We booked The Bird in Hand for a Sunday roast, they were brilliant at accommodating our large group fairly last minute. The food was excellent, really tasty meat and crispy potatoes. The service was fantastic and the team went above and beyond to ensure we had a good time. I cannot recommend this pub enough, it has a lovely atmosphere. A real hidden gem just outside of Bristol.

Fantastic roast dinner. We had the beef and were not disappointed. The meat was cooked perfectly (pink but just melted when you ate it) and the veg was wonderful. Good herby carrots without overpowering the sweet roasted root. I don't like parsnips but the purée was my favourite part. Roasters weren't particularly crispy but they were fluffy and did have good roasted flavour. Would go again. Very handy if you have an afternoon flight.

What an immense experience. Food was perfect, service was perfect. Try it, you'll love it.

Really awful vibe. Few of us (5 people) having a great time, chatting, lqugjing, buying pints and intending to keep spending money when we're told to be quiet and stop swearing. Understandable on a family pub when it's packed but the only other table was filled with the landlords friends who were screaming and swearing themselves. Would not recommend to anyone who wants a good time, not a safe space to just hang out with your friends on a Saturday night.

Love the food and vibe this slightly trendy country pub has to offer. And the service was brilliant. So glad we came across it and would go back in a heartbeat if I was in the area. Great country pub, great dinner. Thanks to the team and chef for making it such a fun and delicious!

Friendly and helpful staff, food was decent though fairly expensive (£16-19 for a main). The bobotie was hearty and comforting and I'd definitely get it again, but the person I was with said the fish cakes weren't great, apparently a bit bland and a bit light on the fish.

Serves Guinness again. Small but good selection of craft beers and lager. Food is not your standard pub grub, good quality, but always check the monthly menu to see if their is something you like. Great scoth eggs

In brief: Good, pleasant staff. Good gin selection. Typical, slightly old pub furnishings and decor. Good sounding food ruined by over-use of deep fat fryer. Disappointing. Was really looking forward to trying this pub with a 'good food' reputation on many sites but it was the food that let the visit down. In depth: The premises are fairly standard with a long bar and a mix of seating areas including one outside. No car park though but, space permitting, on street parking available. Greeted by very pleasant, helpful member of staff. Choice of set or à la carte menu at lunch time. Both menus sounded very promising. Sadly, nearly all the starters and mains chosen by four of us had an element from the deep fat fryer or frying pan. For instance, lamb (a normally fatty meat) was covered in breadcrumbs and deep fried! Portion size was good. Presentation of food was an attempt to make poor food look better than it tasted. It was summer and the flies were about as well and, whilst we were in start of a more rural area, I cannot understand why the issue is not addressed. So, sadly, despite good reviews on other sites we will not be making any repeat visits. I said at the beginning, disappointing. I8

Yelp
Recently renovated, it's maybe the best place to eat and drink between Bristol and the airport. Certainly so in Long Ashton. Very good food, friendly service, great pint of Butcombe. It's also very handy for the chinese takeaway next door so while you are waiting you can sneak in here for a swifty.

Yelp
Fabulous pub. Beautifully refurbished. Nicely renovated with restaurant standard food and excellent service. We have lived in and around Bristol for over 30 years and visited most of the pubs and restaurants. This is now one of our top 5. Highly recommended.
