Great venue with a great view, quite a large menu which can be over whelming if you are unsure… although always good to have lots of options. Inside dining room can quite busy almost rat race like, with all plates going to out door area traveling past the bar and other tables. Food prices on par with most restaurants these days so no complaints there….

Had the $38 chicken special and mixed grill for $35. Chicken was dry and was covered in a cheap sauce. Horrible. Mixed grill was also pretty bad (dry as hell, burnt chemical taste). If I stayed home, turned on the bbq, stood back 5 metres, threw two cheap-steaks from Coles on the hot plate, waited 15 minutes… that would have tasted better. Service and atmosphere were acceptable. Other customers seemed really nice.

First time visiting this well advertised hotel. It was a warm summers Saturday evening and the place was quite busy. Very nice views sitting outside on the deck overlooking the river. The menu is very large which as an ex chef is always a little worrying. I ordered the $40 Porterhouse steak medium rare and my wife a hamburger. Unfortunately my steak come out well done as it my wife’s pretty ordinary looking burger. The meat looked like it was good quality so quite a shame it was so overcooked. The chips were also very overcooked. Also as someone with coeliac disease I find it quite perplexing that some hotels still despite having multiple gluten options on their menu don’t offer a single gluten free beer in their hotel. Yes we would go back for a drink but probably then head somewhere else for dinner in future.

It was a great night out with friends in the outside covered area for dinner. Seafood and steak in various quantities. Very noisy when full of people, a very popular place for dinner even with a big storm rolling in. Perfect for big gatherings like Xmas or birthday parties. The food was very good in both quality and quantity, the service was quick and polite. Recommended top 5 spot in Port Adelaide for a good meal.

Unfortunately came here today to have late lunch with the family. The lamb fry and bacon was actually the worst thing we tasted in a long time. One of the steaks was overcooked and the service was bad and not pleasant at all. Not asking how anything was and cold. It was a monday so not busy at all you cant blame the business of the resturant on this which I understand. Food was very poor. Very disappointing.

Loved this pub. Friendly barman. Best sweet potato chips you'll ever have in Adelaide. Gorgeous location. Pub itself was very neat, clean and tidy. Friendly staff. Ladies toilet was nice and clean. Music a bit too loud in the smokers area and would be nice to have a different genre of music.. not sad love songs on mainstream radio. Will be returning again soon!

Went for a walk around the area to see the old steam tug boat "Fearless". While walking by we decided to stop in to the tavern for a quick drink. The bar staff were super friendly and kind. We had a couple of drinks and people watched for a while. The place was getting pretty busy, but despite the number of customers, nothing seemed to be too much bother for the wait staff or bar staff who took everything in their stride. Our dinner was delicious, it was simple fish and chips with salad, but it was fresh and tasty and reasonably priced. Our plates were cleared quickly and we decided to stay for dessert. Had the cheesecake, which was a generous portion and while unusual in flavour (Apricot and chocolate and... Something else? On a chocolate biscuit base) It was yummy and we finished it all! Thank you for a very enjoyable, impromptu evening.

Yelp
A part of me feels that this place has really jumped the gun with regards to the gentification of Port Adelaide. When I first discovered it while perfusing the internet I though that it's location on the inside bend of the Port River was actually a really good location - it seems that the owners thought that as well because it is actually a fairly classy pub. Mind you, you are looking across the river to the industrial part of Port Adelaide so the view actually isn't all that fantastic. Also, it is a bit further back from the river than I expected it to be, which means you have a pretty good view of some undeveloped land and a bunch of fishermen. Oh, a couple of the staff were pretty rude as well, and getting to this place, especially when you don't have a car, it a bit of nightmare. Still I do give it points for its location.

Yelp
I think the Birkenhead Tavern is my favourite place for a pub meal. The of the port was great. I had fish and chips with a beer. It was delicious the fish was cooked perfectly and the plate wasn't overloaded with too many chips. The tartare sauce was just right adding to the grilled fish. Next time I think I'll try the burger!

Yelp
Nice meals and beautiful outdoor dining area on their deck. Staff are always friendly and very helpful. I would highly recommend being seated outside on the deck, which is nice both in summer and winter (heaters for winter and fans in summer). This area also includes flat screen tv's and can be a bit loud on football nights. Delicious meals and they also service breakfast (I recommend their breakfast pizza!). I have tried their steak, schnitzel, slow cooked beef cheek and crumbed pork cutlet and would recommend all of the above. If you fancy some dessert after dinner, then look no further than their sticky date pudding. I'm not a fan of sticky date pudding, but once I tried this dessert at the Birkenhead Tavern that all changed! The carpark is a bit of a shocker and parts of it unsealed. The tavern is situated by itself on the waterfront. Not a bad location and it's quite pretty at night... The hotel provide poker machines also, for those inclined.

Yelp
Great location on the Port for meals or drinks. Decent range of food options, reasonably priced. Salad bar is pretty average though. Service generally good and they have good number of staff on hand on busy days.

Yelp
A reliable pub meal. Nice to get a seat out on the deck if it is a warm evening. I take my Dad here because he loves the lambs fry.

Yelp
A great place to meet friends for drinks. The venue has a welcoming and relaxing ambience. The staff are very friendly. Appetisers are delicious however the main meals unfortunately are just borderline average. A group of us went for dinner last week and each ordered different meals, which we rated between 2-3 out of 5. We will definitely return for only drinks and nibbles though :)

Yelp
The staff are ambivalent towards patrons, telling you to sit 'over there' with a wave of the finger and then telling you to move later on because the table was booked! Bar service is average. Ordered meals from the "specials" menu and these were both so bad we could not eat it. Pasta was watery, the salmon overly smoky and way too much salt added making it worse than a frozen supermarket offering. I ordered King George Whiting, but got served the flat head. Ok, both nice fish and same price so I did not make a fuss. Really I should have. The cajun rub was so salty I could not eat it, the cajun spices were over powering with no flavour left in the fish. The poor fish was so over cooked it was dry and rubbery. Greek salad with cajun fish is odd, but the olives and the feta only added to the excessive saltiness in the finished dish. The crushed potatoes were nice! The kitchen staff need to taste the food and lighten up on the added salt. Never ever again will we venture there.

Yelp
Absolutely brillant pub. Went for lunch today, got Birk Snitzel. Big, tasty and brillant. Served with fries. The buffet bar had a mixture of hot and cold and breads. My husband had the Seafood pie. By far one of the biggest and most tasty meals. We had Turkish Delight Cheesecake and Chocolate Brownies for dessert. Total cost $44.00. Although the food was outstanding, the best part of this hotel is the atmosphere. The staff are really friendly and appear to get along really well. They are personable with each other as well as the staff. There were alot of elderly people in there for lunch and noticed to things that would bring in a crowd - as list of $10.50 lunchs as well as another off of 20 per cent off for seniors all days. Its well done up with a nice outdoor eating area as well as indoor. Can't fault this place for atmosphere, personality, taste, variation of food and cost. Go there, you won't be disappointed.
