The Bob Hawke Beer and Leisure Centre

This was the most fun dining experience I have ever had! The curation from the seating to the carpet and the fabulous food make it a must for any Gen. Xs. We had the Peoples Banquet and all of the food was delicious! The prawn toast was excellent and the cornflake covered Vienetta at the end was fab! The pool room hosts marvellous memorabilia of Hawke and was a wonderful trip down memory lane. The extra special touch of Richie Benaud commentating the cricket in the restrooms was a genius idea! I would recommend this place to anyone who wants to have a great night out with friends or family who appreciate the retro vibes of the 80’s in Australia.

This place is a real cracker ! The staff are awesome, beers are very good and the cocktails are gold. The food is fresh and delicious. The memorabilia about Bob Hawke is so Australian and the Chinese restaurant is so 70’s. Will definitely visit again

Absolutely amazing. Everything from the pool rooms lighting fringes to the bathrooms screams 80s Australia. There is so much history and education in this place, it’s the most flattering thank you letter to the late prime minister. Beers were fresh and crisp. I also got some honey sesame chicken and prawn crackers. It may seem a bit pricy but the portions and quality make up for it. The chicken was tender and juicy, with a crispy outer coating. Everything just felt right. I don’t have a photo as we tuckered in and left with extremely full bellies. What an amazing experience and when I come back to Sydney I will be coming back to this place again! Also wanted to mention it’s got a seperate non binary bathroom and their t shirts are eco friendly. The signs they have up about harassment and “it wasn’t ok in the 80s, it’s not ok now” is really nice as a woman coming into this establishment. It could have very easily been a bloke exclusive place. I think it’s inclusiveness make this place comfortable

What a find taken here by friends in the middle of an industrial area my hopes were not high. Shame on me it was fab very busy great food good service excellent atmosphere.Beef in black bean sauce and honey toasted prawns were delicious. Give it a go.

Quirky fun place to spend an afternoon in an establishment that pays homage to our Australian beer drinking culture and the deeds of Bob Hawke and the Labour Party. A vast array of memorabilia fills this unique space within this repurposed warehouse. Grab a simple but tasty feed at the Lucky Prawn Chinese restaurant and enjoy the music, the beer and the crowd.

Fabulous! They’ve taken old-school Chinese food and brought it up to date with flair and flavour! Fresh, real ingredients and generous portion sizes. We tried the recommended classics: prawn toast (OMG!) and deep fried Viennetta (yum) and they lived up to the hype. Mushroom fried rice was delicious without the old school grease, and a wonderful Murray Cod with ginger and shallots was perfectly cooked and subtle in flavour. Lovely retro room with a backdrop of the fermenting tanks to remind us that we’re actually in a brewery. And out the back is a wonderful showcase of photos of our country's most charismatic and fun loving ex prime minister, with some memorabilia donated by the Hawke family. Such a fun and delightful experience for a Thursday evening. We’ve already booked again to come try out more dishes. Special thanks to our waiter Harrison who provided the most unconventional and amusing service that I had ever experienced, and still managed to give great warmth and hospitality. Great retro venue, cool vibe, delicious food bringing back the comfort Chinese food we grew up loving, and snappy and attentive service. Do yourself a favour! OH! And did I mention the beer? It’s a brewery after all. Great selection of craft beers with tasting flights available. This place rocks 🌟

We had the absolute best time! Every single staff member was amazing - so welcoming, friendly, and genuinely lovely, not just to us but also to our dog, which meant a lot. From the moment we arrived, we felt completely at home. The atmosphere was fantastic, relaxed, and full of good vibes. The food was great, the drinks were great, and everything just flowed perfectly. I celebrated my birthday here and honestly, it was one of the best birthdays I’ve had in a really long time. It was just stupid lovely - such a fun, warm, and memorable experience. We will be back as soon as we can!

Looking for the good old slap up Chinese meal? Look no further! Heard about this place and was impressed by the gluten free options for classic 80s Aussie Chinese. It’s like a staged time capsule to the 80s with a good dose of humor. Make sure you book because it was busy! But that only added to the atmosphere. Good beer, great food and friendly staff. What else can you ask for. Definitely going back. May be for Sunday yum Cha next time. (Without the coeliacs)
