On the Grid : The Blue Pig

"Driving east on Magnolia boulevard, you're bound to frequently spot the pickup truck stacked tall with swap meet goodies out front of Robert DeFrancesco's vintage and collectible shop the Blue Pig. Named after his favorite tavern in Cape May, New Jersey - Robert turned his lifelong passion for antiquing and picking into a store. He tries to bring in a little bit of everything but has a soft spot for old mechanical pieces. Nestled on the bottom shelf in the back of the store is the world's first pay phone. Drop one of each coin in, and you'll hear three different bell dings so that operators could tell how much you paid. The Blue Pig promises to educate and delight, give it a visit." - Jennifer Beatty

I love this little antique store. The owner Robert purchased it four years ago, right about the time I move to Burbank. It has a lot of great eclectic things for sale. A lot of telephones and recording devices and very interesting memorabilia. He’s willing to negotiate and he’s very nice. It’s always relaxing to come into the store, even just to look at what’s new.

What a terrific find it was while I was out walking my dog!! I loved the feeling of walking into another time period. The owners are such a sweet family and they have such a wonderful selection of great things and great prices.

Yelp
Happened to drive by while filming was being done inside and scored this awesome piece that was sitting outside at a great price. Thank you!

Yelp
Currently appointment only, but it was worth making the trip/appointment! Really cool inventory with a very friendly owner. The prices seemed solid and I'll definitely be back. Thanks!

Yelp
I shop in the area all the time and can't believe I have never spotted the Blue Pig! Open since the end of last year I believe the owner has a great collection of funky vintage items at fair prices! The owner is super nice, very helpful and has a great eye for quality. I purchased several items and even got a bit of a bulk discount, very much appreciated! Unique finds at affordable prices? Well worth checking out every time I am in the area from now on, so glad I stopped to come in!

Yelp
I've heard about this store for quite sometime from local yard sale/garage sale groups. I was finally able to make it by and look at all of their treasures. What a fun experience! They have a bunch of great items out front - set up on the curb and often in a truck... I get the impression the store space isn't enough for all the cool things they find and want to make available to others. I noticed in another review there was mention of the store being closed on rainy days. While I cannot confirm that - it would make sense being a fair amount of their inventory is placed outside. I hope that person will return because it's very worthwhile! Thank you, Blue Pig!

Yelp
I love this place! They are super friendly and are willing to make a deal with you if the price is right. But everything is already reasonably priced so regardless you are going to get a good deal. I have gotten so many great pieces from this shop and look forward to every time I visit. Even if I don't purchase anything I enjoy looking around to see what new items they have.

Yelp
I had THE BEST time here today! For starters, the owner is the nicest guy around. He's fun to shop with, has a perfect balance of being quiet and letting you look and being so friendly when you ask questions with ZERO pressure to buy. I found an item for my husband and was just kind of staring at it for a while when he OFFERED to knock a few bucks off of the price. He has really fun merchandise. Some is genuine vintage, some is reproduction. Prices are reasonable. It's a pretty junk-free zone. Love it. Also, the store doesn't have that "vintage store stink" and is super clean. Thumbs up. Take note: He's only open on Saturday and Sunday.

Yelp
Being a burbank resident, I always like to shop around and check out the local spots. I had finally got around to stopping by and fell in love The Blue Pig is so neatly organized and the owner was extremely sweet. It feels almost like a mini-museum with the range of vintage antiques and all of the prices are very reasonable. I actually fell in love with a mug that the owner was using to hold stickers and he made an offer to sell it to me I will definitely be back for some furniture and other cute decorative pieces.

Yelp
My sister and I went in to the store on a whim. At first glance it looked crowded and hectic, so we were hesitant. Honestly, I am glad we went in. The store has amazing items for any collector and the staff are kind and helpful. They don't push the sale on you and allow you to truly look at the items and asses YOUR need. Awesome staff, awesome stuff. Can't wait to go back!

Yelp
I checked store hours before making the drive to The Blue Pig Was so looking forward to checking it - only to find upon arrival, a sign saying that they were closed on rainy days. NOT COOL!

