The Blue Rock | Restaurant and Bar

The Blue Rock is lovely. Perched on a promontory overlooking the river, the dishes we had were well-conceived, perfectly cooked and presented. Cocktails were refreshing and flavorful. We started with maiitake toast, which was gorgeous and in late September a great use of the wild-foraged bounty. We had the duck with cherries and pomegranate, perfectly-cooked, garnished with mashed potatoes and squash cooked two ways. The salmon with soubise sauce was nice (perhaps a tad more pureed onion would make it perfect?). Because the Blue Rock is the only restaurant of its type open on a Monday, the staff was busy, and very friendly. We felt no pressure to turn the table over and it seemed that diners were happy to relax and converse over good food and drinks for the evening. We will definitely return to the Blue Rock. Reservations highly recommended.

We made a reservation for a group of 20 and has a whole room reserved for us when we arrived. It was beautiful, spacious, and private. The staff was friendly and accommodating and did a wonderful job handling our large group. The food was amazing!! I got the ribeye and it’s worth it if that’s your thing. The desserts were also really tasty. There’s something for everyone here! We’ll definitely go again, and can’t wait for their outdoor seating because the view from their deck is beautiful!

The mushroom ravioli was loaded with shrooms! Absolutely delicious!!! The mussels and bread were phenomenal as well. So glad to have gotten a table last minute on a Saturday night. The ambiance is lovely, and service professional. I'd recommend for a nice evening out. Shelburne Falls is a winter's dream come true!

This is a hidden gem of a restaurant. The staff here were very friendly and professional. The food and drinks were delicious. I suggest getting a reservation prior to going. I didn't have one but we made a gamble for someone not showing up.... and sometimes when you gamble, you win. We were able to get a table for 2. Parking is interesting with some street parking up front but a large lot in the back of the restaurant. I am looking forward to going back again soon!

Liz is amazing! This restaurant has a great atmosphere and the food is great. My girlfriend and I came to visit this area from NYC. We were not disappointed. We will be back to this place next time we visit the area.

We really enjoyed our dinner here. It's a nice atmosphere - a bit rustic and a bit industrial. The beer selection was pretty good. However, the food matched with the prices were the star of the show. We were very pleased with our food and found the prices to be reasonable, which will definitely give us incentive to come back again!

October 2022: The steak was good and prepared perfectly medium rare. Panang curry was okay, mostly vegetables, my choice of protein was shrimp and there were fewer than I expected. Clam chowder was good. Ginger Ale had a funky flavor, if you like Canada dry this one has nothing in common with it other than color. However, my husband liked it, it had a juniper flavor he said.

Overall, I do want to say the meal was pretty good. At the end, when we paid for the check. It was extremely difficult to split between multiple people. We scanned a QR code and made it extremely complicated to divvy up the bill which is disappointing for a nice restaurant. Finally, when the waitress offered to void the charges (which was nice) and split it up evenly. When it was my turn to pay via Toast - I did tip (15%) which I thought was extremely fair considering the small portions and inconvenience it caused us - the waiter rolled her eyes at me because I did not give 20%+? I will never be going here again even if it’s the best restaurant in the area. I work extremely hard for my money and I rate accordingly to my overall experience. It is sad to ruin a good meal with a tip amount (that is fair) and you don’t agree.

WOW! One of the best meals I've had this year! I was torn between a burger and the "Ratatouille" Risotto, and I'm so glad I followed the waitress's recommendation. I wasn't sure what to expect, but the dish completely wowed me - it was incredibly cheesy, savory, and just full of flavor. I believe our waitress said it was made with chicken broth and had a mix of my favorite vegetables, including zucchini, garlic scapes, and tomatoes. We went on a Sunday night and had hoped to sit outside, but it was fully booked. That said, the indoor seating was cozy and had a good volume for conversation. Plus, they were playing movie on the TV with subtitles. The town itself is super charming - it was our first visit, and we already want to come back. Definitely recommend swinging by the nearby candy shop after dinner for ice cream or a sweet treat to finish off the night!

We walked in without a reservation and were able to get sat at a high top. The decor was nice (lots of plants!) and everyone was very friendly. We ordered the Ratatouille Risotto and Striped Bass as mains. The risotto was very creamy and cheesy, and the medley of vegetables were cooked well and provided a nice texture difference. The fish was also cooked well, as were the squash that came with it. Both dishes were really good, and a tough decision between them. I definitely recommend checking this place out if you're in the area -- you may want to make a reservation first though!

