"Beachside Dining This Hawkesbury river boathouse looks like it's come straight from a shoot with Vogue. Elegant and casual, fun and cheery, it's worth taking a day trip to Palm Beach for. Red-and-white awnings hang over charcoal-painted tables where the white umbrellas don’t reach. Tin pots of orchids and tulips sit on stools. It's lazy, albeit very busy (be prepared to queue), and linen, jeans and flip-flop clad diners order from a large blackboard. The signature beer battered flathead and chips are light and crispy, served in a little wooden box. The pot of herby Boston Bay mussels are small and sweet. For breakfast, the fluffy French toast, piled up with mixed berries and drizzled with maple syrup and mascarpone, and the Boathouse baked beans are hard to beat."

Such a nice place! The view is splendid, just along the beach. It’s beautiful and peaceful. The food is really food and generous with big portions. The milkshake was just perfect (and I’m peaky with milkshake). The restaurant is very nice with a pretty decoration. A place where you directly feel at home. The atmosphere is convivial and full of joy. I had a wonderful lunch here. The only thing I was a bit disappointed was the waiting time. Someone told us we will be seated and with food in approximately 30min and it took more than one hour in total... but experience was great so we forgot about it.

Google
Great location, a stone throw away from the beach. The food was very fresh and the servings were generous. I did visit on a very warm day, so it was extremely busy with a very long queue, with that said, I believe we only waited about 30mins to be seated which was great (expected much longer). Staff were friendly and assisted as much as they could with our seating. Once seated, you would order at the counter yourself and the food would be brought out to your table. Considering how busy it was, the food didn't take too long to arrive. My advice, if it's a warm day, try to get there early so avoid a wait. Overall, I had great experience and never felt pressured to leave quickly after our meal was complete, considering how long the queue was. Date of visit: Oct 5, 2020, Lunch time.

Google
Had an amazing lunch! What a great place to stop and have breakfast/lunch. A variety of seating is offered from indoor to garden to on the deck overlooking Pittwater. Food tasted very fresh and ever dish looked like it was carefully arranged on the plate. Food was faultless and service was good as well. Compared to other spots was a bit more pricey but definitely worth it as it's still great value for what you get

Google
Impressed with the food prep and display , gotta love a chef that likes to take a photo of it. Keen attentive staff , great views and nice neat cafe. Food tasted as good as it looked. We will be back .

Came here one early morning for a breakfast. The place itself is very nice, with the great views of the ocean and beach. It’s got a very relaxed vibe and definitely seems like it’s filled with locals (in the mornings, at least). The service was decent. The girl at the front seemed relatively friendly. We ordered a bowl of granola, a croissant with raspberry jam, and a coffee. The food was average, wouldn’t say it was particularly special or anything but I guess the fruit was fresh and the jam for the croissant was high quality and didn’t seem to just be from a jar. Presentation was definitely a plus. Only thing was that we weren’t given a fork (just a knife) with the croissant, but that wasn’t a big deal.

Google
It’s popular for a reason. Both a fun and classy spot to grab a bite near the beach and enjoy some sunshine. All the fish is absolutely delicious, and the pastries and coffee are wonderful as well. If you get lucky, you can see a few sea plane embankments and lots of dogs playing on the beach. A short walk to the path up to the lighthouse, too! Great spot.

Google
Lovely view and great food. Had the tonic (ginger and turmeric) and salad platter. The lines can get pretty long on the weekend so have to get there early and parking can be a bit tricky. I’ve been to other boathouse restaurants and they are all good. Fresh food and nice, relaxed atmosphere. Definitely worth a visit after walking up the lighthouse in palm beach!

Really enjoyed the food and coffee hear when I took family out for the day . This place is always well presented and clean and the staff are some of the friendliest. The views from the deck hear are perfect check it out when you are visiting you won’t regret it .

Yelp
Simple, straightforward classic food. Oysters with a lime ginger vinaigrette, classic fish and chips, standard burgers and a Kids burger (just the right size.) The foods good, however, we all know that the real star of this spot is the location! It's next level, spoiled, to be on vacation and chill out in such a great location with the family on a weekday. The beer is cold, the watermelon juice is sweet and the food is delicious!

