinks. We tried chicken fried chicken plate and charbroiled chicken sandwich. The chicken was too dry and had too much hard breading. Sides on the other hand were very testy and well seasoned. Probably we should have gone with the steaks instead. Oh well, hopefully we will order it next time.

OMG-you can't believe this place! It's a bustling, giant restaurant with all the Staff dressed up in Western Attire. The table cloth looks like it's a relative of Freckles lol! We were seated in a back booth with her under the table. Christian is our waiter extraordinaire! He has so many tables to take care of at once but is super attentive. Dave had the Rattlesnake IPA, very herbal and fragrant. We ordered the 36 ounce sirloin for two which came with 4 sides. They also start you off with warm honey sweet rolls. The sirloin was very large and cooked perfectly to medium. Dave's baked potato and sides were delicious. I didn't care for the potato salad because it was sweet tasting. His Caesar Salad was very good. There are musicians walking around playing at each table. Fun, fun and a wonderful and memorable evening. The journey is the destination! I should add that if you eat the 72 oz. Steak dinner within an hour you get it for free!

Pretty decent food for a place that is an obvious tourist trap. Definitely worth stopping for the experience at least one time if you're in Amarillo. We got to watch someone attempt the 72 oz steak challenge which was super cool. We got serenaded with some Marshall Tucker and the kids were served meals in cowboy hats. They definitely nailed the Texas saloon-style ambiance.
