On the Grid : The Blue Cafe

"Off the beaten path adventures are always better than popular and famous destinations! The Blue Café is a quaint little restaurant, café and bakery that leaves you with a buzz as soon as you come through the door. The smells and sights in and around the small interior captivate the senses and drive you to try new and exciting things. Try an almond shortbread biscuit, fanciful coffees and teas, or go home with some homemade pea soup (they have literal tubs of the stuff and it smells amazing). The Blue Café is snug, as well as being snugly situated in an area surrounded by beautiful Cape Town Victorian architecture all under the magnificent shadow of Lions Head mountain. Honestly just give them a try, you won’t regret it!" - Yellow Door Collective

A lovely local gem in the heart of Tamboerskloof. Such a lovely little spot. I’ve been here a few times and it’s always a good experience. The food is fresh, the latte is smooth, and the atmosphere is relaxed without trying too hard. Staff are friendly in a quiet, professional way. Just a solid little spot I genuinely enjoy coming back to.

Food and drinks are all delicious! Wide range of options on the menu. They’re laptop/working friendly. Perfect place to bring your dogs as well! Such friendly service, couldn’t recommend this neighbourhood cafe more!

+Nice location, not too busy +Lots of cute doggos about -Service is a bit on the slow side (but there’s literally only one waiter so that’s not really his fault) +Good coffee -Cheesecake was kinda meh 🤷🏼‍♂️ (not sure if it’s better earlier in the day when it’s fresher)

The perfect place for a cozy brunch on a sunny Sunday. Or on a sunny Wednesday. Or any other sunny day of the week. I really enjoyed their slow-food approach as well as the really friendly and attentive service. Highly recommend the wild mushroom toast with their exceptional sourdough bread. (Just wished for some more vegan options :)

A hidden gem, beautiful and cozy, and the food was good. The perfect place to eat and enjoy a good coffee.... however this is not a place where you can sit and work. (I sat downstairs and it was too noisy) The only thing i did not appreciate was when I asked for my leftover food to go into a takeaway box the lady in the kitchen used her bare hands to scrape the food from my plate into the takeaway box. No gloves. (It's open plan so i could see what she was doing).

My daughter mentioned the place. We have been to the Red Cafe so it was only fair to visit the Blue Cafe. Take a read about their history starting in 1903. Quaint and nice spot for a quick meal.

Visited this hidden gem last night. The basement and cosy corner is really something intimate and different. The tea selection is top notch. I had the Pinotage Rooibos. Definitely will be visiting to go through the rest of the teas. To eat I had a Pickled Aubergine Hummus sandwich. The sandwich was fresh, the balance of flavors was inviting yet filling. Definitely worth a visit

Such a cozy place. Up, down, left and right. There are plenty of nooks and crannies to explore. Set in the neighbourhood, with many facts and information about the building. Beautiful view of Table Mountain. Definitely worth a visit.