Yelp
Love it here! Stopped in here for some lunch by the water, and it was the best choice we've made today. A nice casual place where one would order at the counter, and they will give you a number to place on the table for them to bring the food to you. There are both in and outdoor seating for you to choose from and just help yourselves. We were lucky that there were plenty of tables when we arrived but in less than 10-20 minutes, this place was packed and the line to wait for a table was out the door. The food here looked and tasted amazing. Everything was delicious. We ordered (in Aussie $) the Bucket of Prawns ($39 there were about 15 pieces if not more and some sourdough bread which I don't eat but looked yummy), Green Salad with grilled chicken ($18+$9), chips with tomato sauce ($9 it's really fries with ketchup but they were large and crispy outside and soft inside yum). To wash it all down, we got some fresh coconut waters directly from the local coconuts. The food, service, view and the casual atmosphere were so fantastic that no words can describe this perfect ensemble of a meal we had here. Highly recommend it here, but please don't come here when I'm here. Don't like to wait in line. Wasting my life waiting in line is "no bueno"...ha.

Yelp
This place is heaving in summer. The breakfasts look beautifully put together. It's so pretty that you just can't help but admire it before you devour the entire plate. Servings are not too large but adequate. Service is prompt. There is always a long line but rest assured it moves quickly and so does the wait time for the food. It's a touch over priced but you cannot fault the location right on the beach by the jetty. The views are stunning as you are surrounded by flowers and carefully picked furniture. Food is on point. Tried the salmon fritters but the catch is that it's zucchini fritters with smoked salmon on the side, topped with two poached eggs and a cucumber salad on the side and dollop of aioli. Beautiful spot with great food on a summers day.

Yelp
3.5 stars~~~~~ Lovely setting in Palm Beach and very good food! Brekkie also good however we were here for lunch today. The Prawn lunch is MASSIVE!!! As seen in attached picture. Tasty too! Fish & Chips plentiful & lightly deep fried to perfection. Chips not that great tho~ The Trout Lunch quite large also served with smoked salmon too! As DEEELISH to look at as to eat ~ I prefer the Shelly Beach location however this location has the same type of friendly & helpful staff! Don't forget to have a cappuccino or a cold brew coffee, DEEEELISH

Yelp
Visited on a beautiful Sunday afternoon so it was very busy when we passed by the first time, thus we decided to visit the lighthouse first. This place is just too cute! Although, I can't say the same for the service. The food is quite pricey but quite nice. We ordered for the market fish and beef burger. Market fish was a bit too salty for me, but the fish was cooked perfectly. Beef burger was amazing. Would have given a 5star but the waitstaff bussed my husband's plate literally 2 seconds after eating the last spoon of food. It felt like we were being shooed out of the door.

Yelp
The boathouse is always a good idea! The food is tasty, served fast, beautiful location with nice views. Even though the place closes at 4, they stop serving at 3 which sucks!! But they've got a good variety of choices and fresh food. This is a chain as they have a location at Shelly Beach and Balmoral Beach.

Yelp
Drove up to Palm Beach on a Monday morning in Winter and sat inside, as outside undercover was full. I absolutely loved everything about the venue, decor and furnishings. There were quite a few people there so I can only imagine how busy it gets on the weekends and in Summer. Ordered coffees which were nice and poached eggs, bacon and tomato which was really well presented and tasted good. Shared the fruit platter which was a bit of a let down - not all of the fruit was at its freshest point and we had a few pieces which were out of the ordinary. Everything was a little over priced but I expected that due to the location. Also, if you are a Home & Away fan they were doing some filming next door at the time.

Great service and friendly staff Beautiful views of the bay Great decor Generous servings Great food presentation and little details Will be back again! Showtime

Yelp
Potentially higher rating. This review comes from my personal experience. I had been to The Boathouse in Shelly beach before and had a perfect lunch. However my experience in Palm Beach wasn't as ideal. TL/DR: Good Food but badly organised. We wanted to find out what was the great deal with the top of the northern beaches, after a couple hours of journey I feel we got there at a decent time to eat lunch and then head to the beach. There was a pretty long queue, but it was moving so we stayed since we heard you could order to take away. Ordered food and managed to find a table and all. We spent most of our time at the beaches waiting for our food. It was an unpleasantly long wait. And by the time food was coming, one of our orders had run out. The thing is, since a lot of people order constantly. Either eat in, or take away, they are swamped with orders and this is no fast food chain. So the service slows down heavily as orders come. They should re-think how they deal with clients and service here. I'm likely not coming back unless there is no queue at all. Food was tasty, but I wasn't in the mood to enjoy anymore. Wanted to eat and get out to the beach. Which was lovely to be honest. I'm sure the experience can be similar to the one I had at Shelly Beach, but so far, I can't recommend this place.

