Where to Stay, Eat, and Drink in Vienna

"A flamboyant cocktail bar in the eighth district that signals a leap forward for Vienna's drinking scene, offering inventive drinks and theatrical presentation. One named cocktail, the Zehnzehn, is described specifically as 'a cocktail of gin, vermouth, champagne, and gentian.' The writer suggests that a night at venues like this can rival the most artisanal speakeasies elsewhere." - Travel + Leisure Editors

Cool ambience. Friendly service, always checking if we need anything. Music not my type. Quite a hidden location. Need to pass the eatery and go down the stairs. If you‘re hungry, you need to eat somewhere first (or at the eatery, for vegetarians) before going to the Birdyard, bacause they only have drinks.

Tucked away in Austria, The Birdyard is a sanctuary of refined ambiance and impeccable service. The decor exudes warmth, perfectly matched by the sophistication of the bar. Attentive servers add a personal touch, ensuring every moment is delightful. Whether you're savoring a craft cocktail or enjoying the serene atmosphere, The Birdyard is a must-visit for those seeking both style and substance in their dining experience.

This place is absurdly beautiful and all details are well taken care of. Service is fantastic, such that a different waiter knew exactly what drink each of us ordered. Cocktails presentation is pretty austere but the flavours were delicious.

You enter through the Eatery, their restaurant, and once you walk downstairs you get into the actual bird yard. You’ll notice, because of the giant bird paintings covering all the walls. It’s getting crowded quickly, and weirdly enough, emptying out quickly again. Just wait a bit and you’ll get a seat. The staff is very helpful, sometimes you get a free delicious shot to start you off, and the cocktails are anything but your standard fare. Overall it’s a nice idea, and the drink concoctions are tasty most of the time, unfortunately nothing really stands out. No crazy creative mixtures, not relaxed neither exciting atmosphere... it’s missing that special something, despite doing nothing wrong.

Warm atmosphere, nice people, good wine. Don't expect to eat here :D I was really hungry after a working day and it happened to me to find The BirdYard by case. The staff was astonished I needed two courses from the menu :D . I you're hungry better go and grab a kebab and then come here to enjoy the softest experience ever :D

3 Stars for the restaurant, 5 stars for the bar. The restaurant is a lot less cosy than it might look from the pictures. It's busy, loud, rather spartanic and the food - while good - is overpriced for what it is. The bar however is really nice with an upscale feel without being too expensive. They have a nice selection of known and special cocktails.

Got here for some drinks - very nice atmosphere and ambient. Best part are the cocktails. This in the picture is the “Plata o Plomo” drink

Yelp
This is a review of the totally cool keller cocktail bar called Birdyard and not a review of their same-named upstairs restaurant. Vienna has some of the coolest, most atmospheric, and unique cocktail bars I have ever seen anywhere ... on any continent. Birdyard in the Josefstadt is def in the upper tier of these establishments. The first think you notice when you descend the stairs into the candle lit keller are the huge murals all around the bar by the well-known Romanian artist - Saddo. I heard he actually did all these wall paintings in less than a month. Of course the colorful paintings wouldn't be as meaningful if the cocktails weren't excellent as well. Well they are great. The Peanut Butter & Jelly cocktail I ordered is the cocktail of the year in my book. This concoction of peanut butter, seven year old Trinidadian rum, and cranberry juice among other ingredients is super flavorful. It's literally like drinking a peanut butter & jelly sandwich...and if you like PB&J as I do, you'll love this expertly crafted drink. And its garnish consisted of a mini-Chocolate bar. While my drink was being made, I received a complimentary shot from one of the bartenders of Hibiscus and vodka which was really a nice touch. A glass of bar nuts was another complimentary offering I enjoyed. I don't think you can go wrong at Birdyard. And even if you could, a couple of their cocktails served by the friendly bartenders underneath the Saddo murals would totally make everything right again! p.s. The bathroom set-up at Birdyard is also unique and cool. I can't quite describe it. Just be sure to visit the facilities when you are there!
