"The Book Lady is one of those jumbled, quaint, old bookstores that you see sometimes in movies but not as often in real life. A couple steps down from the Liberty Street sidewalk, the shop sells a mix of new and used titles and rare editions, with a fabulous selection of books of local and regional interest. You'll find big-name titles (Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil) as well as terrific books on Southern history, cooking, and culture. And, as one of two superlative bookstores in downtown (the other is E. Shaver), it also tends to attract authors making their rounds in the South. You may be lucky enough to be in town for a reading." - Ariel Felton, Sam Worley

Google
A bookstore I would definitely recommend visiting. It has a wide range of old and new books.

Google
Popped in to seek refuge from the sun & immediately fell in love with this little store. Only wish they had totes so I could fulfill my dream title of book lady & represent a small, local shop!

Brittney Pickering

Google
Small but full of life. Friend collecta signed books and the staff was quick in helping find several signed books even some first additions to add to her collection. Very friendly, helpful staff.

Joshua Silverman

Google
Cute cluttered woman owned used book store. Lots of cool finds if you're a good book hunter.

Google
Super cute book store. Loved looking around. Bought a few books.

Google
What a fantastic little store, so many old and niche books of any genre. The owner was a delight to talk with. Will absolutely be going back when I'm in Savannah again.

Alana Rogers

Google
Very cool bookstore! I love that they sell used books. The store is very small, cute, and quaint with books overflowing everywhere!

Joyce Marie

Google
Great selection of new and old in easy to find categories. And if you can’t find what you’re looking for, just ask. Very helpful.

Amanda S.

Yelp
Loved it. Great selection of older books. Nice staff. It felt more family-friendly than other bookstores around. I appreciated that.

Mariyam S.

Yelp
What a lovey, quaint store! We were just strolling by and decided to step in. The entrance is really easy to miss. They have a great collection of books (both old and new), reasonably priced. The store itself is small and cozy, there are chairs here and there if you wanted to sit and read. well lit, clean.

Aaron M.

Yelp
Eclectic bookstore with a small selection of rare books. They have a lot of older publications and those they are slightly used. Only issue is I took a picture of a newer book I wasn't ready to pull the trigger on and a manger/owner/employee stopped and aggressively asked me why I was taking the picture. I said excuse me and he asked again why the picture. The employee/owner is clearly worried about losing business to Amazon or Barnes n noble. If you can avoid speaking to him it's worth a stop for that old book smell alone. I purchased an older hardcover novel for $12. Great deals to be found

Carrie S.

Yelp
Helpful staff! i am looking for a specific author and they took me straight to the section where i found two books of said author. Then I leisurely roam around and browse the traveling section where I found a book I never knew I'd be interested at. Overall, very joyful and enjoyable book store experience. They have a great blend of used and first edition books. I'll be sure to come back on my next visit.

Sasha S.

Yelp
Great bookstore with so many amazing books. The staff is knowledgeable and helpful. There are so many great books and the prices are good.

Kristi B.

Yelp
While we were out, exploring the city, we stumble across this little book shop. It's very quaint and stacked wall-to-wall shelf shelf with books. While it is semi-organized, and there are areas for one to sit to read, we did find that it was just a little bit too small for our liking, and a little hard to maneuver around due to their being so many books. There is a mix of both used and new books that the customer can look through

Keith D.

Yelp
Awesome selection and helpful staff! Loved the Southern selections and the "rare" case! Picked up a Kerouac book I've never seen and will cherish it as a Savannah souvenir!

Ann Marie G.

Yelp
This is the best bookstore for browsing and relaxing! They have thousands of books and many recommendations that are helpful. They also have the most comfy chairs and reading hideaways.

MJ H.

Yelp
There did seem to be a huge selection of books, just nothing I was really perusing for. The only reason for four stars instead of 5 is for the service. A man had come in and the guy working just seemed to be a bit rude towards him. Granted, the customer was an old man and was just trying to banter a bit, but he was just kind of dismissing him. I work in the service industry, and that's just a turn off for me, even though it wasn't me. Definitely check it out for yourself. They seemed to have a lot of history and biographical books along with some more older selections.

Alexandria C.

Yelp
Great bookstore with a large variety. Highly recommend stopping here if you're visiting Savannah. Staff was very nice and welcoming! Could definitely find some gems here!

Ben R.

Yelp
I was about to buy Anthony Bourdain's Kitchen Confidential here and was looking at the mystery section when an employee, or possibly the owner, hit me in the back with a doorknob when she opened up the door. She just kept on walking. No apology or anything. Needless to say I took my business down the road to the Shaver bookstore with the cats. They were much nicer.

Sarah G.