Yelp
The food is a bit pricey, but let's be real - you aren't driving all the way up to Palm Beach for the food. About an hour and half North of Sydney, the beach here is 5x as nice, 10x less crowded and 100% worth the drive. And the Boat House is all part of the experience. Depending on the weather - you'll most likely have to wait in a queue. Take that time to read through the menu, but order one of the following: - The Fish n Chips ($26): This is what I ordered. The fish was fresh and the chips were thick, salty and delicious. - The Bucket of Prawns ($36): Expensive, but it really is a BUCKET of prawns. A pretty generous serving - and super fresh. - The Burger ($22): Haven't tried it, but have heard from numerous sources that it is the bomb. Don't order - the Milkshakes (look delish, but apparently aren't that great). If there are 2 or more of you in your party. Have one person stand in line and order while someone else stakes out a prime location on the deck.

Yelp
Loved the waterfront views, the tasty fresh food and the smoothies are awesome! Definitely come for breakfast or bring if you're in Palm beach - definitely a treat. I ordered the avacado and smashed fetta which was very large and tasty. You calls also add eggs and bacon if you wish.

Yelp
Great place for brekky. If I ever do a list of places with friendly service this will be at the top. These guys and gals are so happy to help its nuts. I made a brand new best mate just by ordering a coffee. We got a table without trouble. Food was good, GHB's special order was no problem and brought as requested. Coffee was a bit cooler than usual, I don't like hot coffee but this was borderline. Mind you there were five of them. D1's mushroom toast was great. Keeno's muesli was good. Bacon and poached eggs were perfect. Higher than expected cost but not outrageous and worth it.

Yelp
Stunning location, perfect spot to grab some food and then enjoy the day at Palm Beach. The food here is fresh and tasty, but can be quite expensive. Their fish and chips is a must try and if you like raw fish, the kingfish ceviche will definitely hit the spot.
google avatar

Yelp
Was pleasantly surprised how good the food was overall. The bucket of prawns was the highlight -- they were really good and the dish was a good size. The fish, in the fish and chips, was very tasty but was a little small and overcooked. The pea arrancini's were delicious and there were 7 or 8 of them.

Yelp
The best bacon and egg burger with mayo and spinach in the country. Mouth watering that the drive from the city is worth it. 10/10 The breakfast cookie is good with a cup of tea yum.

Yelp
Let me get one thing out of the way at the start. Yes.. the location of the Boat House is fantastic... and on a beautifully sunny day you are going to be hard pressed getting a table close to the water to check out the view. That said... the view from the grassy expanse to the right of the Boathouse is also spectacular. As for the food, it was........ok..... I guess when I am paying as much as I did here I would expect something fantastic, and as such meeting my expectations my be tough. So tough in fact that it didn't meet my expectations. :-( We did get there early enough to have breakfast, but decided that a place that charges $16 for 1 serving of porridge, might provide better value at lunch. Not so. The fish and chips were soggy, and the fish was layered on the chips making them hard to even get at. The fish pie, was ok... but really... it was a little bland. Overall, if we had brought sandwiches from home and sat on the grass, we would have had the same view with great food. And the coffee....? Yeah.... well.... have a look at the iceberg in my coffee (in the pics) and tell me what you think. Other than that it was a little burnt and generally not fantastic. On positive was the milkshake that came in a traditional milk bottle. My boys loved it! Next time we go there, we will picnic on the grass for sure. On a side note, the parking there is not cheap either, but be warned, the parking wardens are ever present around this place. Cafe Summary ------------------------ Passion for Coffee - 6/10 Coffee beans - (unsure) Crema (1=burnt, 10=velvet) - 4/10 Special coffees avail? - N/A Special Features ------------------------ Toilets

Yelp
Love love love The Boathouse in Palm Beach. Featured in Australia's soap opera Home and Away, this diner style restaurant is hugely popular. The venue now attracts busloads of tourists thanks to the popularised show broadcast internationally. A cosmetic renovation has done the Boathouse wonders- with customers taking up every table in the house. Diners on the balcony will enjoy panoramic views of Pittwater as they bask in the warm sunshine. Tap water is available but is self-service. Ordering must be undertaken at the cash register but meals are delivered to your table. The service is exceptionally fast considering the many customers eating at The Boathouse. Aside from dining, customers can also purchase flowers with a range of beautiful Australian native flora, as well as standard roses and poppies!

Yelp
Idyllic, picturesque, iconic, momentous... all these superlatives come to mind when you first walk through and take in the scene that awaits you out the back of the boathouse. Quite simply, it is special and it is easy to see why this a favourite function venue and/or Sunday afternoon (or any day of the week if you're lucky enough) spot to kick back and wonder in the beauty that is this part of the world. And then there is the food, which is pretty good too. you can get great seafood, a wicked brunch and something to keep just about everyone happy. Sit out front, inside or if you're lucky enough to get a table - out back. Its all good. The laid back life of Palm Beach and the magnificent northern beaches culminates at the Boathouse, where you are more than likely see a sea plane coming in to splash down if its a nice day. I'm not even going to try and describe the view... words simply cannot do it justice. You have to see it for yourself. Unmissable.

