13 Best Things to Do in Melbourne

"Organized and led by actual artists from the ultra edgy Blender Studios collective, this is one of the most organic walking tours we have ever done. The homespun, authentic feel of walking some of the city's most iconic laneways for street art with someone who has an intimate knowledge of—and participation in—the scene is an unrivaled experience. Ending the tour at Blender Studios for an informal gallery tour with wine and nibbles, and interacting with some of the artists in their workspace, was a unique and organic way to round out the day." - Krista Simmons

I was walking by feeling a little hungry... and the scent of delicious spiced cooking drew me in. Not yet noticing very much the splendid artworks and mural in the foyer, I was greeted by the most smilingly delightful hospitality worker I care to recall! I ordered a chicken sandwich and Yuzu blanc - an original flavoured cold brew coffee that you won't likely experience elsewhere. While said delightful lady prepared the food and drink - bless her! - I met two of the artists and browsed the gallery thoroughly (if swiftly: my sandwich-to-be was calling!). A rich variety of beautiful and thought provoking works in many media. My soul and mind stimulated as my tummy rumbles in anticipation, a feast for the whole human! The grilled sandwich and salad prove to be ... admittedly I'm quite hungry having skipped a few meals ... sublimely delicious fuel for my continuing cheer! The food and drink is so SO good, I really take my time... pausing to wander around and chat, admire artworks again, and taking a grateful portrait photo of the creator of this hearty goodness; and writing this gushing little review. (May my chaotically varying tenses convey a little of my excitement with the meal, art, beauty, and good company to be found here!) And now I've said what I need to say, I'll post and continue with the latter half of my brunch. I didn't say grace before wolfing in, but I hope this review will show my appreciation and gratitude. maybe I'm hypomanic and this review is over the top... But life tastes wonderful here! 😊

Love the place! It's like a maze with many artworks on display. People here are very friendly and don't mind explaining their work to you. Definitely a nice place to check out if you are into arts.

We did this with our 8yo - highly recommend it, we all had so much fun. The staff are so friendly and helpful. We had Nicki looking after us, she gently helped our son after his canvas ended up mixing to brown (of course he added too much of everything) and saved it to a great piece of kid art. There were no limits and basically no rules, and plenty of time to spend creating.

The crew at Blender Studios are friendly, genuine and knowledgeable. I was visiting Melbourne from Margaret River and by pure luck my hotel was opposite the studio. I saw a flyer on their wall advertising spray paint and stencil workshops. From the first time I went in there to enquire about the classes and every other time I visited I always left with a massive smile on my face. There is a delightful cafe, spaces where workshops take place and resident artists. I enrolled in the freehand spray paint lesson as a 46 year old total beginner. Matt who ran the class gave a lowdown on the history of street art and showed us some of his commissioned works from around Melbourne. We were shown how to create our own designs and techniques on what is needed to use a spray can as an artistic tool. We implemented our new found skills onto boards on easels all while being given more tips and knowledge. If you have even the slightest interest in street art I would absolutely recommend getting along to this place. The crew are so welcoming and pleased to share skills with others.

We attended the workshop on Friday 11 July with current artists Nicki and Doyle. It’s was brilliant, supportive and great demonstration! The girls, 6 & 11 loved the experience and walked away with some great artwork. They also loved exploring the artists in residence work. Thanks :)

I took my 9yo to the Glow in the Dark Paint Lab experience and would highly recommend! The artist (Bridie or Brooke? Sorry!) who led our class was a great instructor, making everyone feel comfortable and instructing on the fun techniques to try out before letting us loose on our own canvas with music pumping. A really fun creative activity to do with a friend or child!

Great studio! And great new cafe - good coffee ☕️ croissants, and other treats! Kids had school Holiday program there and loved it. Really creative teachers, super friendly - the programs were fantastic. Highly recommend!
