13 Best Things to Do in Melbourne

"Organized and led by actual artists from the ultra edgy Blender Studios collective, this is one of the most organic walking tours we have ever done. The homespun, authentic feel of walking some of the city's most iconic laneways for street art with someone who has an intimate knowledge of—and participation in—the scene is an unrivaled experience. Ending the tour at Blender Studios for an informal gallery tour with wine and nibbles, and interacting with some of the artists in their workspace, was a unique and organic way to round out the day." - Krista Simmons

We did this with our 8yo - highly recommend it, we all had so much fun. The staff are so friendly and helpful. We had Nicki looking after us, she gently helped our son after his canvas ended up mixing to brown (of course he added too much of everything) and saved it to a great piece of kid art. There were no limits and basically no rules, and plenty of time to spend creating.

The crew at Blender Studios are friendly, genuine and knowledgeable. I was visiting Melbourne from Margaret River and by pure luck my hotel was opposite the studio. I saw a flyer on their wall advertising spray paint and stencil workshops. From the first time I went in there to enquire about the classes and every other time I visited I always left with a massive smile on my face. There is a delightful cafe, spaces where workshops take place and resident artists. I enrolled in the freehand spray paint lesson as a 46 year old total beginner. Matt who ran the class gave a lowdown on the history of street art and showed us some of his commissioned works from around Melbourne. We were shown how to create our own designs and techniques on what is needed to use a spray can as an artistic tool. We implemented our new found skills onto boards on easels all while being given more tips and knowledge. If you have even the slightest interest in street art I would absolutely recommend getting along to this place. The crew are so welcoming and pleased to share skills with others.

Great studio! And great new cafe - good coffee ☕️ croissants, and other treats! Kids had school Holiday program there and loved it. Really creative teachers, super friendly - the programs were fantastic. Highly recommend!

We attended the workshop on Friday 11 July with current artists Nicki and Doyle. It’s was brilliant, supportive and great demonstration! The girls, 6 & 11 loved the experience and walked away with some great artwork. They also loved exploring the artists in residence work. Thanks :)

My daughter and I attended a paint lab session with canvas’ and protective gear provided for a messy, engaging and creative experience! It was sooo much fun. The communication was great, the demonstrations were informative, and the guidance throughout was very helpful. We all had creative freedom to splat, spray, paint and create textures which is every kids dream! I had a great time, and loved watching my daughter in her element. Thanks for the great experience!

Yesterday did the freehand workshop. Amazing experience. Matt took us through the steps to create a work of street art and we did (with a little bit of help!!) . If going to do it my main suggestion is come with some idea of what you want to create and unless very talented start with a basic form. We ended up googling cartoon characters for inspiration! Sketch, draft, colour in, outline… voila street art to take home! A must do.😊😊

Rob is intellectually disabled gentleman who is blind in one eye and low vision in the other. He went and participated in a session today with his carer and had the best time. Staff were welcoming. All queries I had before hand they responded to and assured me this was a safe activity for Rob. So thank you. We will come again!
