What a delicious treat for a brunch spot in Redhook, Brooklyn. My kids and I were coming into Brooklyn searching for a brunch spot, coming out of the battery tunnel and this wonderful restaurant popped out on my Google search. Thankfully it did because it was a treasure to have been found in such an industrial area. The restaurant itself is so historic and brings the 1920s vibe with old photos, bar counter and table setting. The beautiful outdoor space is a hidden gem in itself, a must see in the spring and summer months. Their quiche- we had the spinach mushroom and spinach artichoke were phenomenal. We also had the square croissants- spinach artichoke and ratatouille and goat cheese. I am def making this my summer hang out with the kids to enjoy the hidden gem in Redhook, Bk.

Google
A Cozy Brooklyn coffee shop that transports you back to simpler times. Staff, food, and coffee are great. An added bonus is the hidden garden in the back. A must visit in the area.

Stopped in here to have a quick bite before continuing my day in Red Hook. I had the Cheddar, Chive Scone, which was good. (Didn't really seem like a Scone or a Biscuit, more like a combo, either way the taste was good). The guys working their were nice. I liked the space. It had family portraits on the walls and some seating. I ate my Scone out in the backyard, which is not big but it is very pleasant. The prices are good. The atmosphere is laid back and friendly.

Google
Great Red Hook coffee spot, wide food and sandwich selection. The waffle is surprisingly delicious even without syrup. The baristas are very nice and the coffee is decent! Plenty of spots indoors and outdoors as well as an abundance of outlets.

As a girl from a small town in Ontario, Canada, I feel we need more small cafés like this one. Food 10/10, Coffee 10/10, Atmosphere 10/10, staff 10/10. I definitely recommend this coffee shop for anyone visiting Red Hook area in Brooklyn!

Google
Darling Neighborhood Coffee Shop with a little vintage/art deco vibe. A seemingly neighborhood fixture with a selection of sandwiches, pastries and quiche. They are serving Stone Street Coffee.

Google
I love this spot in Red Hook as it has a cute little back garden filled with greenery. The coffee and baked goods are pretty good too.

Yelp
Nice people, delicious latte and comfortable seating. They tolerated my request for a paper cup. Thank you!

Yelp
Super cute cafe with some delicious drinks. The service overall was super friendly, and there were quite a few tables inside and out - people chatting over coffee, reading, working on laptops.. overall, it seemed like an established neighborhood spot. Would return next time I'd like my caffeine fix in the area!

Yelp
What an amazing hidden gem in Red Hook! Fantastic all around--they embody a full 5 stars. I was on the hunt for a solid breakfast spot to help cater a film set I was coordinating while also supporting a local business and could not have been happier to have landed here. Jonell is the absolute best and helped me put together my order. They have 96oz coffee carafes (~$30) filled to the brim with their hot drip coffee. Jonell was so kind and provided a selection of milks, sugar/sweeteners, and stirrers for a minimal additional fee. The coffee was phenomenal! Such amazing depth of flavor and great value. There were no leftovers there!! They also have a selection of yummy pastries (including some that are Gluten Free!), of which I tried many. My favorites were the cheese danishes and gluten free lemon loaf--so delicious and not too sweet. Service was consistently kind, professional, and welcoming. The ambience is lovely, chill, and quiet. It's one of those places that you immediately feel good vibes when you walk through the door. If you're in the Red Hook area, I highly recommend you check this spot out! I'll be back 100%.

Yelp
We were staying around the corner so the location was ideal. It is super clean. Very modern cool decor. Delicious coffee friendly service The croissants are phenomenal.

Yelp
I took a walk here to grab some coffee after running a few errands in the area & a quick Google search. This place is really a hidden gem because I've frequented this area numerous times and can actually say that I've never noticed it. I visited on a weekday during the morning & it was fairly empty. There were a few people working on their laptops or conversing with one another. For the most part, it was fairly quiet. I ordered an iced coffee & a bacon & egg quiche. I intended to just get a coffee & leave but I couldn't leave without trying the quiche because it looked entirely too good to pass on & I have to say that it was delicious! It was my first time having quiche & I was definitely not disappointed.

Yelp
Love the vibe and atmosphere of this cafe. Also - the baristas play the best music. Incredibly chic and great selection of baked goods and quiches!

