Emilia Wickstead’s Guide to Auckland, New Zealand | Vogue

"I always stay in the Owners Cottage when we visit, and it’s the most therapeutic seaside holiday (only accessible by ferry!) It feels like a second home to me." - Elise Taylor

"Perched just up the hill from the white sands of Oneroa Beach on Waiheke Island, the Boatshed fulfills the wainscoted, shuttered, pitch-roofed holiday images that dwell in the minds of beach lovers the world over. Originally the vacation cottages of designer David Scott, the Boatshed now offers six sun-drenched accommodations that complement the laid-back island vibe—a magnet for a free-spirited set of artists, vintners, chefs, and water lovers. Many furnishings were custom-designed by the Scott family and exude the feeling of a boat cabin, especially when placed among the built-in shelves and cabinetry of the bachs —the local word for an authentic New Zealand beach shack. Accommodations range from old boat sheds to a three-story tower that feels like a lighthouse, and outdoor decks provide many opportunities to enjoy the sea breeze. The boutique hotel was the realization of Daniel Scott’s dream—to share the simple pleasures of the beach life with travelers from around the globe."

This is the real deal. Wonderfully calming and warm atmosphere, created by wonderfully calming and warm people. Everyone was genuinely interested in where you have come from, been to, or are going, the ambience is one of a cozy home, and the food was fabulous. The furnishings and book-lined, vaulted main room, compete with an open fire, were so inviting, you didn't want to go out. And the rooms were comfortable and well thought out. All of the staff - Jonathan, Victoria, Mila, Vesela (apologies if I have misspelt) - were simply delightful.

Wonderful hotel starting with a lovely personal welcome. Nothing was too much trouble. We’ve been lucky to stay in hotels around the world but this is by far the best experience. Would highly recommend staying for the ‘in house dining’ experience rather than going out in the evening - chef is superb and it was so relaxing.

We celebrated a weekend of our honeymoon at the Boatshed Hotel and we fell in love. Jonathon and his team made us feel like we were the only guests at the hotel. From picking us up at the ferry, giving us charcuterie and wine upon welcoming us into the lobby, and spending every meal overlooking the ocean. We will be back and cannot talk higher about our experience at the Boatshed it was heaven on earth.

This beautiful, quaint property is a gem on the island. We stayed in one of the bungalows and had everything we needed. They were so comfortable, convienant and relaxing. The food at the Boatshed was elegant and delicate - some of the best meals we had on our trip. The staff are a 10! All of them. So kind and attentive and go out of their way to make your trip exceptional.

The Boatshed is AMAZING. We came here to finish our honeymoon and were blown away. The food is fantastic, the accommodations were first class and cozy, and the service is above and beyond. The staff is kind and truly takes care of you. 10/10 recommendation to stay here!!

This is a lovely boutique hotel with fabulous views over the bay at breakfast and dinner. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. The staff could not be more friendly and helpful. The food (with much produce from their garden) is tasty and plentiful and it is delightful to eat on separate tables which offer privacy, but share the stunning views. Jeeps are available to hire by the day for touring the island. The wine list is short, but allows some sampling of local wines. Who could ask for anything more.

A really fabulous place to stay. Very comfortable rooms with attractive beachside decor. Lovely views of the sea from the terrace. Excellent dinner available each night for hotel guests only. Best of all were the charming and very welcoming team who looked after us. After four days there we were immensely relaxed and loving the Waiheke life.

Very hard to express just how magical and amazing our experience was staying at The Boatshed recently. Jonathan and his team are so gentle, generous and intuitive. We felt truly relaxed and at peace throughout our 6 night stay. My husband and I were celebrating two major events and there really is nowhere else we would want to be on these occasions as the hospitality we enjoyed was truly world class. Thanks again to Sebastian who cooked us the best steak we have ever had! Barb is also a fantastic addition to the team - she is a perfect hostess. Thanks again to everyone there who looked after us so well, we will remember and treasure these memories forever. Truly the highlight of this year for us!

Yelp
Great way to start our NZ adventure. Suburb location and views. Food and wine were outstanding. Will definately be back.

Yelp
Welcome home to paradise! From the instant you arrive, you are met with warmth, comfort, attention, a gorgeous view and delicious food. Rooms are beautifully appointed and probably the most comfortable bed EVER. The staff all go all out to make your experience the best. Be sure to also ask to be connected with Chris for driving, wine touring, etc and you'll have an experience you'll smile about for the rest of your life. Can't wait to come back!
