I recently visited the Black Sand Beach 🏖 near Varkala railway station. The beach is famous for its unique black sand ⬛✨… and honestly, seeing it for the first time felt special. Evening time 🌅 is the best to be here… the sunset glow makes the whole place come alive. 🚗🛵 Parking is a bit of a struggle, especially on weekends when the crowd gets heavy. First impression… yes, good ✅ But then, a little disappointed 😕 The place is not maintained properly. The beach is small, and with too many people, it feels crowded 👫👬👭 Still… the beauty is there 🌊 Bathing is allowed 🚿 and many enjoy playing in the water. For me, just sitting quietly and watching the waves 🌊☀️ was enough. The sunset was the highlight 💛 At night 🌙… the vibe is different. A solo walk 🚶 felt peaceful but also a little risky ⚠️—better to stay alert as thefts can happen. Overall… it was a new and happy experience 😍. Not perfect, but memorable in its own way. The black sand, the sunset, the vibe—it all made the visit worth it. 🌌

An absolutely mesmerizing black sand beach - a true gem of Varkala! The contrast of dark sands against the turquoise waves and towering cliffs in the background is breathtaking. Its wide, flat shore makes it perfect for long walks and beachside relaxation. Kid's absolutely loved running around the beach. Watching surfers ride the waves here adds to the vibrant, unforgettable charm of spot. This beach offers some stunning pictures.

Feel the need to write a review on the surf here after being unsure on the surf forecast before coming. It looked pretty good on surfline but the reality was quite different for September during their off season. The surf here is fine for beginners (out of season) but if you’ve moved on from your foamy days it’s not the best. There is white water which will push any beginner enough to practice popping up for the first time and gain some confidence. The surf is generally blown out past 11am so you need to surf early (starting around 7.30/8am) to get anything cleanish. The monsoon season it seems to make the waves quite rough While you get cleaner waves out back it’s still a bit blown out as the sandbanks aren’t well formed and peaks in different spots a lot. The paddle out is also difficult if you don’t use a rip. There was a rip each day in a similar spot left of the pipe going into the sea. This worked well for getting out back but still a slog. If you’re not used to paddling through the break I’d leave it… Waves were around 4-5ft both days I surfed here so fairly big (at least for me). Did catch some good ones but did a lot of waiting. Hopefully better in peak season, which they tell me starts December / January time outside monsoon. The surf schools however didn’t seem that knowledgeable in the area and equipment needed some repairs or had missing fins at quite a few shops. Hopefully they improve with time

While we visited, the cliff was heavily crowded and couldnt get into the beach through that way. We reached the beach through a small road near to many resorts. Firstly, there is no security in that place and only 1 life guard for a large crowd. It could be made more clean and Tidy. We have to climb down the rock to reach the beach and need to be careful. Beach is great .

It’s quiet, peaceful, and not very crowded. The contrast of the dark sand with the blue sea looks really beautiful. Perfect for just sitting, walking, or enjoying a calm sunset.