Yelp
What a great place to go if you are a collector or looking for something unique as a gift. Just starting to get into antique items and the owner is happy to help, share knowledge, give information and has wonderful items. It is a great place to visit if you really enjoy finding unique things at great prices. Will go back for the holidays - I need to find some classic items for my brother - someone who always enjoys something unique.

Yelp
The blue pig is incredible! You have to see it to believe it. Incredibly fair prices. If you don't find what you are looking for, Let Robert know and he will keep his eyes peeled for you. Inventory Constantly changing so you can always find something different in here! You can also bring your vintage and collectible items in to sell or trade. Robert will give you an honest assessment of the value and if he can sell it. Stop by the blue pig this weekend! Open fri - sun. Enjoy!

Yelp
I bought a swank 1959 Grundig Stenorette from Germany. Just what I was looking for, and only a few bucks shy of what I would have paid on ebay for equal value. Reel to reel, and the beast still works! Talk to Robert or his wife Cathy to get a good deal. They're real honest folks that'll help you out!

Yelp
This place is so great! Actual vintage stuff in good condition (and clean!). He's not passing off Target crap as vintage (cough, cough, MOST other vintage furniture stores). The owner is fair and open to making a deal and has excellent taste. There are things in here that could likely be prized objects worthy of Antique Roadshow. I bought a small mirrored tray for $15 and I couldn't be happier with the experience. I will definitely go back.

Yelp
Neat place. Didnt walk out with anything but a lot of things caught my eye. The vintage tin signs. Lots of old license plates. Buncha really cool matches. Maybe next time. Really great unique stuff though. Place is really small as well so I was in and out quick.

Yelp
Super friendly people and some great classic, pop-culture items. I found my childhood favorite board game here in (almost) mint condition at a crazy low price. Worth a look or two!

Yelp
Bought the most beautiful Vintage Family photo album from the 1880's here about 7 months ago, it was absolutely stunning!!! It was my first purchase here and I show it off to everyone! I adore coming here and the two owners are soo incredibly nice!!!!

Yelp
I attended the opening of The Blue Pig during a recent "Magnolia Park Girls Night Out" and was really pleased! The prices are really low -- $300 for a vintage stove in perfect condition, $90 for a Stratocaster in perfect condition -- which is rare for vintage stores. And the items are so carefully curated that there is something for everybody here. I got really excited about the vintage perfumes and cosmetics. At any rate, I'll be returning whenever I need a special something for a special someone.

Yelp
With a name like that you think it's a BBQ joint! It's actually one of the coolest places in the valley to check out antiques, vintage items and collectibles. Robert, the owner is a super friendly guy and will be happy to answer any questions. He also does consignments in the store. Believe that he was featured in one of the Garage Wars segments some time back. Visited his shop a few times and had great experience finding some neat items from long ago. You have to look around as there is much in cabinets, shelves, walls, counter, and in the back rooms. The prices are quite reasonable for the merchandise and if you buy several items he works with you. I like the fact that you get to look as much as you want and no one is pushing you to buy or to hurry and leave as in some other places. Parking is on the street or around the corner. Good to check the hours before you go to make sure he is open.

Yelp
I. LOVE. THIS. PLACE. And Robert who owns it is some kind of angel. I know that sounds over the top but it's not. I had been attracted to The Blue Pig on many drives home from work but today I finally stopped. I was looking for a few very particular items to shoot pictures of -- not necessarily to use: 8 track tape player, 8 track tapes, a poleroid camera, a rotary dial phone... you know, a bunch of stuff that is close to if not already obsolete. I was up front with Robert as to why I was looking for them, and he let me use my iPhone to capture the images of all of those items. He not only allowed it, he encouraged it once I told him why I was out shopping. I wanted to stay, as this shop may be small, but it is neat and easy to navigate and will give you a great trip down memory lane in some cases, and a history lesson in others. This store has some really wonderful items and a visit here will not leave you anything but uplifted. HIGH PRAISE for Robert and the type of inventory he keeps. It's a very special place.