2nd time back and everything was amazing once again! We had a reservation and were seated immediately. It wasn't too loud and the lighting was perfect. For drinks we had the Spanish white wine and the spicy margarita. Started with the duck wings in pineapple sweet and sour and the house salad. Both excellent. I had the duck breast - a perfect mid rare and so tender- and my friend had the GF enchiladas. We were both so happy with the entrees! For desert we both had GF carrot cake which was perfectly portioned and absolutely excellent. Can't wait to come back!

Always great food. Always lovey people and menu is always refreshed. The views in summer are stunning from outside and if you're lucky to catch a freight train passing by it makes for a magical setting.

If you're ever in the area, make sure to stop by The Blue Rock for a hand crafted meal. This kitchen knows what they are doing. Taking complex flavors and executing them at such a high level is usually reserved for big cities but this team nailed every dish. Let's start with the Patacones. Macho bananas - Plantains lightly fried into a small sope filled with lightly salted black beans with homemade guacamole and a touch of pico de gallo. Next. Spicy Szechuan Tofu & Chickpeas and peanuts and rice. Spicy but not too spicy. Extra firm Tofu not overcooked or dry with chickpeas white rice. I would have preferred more spicy but it had all the notes To top it all off Are you kidding me ? Dark Chocolate Layer Cake with Dark Chocolate Coconut Ganache Simply divine. If you're wondering, I had a religious experience at Blue Rock. All of these items were 100% vegan. This staff are master chefs. Not only able to prep, season, and cook a rack of lamb or Elk Sliders but to be able to have an understanding of Patacones and then execute it perfectly. Wow. Then to be able to prepare vegan dishes with the care and craft that Blue Rock. Legendary. Kudos to the chefs, the kitchen staff, the whole team at Blue Rock. A standing ovation and bravo. Not sure when I'll be back but I'll be talking about this experience for years to come.

What an amazing food experience! This is a cute little restaurant with a view of the river, the decor is modern and pretty. We went on a Sunday night and the service was awesome! We got mussels, braised ribs to start they were cooked perfectly and the red coconut curry broth I could've drank it! I got sword fish and it was cooked perfect with just enough char, the other dish was an enchilada with a twist had some sweetness and a pop of spice, def don't drive by this place!

I came here with my mom and husband, and we enjoyed ourselves. I ordered the fried polenta with hen of the woods mushrooms, and this was perfection! Truly incredible. I could've eaten 10 of these. I also ordered the roast half duck, and it came with mashed potatoes, corn, and collard greens. The duck breast was really overcooked which was disappointing but the dark meet was a bit better. The rest of the meal was good. My mom was super happy with her ravioli, and my husband loved the burger. We also split the chocolate cake, and it was delicious. We had a great time at dinner. The servers were so busy, and somehow we never felt forgotten about. I'd recommend this place for someone looking for a nice night out in Shelburne Falls.

I have been here three times and so far there has been nothing to complain about, service and drinks are very good. They have quite a few choices when it comes to food with their own flavors and each dish is special in its own way. Definitely a must try, it is pretty important to get a reservation they do tend to be very busy with their weird hours.

Beautiful home overlooking the Deerfield River And Salmon Falls. Reservations helpful as it has limited hours and seats. You have to be in Shelburne Falls between 530 and 830 Food was amazing. Service was terrific. The restaurant has a bar in it separate from the dining room.

Superb food and service from Ashley! The ribs and Gorgonzola fondue are literally amazing and the caramel salt gelato is delicious! You have to go!

Every bite of this swordfish was truly an experience of ecstasy!! Amazing atmosphere!! And the service is the absolutely the best!!! Cannot wait for them to open so we can go back!!!!

We had a very disappointing dinner at The Blue Rock. After making reservations for a special occasion, we were seated at a four top with the fifth person squeezed at the end with no leg room. We sat for over fifteen minutes before anyone came to our table. Two tables that arrived after us were greeted and served food before a server came to our table. The food was good enough, but not good enough to overcome the terrible service.

We were seated at the bar, given menus and totally ignored by the bartender, the bar wasn't busy, although they had "reserved " seats at the bar?? We left after 20 minutes of waiting and was never asked if we wanted a drink . Too bad you won't get our business, I take that as a sign that the food wasn't that good.... Bad service!!