Yelp
The Book Lady Bookstore is one of those classic shops that is floor to ceiling books. It's like the fever dream of Belle from Beauty and the Beast. I loved the eclectic arrangement of books, the intimacy of the corridors, and the vibe of this local treasure. If anything it was a bit cramped, but overall charming and if I lived in Savannah I'm pretty sure this would be part of my usual rotation, especially when shopping for a gift.

Jasmine O.

Yelp
The male employee who is consistently there, who I presume to be the owner, is quite rude and patronizing. I've been multiple times, and both my girlfriend and I picked up on his hostile and rude attitude. As someone who works in the service industry, I would never treat another person with that level of disrespect. Save yourself the trouble and go to E. Shaver Booksellers down the street.

Amanda W.

Yelp
The BLB is a charming and well organized store, yet somehow I still left uninspired. There is a selection of local history, which is nice for those looking to learn more on Savannah. There is not a children's section worth mentioning, so don't go with children in mind.

Ruby G.

Yelp
Wall to wall books..... and it was divine. Greeted at the door by a friendly shop pooch, I felt like I had slipped into the secret library of my favorite aunt. New and used, with plenty of reading chairs.... It was a comfortable non-pushy, very non Barnes and Noble cookie cutter vibe. Check it out!

Karen D.

Yelp
I had a lot of fun visiting the bookshop, it can be a little overwhelming because there are books everywhere, but I enjoyed every bit of it. I grabbed whatever caught my eye and they were very affordable. T

Jennifer C.

Yelp
I'm a hardcore reader and a supporter of independent bookstores. When I saw a used bookstore in the Savannah area, it was a no-brainer. BOOKS WERE EVERYWHERE! I was in love. Some may see chaos but I saw organized chaos which made me smile (there is a difference!). Pleasing to the eye, but a bit hard to maneuver through, I made it through the entire store regardless. Multiple rooms, vintage chairs, fireplace, creaky floorboards, and recycled books. Did I say I was in love? During my visit, a local author came in and signed all of his books. AWESOME! The woman seated at the checkout was reading...not on her phone, which I highly admired...and she engaged with me in conversation and even read a passage from an old book that had just been added to the shop's collection...a passage about bookstores. Sigh. The Book Lady Bookstore is set in a string of shops in a historic building off of Liberty Street. I found it easily with GPS walking directions. Metered street parking only.

Yelp
Pretty neat book store to visit and browse the racks. They have a combination of new and used books. This isn't the kind of place you come to if you are looking for a particular book but more a store you come to to see what you can find. The book store itself is small and not easy to navigate. They certainly have made the most out of the small place. I wouldn't come here if you are claustrophobic and it certainly isn't wheel chair or stroller accessible. Also you have to step down into the store to get inside. I was thankful for the person who told me that before I went in, otherwise I probably would have fallen flat on my face. All that being said, the books were very well organized and staff were accommodating and offered assistance looking for books of interest. My sister got a book for her grandson written by a local author and her husband got a nice coffee table book about the Savannah squares. Worth a visit if you are a bibliophile.

Cine S.

Yelp
Support local booksellers instead of dudes that want to colonize the moon in their phallic rockets. This place is terrific. One of the two places I call first when I'm looking for something. Great selection of local authors. An extremely well-read and knowledgable staff. Spend your money here. I could easily sit and browse in this place for hours.

Maddie H.

Yelp
The Book Lady Bookstore had such good ratings on Yelp that I came here on my trip to Savannah hoping to find a few gems. When we walked in the staff member at the front desk stared at us and didn't greet us. This wasn't necessarily rude but just a bit strange. I immediately noticed the shelves were absolutely crammed with books. I got a claustrophobic feeling as I was trying to look at books in the back and I had to squeeze past other people. There was kind of a faint musky smell that was off putting. I tried looking a bit but was just kind of turned off. I'm sure if you're willing to sort through the stacks I'm sure you can find some great things. My thoughts were, why try when E. Shaver is down the street? I am floored by all of the positive reviews for this place, perhaps they have more patience than I do.

Xavier A.

Yelp
Find indie bookstore with a lot of good selections (used, new, local and "indie") one quirk though, I purchased two books and asked if I could have third bookmark (as I collect them from around the country) as was told gruffly "...two books, only two bookmarks...", strange attitude for something as innocuous as an extra bookmark.

Lara L.

Yelp
I typically buy books in such huge quantities that I usually only buy new books directly from author or Amazon, honestly I'm more of a used book buyer because I primarily by books that are out of print BUT this store has such unique collections and offerings that is definitely worth a trip. I also though their prices were pretty reasonable.

Grayson R.