Yelp
I wonder how many collective hours of my life I've spent here? I love Red Hook deeply, and some of my favorite days living in New York have started here. Two different types of roasts of espresso (light or dark), plenty of seating, and usually a copy or two of the Times to share with neighbors. They also have a bunch of pastries and sandwiches, and really good freshly squeezed orange juice.
google avatar

Yelp
Great espresso coffees near the red hook ferry! Choice of medium or dark roast. Good selection of pastries and ready made sandwiches, and you can sit indoors or in the back courtyard. Single stall ie gender neutral restroom.
google avatar

Andrea R.

Yelp
Cute spot with delicious coffee. Iced coffees usually taste watered down, but not here. The iced latte I ordered was strong and flavorful. The service was also great; I asked for recommendations in the neighborhood, and they provided an entire book of great local spots. Will be returning!

Yelp
I did a quick search for cafes in red hook because I don't trek there often (note: at all)) I was going to red hook lobster pound and wanted a place afterward to wait out the rain and to do some work. Luckily, black flamingo is only 1 minute walk away across the street Decor wise, I wouldn't have been surprised if it was a former speakeasy bar. It looks from the outside and the photos inside remind me of 1910s-1920s. But unlike those times, this place has wifi available inside and in their garden (I didn't go because #rain) but it looked cool through the window Menu wise, they have all the expected options for coffee (espresso, latte, etc.). But I appreciated that on their board they listed the tea options they had which was more than 4. I took a London fog because it is my go to. It was decent and they also had different types of sweeteners for me to use. They had some pastries on display including sandwiches from court street grocers and quiches. But I was pleased by the fact that since they had some pastries left over, they asked if we wanted any to take home for free (since it was close to closing at 4pm). I gladly took a croissant home. The cafe is right in front of the B61 bus stop to downtown Brooklyn so if you need the bus and is taking a while, this could be a place to wait

Yelp
Red hook has a few nice spots to hit if you're ever on Van Brunt and the Black Flamingo falls into that category. Cute little cafe, pretty small but enough tables for you to drink a brew, work or just relax. We sat in the adorable little patio in the back. Drinks: iced almond milk latte was okay - wife said nothing amazing but good. Almond milk cortado was on point. I got it with the medium roast. Like how they offer the selection of medium or dark. Overall drink was smooth and hit the spot. Food: ordered the cheddar chive jalapeño scone/ biscuit and it was fantastic. More of a biscuit than a scone but despite me not knowing how to name it, I can say it was yummy. Loved the heat from the jalapeño and the creaminess from the cheddar. Overall I liked this place and would go back. The staff was very friendly and the patio is worth hanging out in.

Yelp
I really enjoyed coming to this nice little place. The coffee is smooth and enjoyable and the service is speedy and attentive. If the weather is nice, try sitting out on the patio. There you will enjoy warm morning sun, fresh air and chipping birds. The Black Flamingo is the perfect place to start your morning in Red Hook.

Yelp
Great coffee but the whole mask thing is a little ridiculous. Their lord of the virus said they don't work and that he was wrong. Makes them look ridiculous.
google avatar

Yelp
The vanilla oat milk latte was delicious and we had the bacon and cheese quiche and the ham and cheese croissant they were quite tasty but the waffle it definitely a must!
google avatar

Sara E.

Yelp
Great service, very good coffee, great little spot to sit for coffee (but I was in a rush - had it to go).

G R.

Yelp
I love this place. They have the best employees and the coffee is the best in the neighborhood. It can get quite crowded especially when a cruise ship comes in, but otherwise it's a charming place to visit.
google avatar

Kisha Y.

Yelp
We ducked in here to warm up and to grab a caffeine boost on our visit to Red Hook. Mocha latte was delicious. As was the ham and cheese quiche.

Abdallah G.

Yelp
If you want some high quality coffee, tea, and light breakfast while listening to great music softly in the background and served by super servers...this is it.

Mabel H.

Yelp
Cute cafe spot in Red Hook, I got the matcha which was ok but did hear the group in front of me say the coffee is great. Nice that they also have an outdoor patio in the back!
google avatar

Ali M.

Yelp
Easily one of the cutest coffee shops in NYC, it's like a coffee shop you'd find in a movie set, or TV sitcom, stylish, excellent pastries and small bites, super stylish crowd too. I'm 35 minutes away in Manhattan, but we don't have any shops as cute as this one in my neighborhood.
google avatar

Beach R.

Yelp
Pretty good drip. But man there's something in the water with the staff here. High turnover based on 3 visits in the past couple of months, but also just the staff seems grumpy and confused and resentful... of, who knows? Covid is rough on all, and a mask hides a smile, so maybe we (I) shouldn't be as critical of customer service as I was in the younger days. ..