This was my first visit with my wife, but probably her 3rd. I was impressed by the interior of the restaurant and its layout. It has a warm, relaxed, and comfortable atmosphere, but also a bit upscale as well. There was a guitar soloist playing popular music at just the right volume that allowed for normal conversation. They offer a good variety of food, so both meat eaters and vegetarians can easily find something good. I opted for the mussels with wine sauce, and it came with two good-sized buttery toasted wedges of bread, which I used to soak up the delicious wine sauce. Wow, that was good! They also have a full bar with a great offering of imaginative drinks. Overall, I was impressed with everything, including the pricing, which was very fair for the quality and quantity of the food offered. The staff was helpful and friendly as well. There seems to be plenty of parking, but it appears that it could be challenging for those with mobility issues. I recommend making reservations. We had a group of 20 meet up for a team dinner and had a fabulous meal. The athletes and parents all enjoyed themselves. The service and food were both excellent!

Been here a few times over the years so I'll give them 3 stars for the fact that they seemed understaffed @ 5 pm tonight (one server and the hostess for both rooms) so poor service is technically not the staff's fault. Hubby's burger and fries were good. For the food: my carrot ginger soup too gingery and sadly not sweet enough. The romaine salad was the worst offender - how do you make avocado balsamic dressing without avocado? Apparently easily. So we left after our waitress didn't check on us each of the 5 times she walked by and averted her eyes. Would have gotten another drink and maybe dessert - oh well!

The Blue Rock was a perfect restaurant for our wedding day celebration at the Bridge of Flowers in Shelburne Falls! Our meals were delicious! We started with a martini and spicy tequila Ghostface Killah drink, so perfect! Our scallops and swordfish dinners were perfectly cooked and presented and our gluten free carrot cake was the perfect dessert! Then our celebratory sherry. The service was perfect and the owner's interactions suggested that we will be back! Perfect meal to end a perfect day!

Love The Blue Rock. They continue to up their game with great menu options, service & the space is inviting if you choose to dine in the main dining area or the intimacy of a side room that offers a bit more intimacy. Weather permitting their patio dinning is a good choice with a scenic view of the village of Shelburne Falls.

The food was absolutely excellent-we had a big salad, halibut and ribs. The halibut was juicy but not undercooked, very fresh, with a light lemony sauce, served with great mashed potatoes and a piece of roasted corn. Others we talked to raved about their Chicken Stadler and Mexican specialties. The service was impeccable, friendly and efficient. Drinks were delicious, with plenty of fresh mint in the mojito, for example. Wine list was well chosen. ambiance was great; one had a sense of a lot of people enjoying themselves, but good acoustics so you didn't hear others.

Solid restaurant in Shelburne Falls. I was visiting from nyc and stayed nearby for 4 days and ended up eating here most nights. The starter salad with citrus vinaigrette is outstanding. Also tried the mussels and grass fed burger. Flavors are right, food is fresh, not overly greasy. Sit in the main room or on the patio, the back room smells pretty musty and mildewy.

Not for foodies. Salads were basic, not farm.fresh or interesting. All three off ourentrees were overcooked (salmon, swordfish, and burger). The fish dishes were just an overcooked piece of fish in a bed of sauce over plain rice. Our waitress was lovely. She was the highlight of our dinner experience

We had a lovely celebratory dinner tonight. The pan roasted chicken breast with sherry mushroom sauce was delicious. Chicken was cooked perfectly. Mashed potatoes and asparagus rounded out the dish nicely. The Black Forest cake was an excellent birthday dessert. Bread was hot and fresh, salad fresh and crisp. We hope to return.

Massaman veggie curry with peanuts, Yum!! I was in Shelburne Falls to visit several of the galleries and came upon The Blue Rock. The menu contained a very wide variety of choices and I ended up ordering the Massaman veggie curry.... I'd not ordered a Thai curry outside a Thai restaurant before and I was pretty surprised in regards to how good it was. If I'm ever up that way again this is a very good choice for a casual meal.

The food here is fantastic. The ambiance is casual, but very nice. The service was a bit slow, but not terrible. My biggest complaint is the need to reserve a dinner table, days in advance. Still a local favorite.

Food always good Service generally good-depends upon how much tourism going on. Now that winter is here- little less wait time. Ambiance is good-rest room is clean, and wonder if wonders, there's even hot water in the men's room! Don't see that very often. And for desert-these guys make really great crème brûlée.

First time here the other night and we enjoyed ourselves. The staff were friendly and the food was better than a typical chain restaurant. Ambiance was great too! The menu options were elevated and versatile and there really was something for everyone. I had trouble deciding on just one entree. We got the butternut squash ravioli in a sage sauce, the Nashville hot chicken, and the scallops. All were delicious. The cocktails were great too but they could use 3-4 more to choose from. My only complaint is that we were never informed there were specials. We had ordered our entrees and then overheard the table next to us be told what the specials were that night and it was a bit of a let down because I would have chosen one of the specials instead.