Yelp
Everyone here is excellent and the variety of books is crazy. If you enjoy books, this store is far different from the others in the area. Something to keep in mind is that as of 7/17/21, masks are required for entry.

Tricia B.

Yelp
I love book stores, there are far too few and the ones that exist are always so unique. The Book Lady is not exception- it feels below the ground, as though you've entered a secret cave of books. The books are everywhere, and its a sight to behold. There are some places to sit that look particularly well loved, and the purchases came with a book mark. I found some treasures from local authors and on Savannah which I'm glad to have purchased locally instead of some larger, less personal retailer.

Darren H.

Yelp
Dropped in while visiting Savannah with the wife. Cozy bookstore with terrific selection, including a recently-acquired selection of pulp sci-fi and horror. Extremely knowledgeable staff. Will visit again.

Liz S.

Yelp
Such a charming store with a broad selection of books. Prices are comparable to Amazon, so why not support this beautiful local bookstore?

LeAnn B.

Yelp
We ended up going here twice. It was an easy walk from our hotel. First day we went and browsed and hubby found a book he wanted. I hadn't found anything. Walking back to the hotel I mentioned an author and he told me he had seen 4/5 titles. We went back the next day. Score. I found 5 hardback by the author I wanted for $7. They were in excellent condition. Lots of gems in this store at a great price. Paperbacks for $3 hardback a little more. It is full and lots of kooks and crannies. They only allow a few shoppers At a time (social distancing) so it doesn't feel cramped. Live the shop and the guy working there was pretty nice. Will visit again In the future.

Rain W.

Yelp
An impressive collection of rare editions, eclectic reads, classic literature and contemporary paperbacks/hardcovers. The store is laid out uniquely in a charming little building while also being easy to navigate (without large tacky signs like some bookshops). Also, reasonable and competitive pricing unlike many bookshops of this type. A great find.

Mona L.

Yelp
Really kind staff and charming bookstore worth a visit in town. Wish they had a spiritual book category but I understand there's only so much space and maybe the demand isn't there.

Caitlin K.

Yelp
This was a fun bookstore to visit. It's a bit cramped, but they have a great mix of new and used books to browse. They have a tiny kids section, a few $1 baskets, a good feminist section, and a nice selection of local/regional interest. They have a first edition copy of Jumanji and a small selection of rare books that are interesting as well. If you like you visit bookstores when traveling, this one is a must!

Dania O.

Yelp
This is a magical little bookstore tucked away in historic Savannah GA. It was so nice finding this place and just going back in time. The prices were good too and there's a wide selection of all types of books organized by genre.

Mark K.

Yelp
Small. Packed with books. Helpful staff. What more could you want? Tons of books, on every subject. New and used, well-organized. Local and Georgia sections. A tiny tea and coffee nook. Just what I imagine a perfect bookstore to be.

Melissa R.

Yelp
Huge variety of books, you could easily spend hours in here! It's filled to the brim but organized in nice sections. There is definitely a cozy feel inside, a little bit of a tight squeeze in some parts. There are few places to sit and read. To be honest, I haven't been to too many bookstores to compare but it seemed like a great selection to me!

Pamala S.

Yelp
Crossed the South Carolina state line into Georgia just to visit the book store because of the high Yelp ratings. As soon as I stepped inside, I knew it was not my cup of tea. The vibe was so dead I asked the two guys sitting around in the front whether it was open. One of them offered assistance and I asked about New Age books. I just knew in the store's ginormous collection there had to be at least one astrology book. He said he doubted they had any as it was difficult to acquire them in the South (WHAT?!). He directed me to the Religion section where they might be, but just like he said there weren't any. I browsed around and then moseyed on out the store empty-handed. Nothing sparked my interest. I had better luck at the Book Warehouse at the Tanger Outlet in Bluffton.

Ariana M.

Yelp
Couldn't even get in the book store with out a mask. The store was also closed the days they said they were open.

Mark L.

Yelp
This bookstore will take you back in time for a while. It is a little cramped when you walk down off the street into this store but the selections are fantastic. From classics to local to rare, you will not be disappointed. No pressures here as you can stay as long as you want or sit on one of the chairs and read. There are a few hidden rooms with children's books, women's studies, sports and biographies as well. If you are a reader, you will find a few purchases here.

Caryn G.

Yelp
One of my favorite spots in Savannah!!! I found a few treasures. Would love to stay and peruse all day. A good place for bookworms to get lost!

Natalie C.

Yelp
Really enjoyed stopping in, they have an amazing selection of books and very attentive, knowledgeable staff. They were also mindful of COVID and it felt very safe in the store (they limited the number of people, made sure all were wearing masks, etc). Looking forward to returning the next time I'm in Savannah!

