The Blue Barn

Fair food is expensive… and this is no exception. About $30 for finger food. However it’s not like we are spending this type of money all the time. We ordered the El Lote and Chicken on a stick. Both had the spices and nice hint of lemon. Worth the try at the state fair.

The poutine and elote were great. Probably the best things I ate at the fair this year.

I tried the sweet potato poutine and it wasn’t good at all. It was cold, probably because they make the food ahead of time to keep things moving fast and I was just unlucky with a old plate. The item didn’t contain all of the ingredients listed, the ingredients I did receive lacked flavor. I usually can bear finishing my food regardless if I don’t love it, especially if I’m starving.. which I was! But I could not continue after two bites. It was just not good, at all. Service wasn’t amazing either. Also pretty expensive! Compared to other food at the fair.

Always great new dishes each year. A must to visit each year at the Minnesota State Fair.

We visited the Blue Barn and had been looking forward to trying the new Sweet Potato Poutine. The description that we read said that it was supposed to be sweet potato waffle fries with cheese curds and turmeric gravy. There were a few small fries in a little tray, but no cheese curds to be found. The gravy was almost also nonexistent. I went back to inquire about the cheese curds, and was told that they were not breaded cheese curds, but the cheese was mixed in with the sausage? Totally deceptive advertising. Also a tiny portion for the $14 we paid. We will not be back!

Watched the MN state fair episode on Food paradise and Andrew Zimmerman's bizarre food and couldn't be any more disappointed after being so excited to try what I believed was going to be a unique experience. I ordered multiple items and the portions were not only skimpy they were not prepared as advertised on TV. The chicken n waffle cone was just sad...no gravy and just a few pieces of chicken served in a cheap waffle cone, the bleu cheese and fritz had literally no bleu cheese and you get 4 small bites. The hype around this place is a joke, just go to Giggles if you want a unique and tasty meal.

My wife, children and I were having the best time at the state fair enjoying all the great food and fun until we reached “The Blue Barn” and we’re disappointed with the service and taste of the breakfast Gnocchi and sweet potato poutine! They were the nastiest things we have ever tasted in our lives! First off they served it to us without gloves on. (sanitation issues, thank god we didn’t get sick!) Then to make the situation worse while we were waiting for our Gnocchi to the side for 10 long minutes we watched the wonderful happy and bubbly cashier get yelled at and treated very disrespectfully for “using the restroom” by what we guess must have been “the boss” in front of us. How rude especially seeing that the poor lady walked on a cane so obviously she was disabled and a little slower at moving around, guess The Blue Barns “Slaves” are not allowed to use the restroom until masta cracks her whip and allows! We will never spend our money with them again! We also looked them up on line and found out who they are owned by and will never spend our money with any of their restaurants since they treat their employees in such a tacky and nasty manner. Really don’t know how they manage to stay apart of the statefair giving out treatment to their employees like that. They should be grateful that their employees don’t quit or report their behavior. Good businesses pull their employees aside to talk to them if there is a problem and never treat them like that in front of customers. My wife has made it a priority to find every one of their social medias and review letting the world know of their nonsense. Thumbs down for this one Minnesota Statefair!

Excellent Minnesota State Fair stop. The Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich is widely known from here. The food and drinks are both very good. Really enjoy this newer area of the State Fair.

This place rocks. I enjoy their boozy slushies every time. The food is dynamite every time. They have tons of seating and lots of shade! The workers are always so friendly and fun. Check this spot out.

This year I tried the new Sweet Potato Poutine and the Breakfast Gnocchi. I absolutely loved the poutine! It was very savory and the sweetness of the sweet potato fries brought it all together. I also the thought the waffle fry shape was a nice touch. The breakfast gnocchi was good, but not my fav. I found it a little too tangy. My friends enjoyed the adult tropical slushee. It's a bummer to read the negative reviews and I hope those downfalls are fixed. I'm thankful I've only had good experiences because when it's good, it's really good!

This is by far my top place to go during the state fair! This crunchy chicken is to die for, and they always have the tastiest and most innovative drinks! They are always super fast and prepared for the next customer! Outstanding service!! Such a casual spot, and plenty of seating, a great place to hang out at the fair or meet friends!!

Blue Barn has some of the new food offerings at the MN State Fair and I was excited to try a different take on the ever present corn. Although the line was quite long here all day, it moved decently quickly. We got the sweet corn elote and the adult fruit slushee. The staff working here was also kind enough to make sure they wiped down all the picnic tables after it rained. The sweet corn elote was wildly flavorful and the plantain chips went so well with it! The adult fruit slushee was also quite good, sweet without being overwhelming and also tart. I'd certainly recommend these two items!

I had been hearing about the Nashville Hot on a stick as well as the fruit punch slushie. Both were absolutely amazing. The Nashville Hot was the perfect amount of spice and didn't have any burn until a few mins later, but very tolerable. The fruit punch slushie was also super easy to drink on a hot day when I was full of beer. This was at the State Fair, so parking is all up in the air. When you come in the entrance from being dropped off by the busses, this is directly to your right by Lulus and the Schell band shell.

State Fair first time try. Ordered the sweet potato poutine. Stone cold. Not stone cold awesome, but, stone cold like I was made a long time ago and then got no love from the heat lamp. So bad I brought it back. Next one? Warm but also clearly made quite a while ago. State Fair food is awesome. This is terrible. Save your $13.75 and avoid.
