Blue Bull is one of few restaurants located in Sneem proper, and one we really enjoy when visiting the Ring of Kerry. What I love about the town of Sneem itself is that it's definitely not a tourist destination, so the establishments in town aren't tourist traps. The Blue Bull is one of those awesome local watering holes full of charming, friendly townies.
The ambiance is true Irish pub -- surprise, surprise -- and not the desperate, miss-the-mark attempts of most American Irish "pubs." It's authentic and real, with dark flooring, dark wooden furniture including the stools at the small bar, and a wonderful peat-burning fireplace at one end of the dining room. On chilly fall and spring visits to the Ring, it's the perfect place to enjoy a pint or a *real* Irish coffee, which they do remarkably well here at Blue Bull.
The food is typical Irish pub fare, the likes of which you will find all over Ireland, but it's a step above at Blue Bull. The Irish stew is thick, rich, and satisfying, and served "Irish hot." In other words, scald your lips off piping. The fish and chips are fairly nice, and the shepherd's pie is worth a try. As usual, look to the chalkboard for the menu.
A great comfortable place to pass an evening, enjoy a meal, and get your drink on with the Sneem locals.