Jason C.

Yelp
A really great used (& new small press) bookstore. Excellent Southern selection, impressive poetry stock. I stop and leave my money here every time I'm in Savannah. Great prices and cozy ambiance.

Ngozi A.

Yelp
My first time in Savannah since I was a child, this bookstore was on my list to check out during my visit as an avid reader. I've enjoyed books and magazines all my life so finding a place that has some reads I can get into is very important to me locally and on vacay! Book Lady is a small bookshop with a real live book lady sitting to your left once you enter. She is extremely knowledgeable about books and has a system that can get you going on topics you're interested in. From Georgia history to bestsellers to random finds, you can definitely find something in here for yourself or someone you love. It's filled with books at every fingertip and quite a few are old, so it leaves a dusty environment. There is not much seating and the bookstore can be a bit cramped, but with all the books around you, you may find yourself standing and skimming a bit. There is a small cafe in the corner that serves beverages and small snacks. Everything here is really cute and nifty to be honest. I spent almost an hour in here picking up childhood favorites ("Caps for Sale" and "Goodnight Moon") that brought back great memories and made for great buys for several children in my life. I also snagged a few fiction pieces ("Fight Club" and "We Are Liars") that I can't wait to get into in my spare time. There were boxes of .50 books sitting right outside of the storefront that had some gems as well. Overall it's a great bookstore to check out when visiting Savannah. I enjoyed myself.

Lisa S.

Yelp
A great local bookstore with well-stocked shelves. You can tell that the buyer carefully selects which books to stock. We met Chris, and he knows his stuff. He suggested many good titles for us. You must pop in and buy a few local books if you're in town!

Erin B.

Yelp
Walked in on a chilly day to peruse and ended up sitting with a good book and purchasing it. Very cozy environment with cushy vintage seating.

Jenny S.

Yelp
Seriously one of my favorite places ! I was lost inside this store and walked out with 10 books ! The place is magnificently magical! Come visit ! It has inspired in me to search for original printed books or as close as possible in my future travels ! There were so many choices ! And the place was totally inviting to sitting down wherever and browse to find whatever is perfect to take home !

Victoria L.

Yelp
This was such a nice store. There are so many genres, anywhere from originals to brand knew. It's like an adventure going in and looking

Richard H.

Yelp
My wife is an avid reader and always loves a great book store when traveling. We found that exactly at the Book Lady. E. Shaver sent us down after not having the book my wife was looking for. As soon as we walked into the shop we knew we were somewhere special. Chris was really helpful and knowledgeable. One of our favorite finds thus far in Savannah.

Colleen D.

Yelp
Found their bookstore on Yelp. Happy to read the good reviews. Pointed our car towards the store. We on our way to Disney figure a book stop was a good idea. Stretch our legs while letting are minds go on an adventure. We pass the store. Drive around find a spot, pay for our space walk the two blocks to only find out it was closed on Tuesdays. Wow thanks for entering that on Yelp. It has the hours but nothing about closures. So it took us out of our way for nothing. By the way closed on Tuesday's. We will definitely tell our friends and no we will not be coming back.

Alexis N.

Yelp
Love this bookstore. I've been in once before but this is the first time I found a couple things I wanted. I didn't notice until I got home that book markers were put in the books I bought which was nice! Thank you!

Daja J.

Yelp
Stumbled past this little treasure while on foot and I definitely liked the how tucked in and neat it is. It didn't really possess the kind of reads I gravitate towards but I'm glad I decided to take a look inside.

Amanda M.

Yelp
I really loved the quiet, basement vibe of this little bookstore. Bookstores like this are a nice quiet reprieve from the outside world. My only constructive piece of criticism is that I wish they had more used books at cheaper prices as they seem to be overpriced on a lot of stuff. I would have loved to see a larger used variety on local books/famous southern writers.

Robert R.

Yelp
A very interesting little indie bookstore in the middle of all the bars and restaurants in downtown Savannah. Don't go in here looking for the top ten NY Times best seller list, this is a place to explore and find hidden treasures that are buried on very shelf. An extensive collection of classics and older books organized by topic. There's no way I could describe the range of authors in this review, but it compares to the City Lights book store in San Francisco. The owner has a sense of humor, there was a book authored by Tom Brokaw on the shelf with a dozen Jack Kerouac books. There is a small section of paperbacks and children's books, but this isn't a place to buy those books. This is a place you need a few hours to really appreciate. Physically, it's close quarters and difficult to see the books on the lower shelves but I found plenty to look at. Also take a moment to stick your head in the rest room. It brought a smile to my face.