Haven't been here in years bunch of updates no longer a dive some really good items are on the menu, good selection for vegans, good craft beer selection had the house burger,and the Java rib's burger is a burger nothing special! But the Java rib's two thumbs up!

Social distancing and COVID friendly with a lovely menu and tasty food. The wines are very nice, the blue tequila drink, not so much. The setting is really lovely. Our server was new and very helpful. There was a talented guitarist playing nice music. We had a nice evening out after many months of dining at home.

The 5-star reviews on this place ASTOUND ME. It's horrible. The food. The service. It's all bad. I've tried it twice now-- once for an anniversary and once for my friend's birthday. The only redeeming feature about this place is its patio with the gorgeous view. Last time I went we had reservations for 2 on the patio for 6 pm. Waited in the lobby for over 10 minutes for someone, anyone to appear to seat us. Servers whizzing back and forth not making eye contact or even giving a smile. Finally someone ("Holly") came along and said she had to "check on our table." We already knew the patio was full. Why they didn't reserve our table I have no idea, given we had called days earlier and they confirmed. Said people were finishing up. So we waited at the bar and ordered a cocktails, both of which were so sickly sweet (made from pre-batched mix too) that we couldn't drink them. Really unpleasant. And we waited: finally got seated at 6:45 on the patio. 45 minutes after our reservation time!!! Perused the menu. Decided to order a bunch of the small plates and share. We did: and rather than bring them all as they were ready they decided to serve them all at once. Well we got our baguette and butter but that was it. We didn't get the rest of the food for almost an hour. Finally about 7:45 the food came out. An hour and 45 after our reservation time. And I could forgive the wait for quality but-- it was really terrible. The pork belly confit was so overcooked and leathery that we couldn't cut it. The chicken "jerk" meatballs had zero jerk seasoning and were mealy and tough. Deviled eggs had an unpleasant, runny, weird consistency to the filling that kind of made me sick to my stomach. Crab balls were over fried. The only decent thing was the poutine. We liked that. So we didn't finish it all and decided to skip to dessert: a highly anticipated cast-iron cookie sundae. Which was also horrible. It's a small cookie in a mini-cast-iron dish that's not freshly made; it's cold and hard. Not warm and gooey: Scoop of ice cream on top with the barest small sprinkle of chocolate sauce and then a bunch of raw peanuts. Horrible. On my previous visit we had the mozzarella app that had the most sickly sweet basalmic reduction sauce that ruined the dish; mains were statler chicken and a mole chicken thigh dish-- those were also terrible. This place overreaches and fails. Bad food, bad service. Like really bad service. Hardly anyone came by to check on us or give us an update on the food status during the whole time we were waiting for the dishes to arrive. Also the inside decor is old-school (lots of pothos plants) and tired and uninspiring so if you're not lucky enough to sit outside there's truly no redeeming factor to the experience. I won't be back.

This restaurant, is the best part of my Mohawk Trail trip. Let me just say traveling on Route 2 and coming to Sherburne Falls was very impromptu and unexpected. I love the Ambiance and I love the food. I had the best duck in the region. And that's a huge compliment because I I'm from Boston and they serve a lot of good duck dishes. I tried their version of truffle flat fries which were a potato wedges. I sampled the salmon patty and the coconut vegetarian dish which was delightful. Then there was dessert, we ordered the cookie in a skillet with a huge amount of vanilla ice cream. Delicious! And my favorite which was the blueberry crisp a la mode... I have died and gone to heaven.The restaurant was full but not crazy packed. They have an outside patio and they have a good view of the falls. I will definitely come back here again.

Best restaurant in the Shelburne Falls/Greenfield area. You have to try it. Been here many times. Great atmosphere in an old granary building. Absolutely gorgeous view of the village, river, and mountains, best seen from a table on the verandah in nice weather but also visible from the main dining room. Menu changes every week. Which means it's FRESH, LOCAL, and INNOVATIVE. Always something interesting to try. Food is outstanding. Only nitpick is that service can be a little slow but they do tend to be very busy. Just order one of their great signature cocktails and enjoy.

Best restaurant in town- you are treated so kindly and the staff work so hard to make sure everything is perfect. Excellent menu and so happy it's open for the fall! Would recommend this to all my guest and friends

Blows my mind there isn't more reviews for this place! Everything about it is awesome. Great service , amazing food and top notch drinks for this small town. During the summer sit out on the front deck and over look the river. Ps don't skip out on the desserts here :)

I really, really enjoyed my experience at Blue Rock. The jerk chicken meatballs with goat cheese was such a treat. The cocktails were equally delicious, especially he spicy margarita. The truffle shoe string fries were divine and the dark chocolate layer cake stole my heart. t's also a cozy spot that, seems to be pretty popular yet doesn't feel crowded. I like that. Was definitely one of the highlights to my trip in the Berkshires.