Yelp
Set in lovely surrounds a nice cafe in a great part of the world. Place was busy but able to get a seat and out the front is much more quiet. Ordered poached eggs with bacon and tomato which was good sized and tasty. Coffee good and OJ a little disappointed. Overall a good breakfast.

Yelp
A beautiful cafe right ok the water. The place is stuffed full of fresh flowers and lovely beach house decor. The line when we first arrived was a little daunting and we couldn't spot a table straight away but the line moved very quickly and we were able to nab a table then. The range and quality of the food was great - I ate a salad that was lovely and fresh but was so large that we only just managed to finish it between two people so be warned the portions are huge. The prices were far more reasonable than we expected for the beach side area; $40 got us three drinks, a piece of cake and a salad. Hit up the cafe before having a swim at the famous palm beach or hiking up to the lighthouse!
google avatar

Yelp
Absolutely fantastic view. Food is just ok. No matter what time arrive there, always have to queue there. It is a relax place to catch up with friends and take pictures.

Yelp
Had an amazing night.. food was amazing, great experience with our waitress her name was Greta. She was there for us always making incredible suggestions, definitely will be going back & hopefully will be looked after again by Greta... Thanku Greta for going above & beyond incredible service, making us laugh & looking after us

Yelp
I had a flathead fish. It was great. Ordering at the order point and waiting for a seat wasn't really pleasant but the food was great!
google avatar

Dennis S.

Yelp
Still an excellent choice. Smoothies for the kids, coffees for the adults, nice wine list (also for the adults). Lots of seating, including inside on a windy day. I had an excellent burger, small but with lots of adornments. Nice and juicy and messy. The ladies shared a bucket of prawns, which were first class. (I managed to get a sample.) Then as I dawdled and paid the bill, the ladies and the grandkids went down to the beach below. Great location! Big wide beach on a calm ocean harbour, almost empty in early afternoon.

Yelp
Mixed feelings about this place. Food was pretty good but didn't live up to the prices you pay - I don't mind paying for exceptional food but I wouldn't say this lived up to it. Service was incredibly slow - not really a huge fan of lining up for 25 minutes to order but then to wait another 40 minutes before any food came out was a bit much. We'd been there over an hour before we even had anything to eat. We had the burger (really small but tasty), the fish pie (far too rich - couldn't finish it), trout board (decent but not a standout) - we also ordered one more entree which I can't recall but it probably wasn't exceptional (otherwise I would remember it). Coffee was reasonable, I enjoyed the milkshake. They ran out of the scones by the time they got to us, but to compensate, they brought out a taster plate of four desserts. Service is fantastically friendly and warm - no complaints there. If you can get a seat outside, I doubt you can get a better ambience for a sunny weekend afternoon (they're in demand though - we ended up inside). You can probably tell from my review that we enjoyed parts of the experience and felt other parts were lacking. Given how expensive it is, that's probably 3-stars in my book.
google avatar

Matt H.

Yelp
Right on the edge of Pittwater, we liked the service and food of The Boathouse. Service is the same if you're ordering a coffee or full brunch. Great bar and I've only had good (although sometimes slow) service. Best area is west facing on the dock. Too noisy inside. Worth a visit if your here especially since Crank Fins closed down
google avatar

Prudence M.

Yelp
As if a spectacular view of the Pittwater Basin wasn't enough, Palm Beach is a familiar sight to many Australians (and international visitors) as Summer Bay, the pristine setting of the Australian produced, prime time soap opera, Home and Away. On top of all that, there is the Boathouse! You really couldn't ask much more from a weekend coffee spot (which actually serves three meals a day 7 days a week). The Boathouse is always an amazing visit with its clearly well thought out decor which brings hipster, organic and the outdoors together. Every detail has been meticulously thought out from old school deck chairs to table number indicators with a coastal vibe and hand painted with seagulls. Even the toilets haven't been over looked with recycled brass pipes surrounding a huge mirror over a stone basin with amazing greenery on the side. To get every detail into a review would be impossible, it really is something that needs to be seen to fully appreciate. I'm guilty of never having had a meal at the boathouse. I'm so in love with both the Palm Beach and Balmoral Boathouses that I find an excuse to pay a visit whenever I'm in the area despite never actually needing a meal at the time. The coffee is always great and well presented and the selection of decadent sweets is absolutely to die for. If your after a way to pass sometime on the weekend it's well worth the drive up to Palm Beach to enjoy the original Boathouse!