Yelp
Such a cute coffee shop with delicious pastries and grab and go sandwiches. We got the ham and brie and it was sooooo good. I'm craving it. Good proportions on cheese and ham. They also have a nice outdoor patio where pups are allowed, and a comfy bench along the wall inside with cafe tables. The baristas were also very friendly and welcoming!

Yelp
Wow what a great place stumble into . I'm very happy hand pulled expresso the staff was lovely I'll be back

Yelp
Gorgeous cafe in the heart of Redhook. Their oat milk lattes are dreamy, and the black flamingo takes serious pride in their craft. You can choose your preferred roast and the coffee quality is overall outstanding. the atmosphere is very cozy and laid back. There are a lot of small tables for getting work done; a very cool vibe. Also a nice selection of yummy baked goods and small sandwiches. Excellent coffee option if you're in the area. they also recently added matcha to their menu if you fancy that! --As of 4/24/20, they are open for take out from 8 am-1 pm daily!

Yelp
An absolute gem! Excellent coffee, delicious baked goods and a really darling garden (with heat lamps!) NY Times to share as well.
google avatar

Ksenia S.

Yelp
My favorite coffee shop in Red Hook. Not very usual coffee shop, besides regular cookies and croissants you can also have some gazpacho here and delicious pies baked in-house daily. The atmosphere is very calm and good for work. And I love the garden.
google avatar

Samantha L.

Yelp
Had breakfast in the back yard. Tables are six feet and the patrons weren't wearing mask but the food is good as well as the chai latte iced.
google avatar

Jools N.

Yelp
Darkly charming coffee bar with a little green oasis out back... my cold espresso drink was delicious and the service was friendly. I'd come again, by bike, and I live in Harlem :)
google avatar

Elizabeth M.

Yelp
Cute interior, and it's great that they have gluten-free scones, but that's where my positive experiences ended. As others have noted, the service is indifferent, and the espresso drinks are terrible. Subtracting an additional star for the $8 card minimum.
google avatar

Meri K.

Yelp
Great iced coffee!!! Friendly, brand new place up the block! Very nice work on the interior! Little snacks (sandwiches, scones) available. Nice place to bring your laptop and get done work done. I hear they are opening up the backyard garden in July for a dose of some great morning sunshine with your coffee! I hear they are also adding beer & wine soon too! Great addition to the hood! Best of luck, guys!
google avatar

Samantha N.

Yelp
Very cute and cozy shop, I came in and instantly felt the warm energy from this cute little cafe. I ordered a Jasmine tea with a salami & cheese sandwich, and it is worth it. You can dine in which is perfect, and you get a cute antique tea pot that comes with your tea order as well. Lovely little shop, friendly employees , with the music playing at a comfortable sound level!
google avatar

Claire S.

Yelp
An imperfect coffee shop (orig. I had 3 stars) but a cool place to spend some time, get decent coffee and ok food. I'd give them more business if they had a phone number #covidtimes.

Yelp
I was in Red Hook for work and needed a place with wifi and caffeine, I yelped local coffee shops with wifi near me (I'm not very familiar with Red Hook) and this came up like 0.3 miles away from where I was so I decided to give it a try and I'm happy I did! After finding a parking spot I headed inside to get some work done. It's a very small narrow space inside, very cozy, however if the weather is nice, which it was, there's an awesome patio out back that also has wifi, that's where I sat. I ordered a large iced latte which I believe was $5 and a yogurt parfait because they have a credit card minimum of $8 and I didn't have cash on me. Anyway, it was all delicious and the barista was super chill. I would definitely go back should I find myself in the neighborhood again.
google avatar

Julie L.

Yelp
Love this place! Staff was great and nice. Came here to work and get out of the home for some different scenery. Wifi here is good and the dark roast coffee is the best. I should have gotten some beans to go. There is also garden seating outside and enough outlets to go around for people and their laptops. Will come back for sure when I'm back in the area.
google avatar

Yelp
I have discovered a new favourite way to begin my day. Cool vibe. It's awesome!! People that work here are super nice. Prime spot, great vibe, great service and EXCELLENT drinks!

Yelp
nice coffee place if you're in the area! Friendly and cute decor. Friends were in town and we decided to check out the Hometown BBQ/Waterfront area. Really nice stroll down!

Yelp
Service is lacking and the coffee drip tastes weak. The people here are slow yet condescending.