Overall we left feeling like customers weren't valued. We waited 15 minutes for a hostess to appear/greet us (we had a reservation and showed up on time). After being seated it was a long wait before a waitress appeared. When she brought water and app dishes they were dirty! My glass had a lipstick stain on the rim, the plates had pieces of food stuck on the bottom and top. It was unbelievable, but we gave them the benefit of the doubt that it was a mistake. The waitress apologized and brought us clean plates, but the service was still bad. It took a long time to get our meal (about half an hour minutes after we finished eating our apps). Even though the restaurant was empty by the time we finished, the waitress was still inattentive. The food was okay, not spectacular. Overall disappointing and I won't eat there again.

Over ambitious menu with minimal kitchen proficiency in actually making dishes good or memorable, yet this place was packed. Perhaps this place is good enough on this remote location where better restaurants are not easily accessible on icy nights. The Rhode Island calamari was drippping greasy with breading falling off. The poutine was far from authentic. Deserts were not worth the calories. Would not return.

I must agree with Tara S. the five star ratings are a stretch. My actual rating is 2.5 stars. Holly who is either an owner or manager worked tirelessly to take our orders and serve us. Seemed like she was carrying the weight of several individuals.My pork tenderloin was cooked very nice however, was slathered in this off putting compote called sauce. My Wife's duck was meh at best. The chocolate cake was dry and tasteless. The whipped cream was great. speaking of chocolate it appears that their beer selection has a penchant for chocolate flavors.Better get a reservation as the place is packed can't be for the food? We were offered a seat at the bar as a two hour waited awaited. Just glad we didn't accept the wait.I guess we will have to learn to lower our expectations. It's not like there is great food where we live. Based on the reviews we have grown to expect more. It is not delivered here.

You know a restaurant is great when you're already planning your next visit before you have even finished your meal! We wanted to try a new place when we decided to drive 45 minutes to The Blue Rock. When we want to venture to new places for dinner out, we look to Yelp and when our drive took us north, The Blue Rock jumped out at us. We called for a reservation and we're offered a table on the porch, which we were happy to accept even though the temperature was dropping below 50 degrees. However, when we arrived, we were greeted with the option to sit indoors. Already excited by the great customer service we received upon arrival, we settled in for the difficult choice of what to order off the amazing menu. Wanting to leave room for dessert, we settled on only one appetizer, the absolutely perfect olive and artichoke bruschetta. It makes you forget entirely about traditional bruschetta. Dinner was their amazing and perfectly grilled burger and the short ribs. There's a reason they don't give you a knife with the short ribs. To say that they are the most tender and best flavored ribs I've ever experienced is an understatement. The accompanying horseradish sauce is the perfect balance to the beef's deep flavor. Dessert was the baked cookie sundae. Just wow! No other words needed to describe it. Service was well paced and very attentive. We were texting our son during dinner to tell him we can't wait to bring him here with us next time, when we definitely will sit on the porch and enjoy the outdoor scenery, cold or otherwise. Well worth the 1.5 hour round trip drive. Thank you Blue Rock for a lovely night out. Have been back twice since we loved it so much the first time. Second visit was just as amazing as first, especially because their Nashville hot fried chicken was probably the best fried chicken I've ever had. I told countless people about. We had to go back for the chicken and brought another couple with us for their first visit. Well, if this were my first time, I'd have scored it perhaps 3 stars. The PEI mussels and tuna sashimi were great apps. However the chicken I'd been looking forward to for the past couple of weeks was very disappointing! The mashed potatoes and vegetables accompanying the chicken were cold. As to the chicken, we had to hold it under the light to be sure it was fully cooked because it just didn't look or taste like the chicken we remembered. The skin was not as crispy and the honey "hot" glaze was anything but. We will consider the recent visit as maybe just, sadly, an "off" night in the kitchen and go back once more.

Such an amazing experience! My girlfriend and I both got the veggie burger and it was incredible. I forget the bartenders name but he gave us great service and recommended things for us to do for our trip to Vermont. Great food and drink selection

Loooved the food the service and the local food. Has the beet salad just Devine. The polenta appetizer was delicious If you like shrooms. Love it. We are visiting MA others wise I'd be back over and over.

So happy that the Blue Rock is open during these difficult times. They are doing a fantastic job following restrictions while still offering a good time. We love celebrating big life events here. Thanks for being delicious and beautiful!
