The Bird in Hand

11 of us went for a birthday meal here & we were glad we did, everybody were sat comfortably in the main dining area & the staff made us feel relaxed throughout, the decor which has recently had a major refurbishment & is very classy with a cosy charm, the food stole the show though, the menu was intresting & had so much choice i couldn't choose but I went for the smoked pork & chorizo which was a perfect blend of tender pork, big pieces of smoky chorizo & nicely roasted root veg, all our varied choices hit the spot & the big portions at reasonable prices kept smiles on faces. While we were there a band came on & made everything complete they were very good, I'm not sure if this is a regular thing but if it is its well worth a visit just for them!

We had a family Christmas meal here on 7th December. Great experience, from the booking through pre ordering and on the day. The staff are all lovely. There was a very young team of waiting staff on the Sunday and they were great, welcoming, friendly, professional - well done girls! The food was really excellent as well, we particularly noticed the roast potatoes as so few pubs seem to be able to get them right. The Bird does! Thank you for making our family festive meal such a great occasion.

We ate quite early on Saturday evening. The Bird was pretty busy and there was a good atmosphere. Our meals were delicious and piping hot. I chose the steak and Guinness pie, which was absolutely delicious. Service was efficient and friendly. We had a really good evening.

The potential is massive, but it unfortunately doesn't live up to it. This is mainly due to the lighting and could be easily fixed. It is very bright, and that in combination of the new furniture makes it feel like you are in an airport wetherspoons. Dim the lighting and it significantly improves. It's a shame it's not as good as it could be. Lovely building and location.

Sunday lunch.. absolutely terrible the beef was so tough could not eat .. pork was fatty . Potatoes burnt and could not cut . Veg was cold .. sorry but I would not recommend. Never complain but really felt we had to and was first offered coffees .. I was happy to pay for what we had eaten but was not gonna pay for the whole meal the manager said to pay for half the bill I really did not wanna do that but we did and walked away feeling extremely disappointed won't go there again ... and im not convinced we were the only ones who said the food was not edible cause the meat was so tough 3 of us left the meat ... never again sorry

Excellent atmosphere, with day menus. I must say very happy for the quality of the food... Patents from Portugal... Very difficult to convince. Where extremely pleased. Thank you