Yelp
I finally had a chance to stop by The Black Flamingo yesterday and let me tell you, I have found my new favorite coffee shop in Red Hook. The coffee was on point and the service was phenomenal, thanks to Irena ( sorry in advance for any misspelling). They offer a variety of sandwiches and pastries. I was able to get out have a descent cup of coffee and get some work done in a quiet and comfortable space. As a resident of Red Hook, we don't have a variety of places to go especially during the winter months. But now I know where to go when I want to get out of my house but not necessarily leave the Red Hook area. Thanks again, you will be seeing me again.

Yelp
Gnarly interior with a cute garden in the back to match. Came in here on a bit of a hike with my little brother who's never been in the city before. Very gratifying to be able to find this gem in Red Hook on his weekend here. Based on some of the portraits and hearing the staff speak, there's some little pieces of Slavic vibe going on in here, too, which is dope. As with all my reviews, I'm super happy to announce that The Black Flamingo has hidden, but ever-useful plugs on the underside of the glossy, black benches. It seems that it's about two plugs per bench (4 total). Coffee is solid, competitive prices. Happy to be here on a beautiful June Sunday.

Yelp
I visited this cafe for the first time yesterday and will definitely return. I ordered a double decaffeinated espresso and a warmed-up chocolate croissant. The espresso was one of the best I ever tasted and the croissant was delicious and heated up just as I had requested, which was a pleasant surprise: it is often presented either too cold or else too hot to eat right away with the coffee. The ambience was very pleasant, with songs like Van Morrison's Brown Eyed Girl playing at a mellow volume, which I really appreciate, because so many cafes and restaurants play music crazy loud. The bathroom was clean and well-stocked. The staff were very friendly. All in all, this was one of the most enjoyable cafe experiences I've ever had.
google avatar

Bill H.

Yelp
Fantastic espresso! During my recent visit, I had a macchiato and an espresso. Macchiato was prepared wonderfully by the barista - perfect amount and quality of foam. The dark roast is an exquisite and sophisticated taste, very enjoyable. Very impressed with the barista's attention to detail in drink preparations. Vibe in the shop was divine on a Friday afternoon. Tasteful chill music at a mellow level - made for perfect conversation atmosphere. Excellent coffee shop in the Hook!!
google avatar

Yelp
This place is great! If you ever find yourself in Red Hook, make sure to check it out! The coffee and snacks are great and the servers are fast and friendly. The newly renovated garden is beautiful and the cafe itself has got an awesome dark Art Deco vibe.
google avatar

Fabio T.

Yelp
Good coffee, cool atmosphere, but cranky service at the bar! And barista should always ask if coffee is to stay or to go, so no paper cups are wasted.
google avatar

JJ J.

Yelp
Suuuper chill, great art deco vibe, solid coffee, nice backyard, always available tables, and in Red Hook. Who could ask for anything more?
google avatar

Rose M.

Yelp
We were lost in Brooklyn and happened upon this cute café on Van Brunt. We were told it was their Grand Opening and what an entrance they made! We adored the decor and even more importantly fell in love with the cappuccinos and lattes. Fabricio and Dimi(spelling) are the owners who greeted us warmly and served us promptly. What made me a fan was that I didn't have to add sugar to my vanilla latte because Fabricio made it to perfection. Our Almond croissants were divine but there are a few more options to choose from in the glass case. Once they have their liquor license, you'll be able to kick back there for happy hour. What a yummy welcome to the Red Hook neighborhood. We didn't care about being lost anymore, but we'll find our way back to The Black Flamingo!
google avatar

Nick K.

Yelp
Beautifully decorated little Art Deco style cafe reminiscent of a lazy afternoon in Paris. Ham and cheese croissant was delicious and the iced coffee was perfect. Excellent find. Will be coming back a lot.
google avatar

Michael S.

Yelp
The place is cute, coffee is good and sandwiches are delicious. The service, though, on Sunday, December 30th, was surprisingly rude. I don't mind indifference, but the lady who served us was actively unfriendly. No hello, no good-bye, no thank you. She seemed very unhappy to be there.
google avatar

Colin A.

Yelp
Went here on Sunday in the late afternoon - the coffee was superb and the service was great. I had a croissant with goat cheese and fig jam which was delicious. I stayed a while and used the wifi, later having some herb infused lemonade and some yummy cookies. The place itself has impeccable decor, mainly Art Deco with other flourishes, like lots of old style black and white portrait photos belonging to the Russian ancestors of one of the owners. Anyhow can't wait for my next visit. My only complaint is that i didn't actually see a black flamingo anywhere, maybe it was in the backyard :)

Mars W.

Yelp
Good coffee, nice baristas, atmospheric place with an interesting history expressed in photos on the walls and a tiny home style cozy garden. Added unforgettable memories to the beautiful day we had in Red Hook.