Yelp
A beautiful setting on a sunny Sydney day - fabulous place to get together with loved ones and friends ! And I only ordered the Pinot Grigio as my mate wanted white wine. A bottle of Bollinger only cost $90 - great value for a place of this standard. Enjoy!

Yelp
After completing a morning walk up to the awe inspiring Barrenjoey Lighthouse, we stopped at the Boat House or a light breakfast and coffee. While it was rather busy, there was a sufficient table available. It took a short while to order, we choose a ham & cheese croissant and a bacon & egg roll, however there were many other options which got me salivating; including the homemade beans (definitely going to try that next time)! While we waited for our food to arrive, my girlfriend told of a time she came with her parents and their order had been lost; on this occasion instead of admitting to the eror and reconfirming the order they made a guess and the result was not well received.. After about half an hour (acknowledging that the kitchen was rather busy), we asked a waitress about our order. Amazingly, we found a repeat that our order had been misplaced! We couldn't believe our luck, however the waitress was very apologetic and handled the situation perfectly! Our order was reconfirmed, and fast tracked in the kitchen,,, We were also offered a complimentary cake and coffee which we graciously excepted.. The food was good, but not amazing! For $10 for a ham & cheese croissant, I was expecting a little more (I back Esther A's comment regarding paying for the location). In saying this, we ended up enjoying a nice meal in a beautiful part of Sydney.. I would encourage people to at least try the Boat House for themselves, I can only explain our experience as an unlikely coincidence! I can't wait to head back another time and try more of the breakfast offer, as well as lunch menu! I believe in winter, if you dine out on the pier, you're provided a blanket to remain warm. I think this is a great touch.
google avatar

Jennifer G.

Yelp
We had a seriously good fish and chips and a really fresh/delicious salad here and absolutely loved it... great views... and a few short steps across the road from palm beach... Definitely worth a visit... it does get busy though, so get there early!

Yelp
Great views, great location, decent food. The line is always long, since it is a staple in its area. However, my only complaint is that they had ran out of what I had ordered (a butterfly cake) and brought out a pistachio pound cake instead. When I asked a waitress about it, she told me that they ran out of a butterfly cake, and when I told her that I'm not too fond of nuts, she walked away essentially saying, "too bad." When I brought this up with another waitress, she was much more accommodating and gave me a few options to replace my order with. The staff is generally and usually very nice. However, this one waitress brought a damper to the experience.

Yelp
Gosh what can I say about Boat House that will do it justice? This place is just beautiful. It reminds me of a movie set - like something out of The Notebook. The cool thing about the Boat House is that it keeps getting better and better - the food is always great but these days you can buy gourmet produce and fresh flowers from here. If you can manage to snare it, grab a table in the waterfront courtyard, order a bucket of prawns and a glass of white wine - closest you may come to la dolce vita. If you really want to top off an afternoon then there is a boat hire place next door - hire yourself a little tinny and cruise around Pittwater - just magnificent.

Yelp
Incredible service, great location and tasty, well-presented food. We would particularly like to make note of Sam who was friendly and able to make recommendations particularly for my girlfriend who is vegan. The whole group enjoyed the veggie burger with one of them veganised. Our group also loved all the juices.
google avatar

Wes B.

Yelp
Wonderful spot! We went on a sunny Sunday. It was packed but we got a great table outside. One held it while the other lined up for about 15min to order. There was a sign saying 40mins for food but our steak sandwiches didn't take that long. The staff were fantastic which was surprising given how busy it was. Food good, Venue amazing, service excellent. Recommended.
google avatar

Jack K.

Yelp
Amazing food, setting and service. Highly recommend the bucket of prawns, burger and fish and chips! Couldn't have asked for a friendlier wait staff. We also got to spot a few Home and Away stars sitting a few tables away!
google avatar

Graham S.

Yelp
What a great breezy spot this is! Friendly staff great food and the only downside is the queue which isn't as long as it seems. After taking your first bite of battered brilliance time will stand still as you consume your tasty fish friend while at the same time admiring his home.

Yelp
Best lunch, brunch, breakie in the area you can't go wrong get in early to get a table.!

Yelp
Good food, bustling ambience, and despite ordering at a central order point, and them then bringing food to the table, it seems to work. Decent selection of wines and beers too

Luke A.

Yelp
A half an hour wait to order $29 for 2 pieces of cold flathead and sauce with dead and live flies everywhere and unclean tables. Thanks boathouse, Never again.
