The Bookshelf

A store recommended by a friend, and such a lovely one. It was a place where people met each other spontaneously; ideas and contacts were exchanged. The owner, Ben, seems to be a gentle soul with a fierce love of social justice. It was a pleasure to speak with him. I found some unique items to use with my spiritual direction, and some books the piqued my interest. 51 years this store has served Guelph! Definitely take a peek.

One of my favourite places in Guelph ! The cinema has great selection of movies and you can have some wine too. The bookstore is so cozy, really love the vibe here for something local and unique ❣️

Ooo I loved this place. They got good collection of books. There’s a cafe inside. Didn’t try any food or drinks so don’t wanna comment on that. But they got good range of book genres and nice collection. Also got stationary and games.

Amazing! I really love the bookstore and the cinema. It's a cozy environment, the book's catalogue is diverse, it surprised me a lot.

I visited in-person for the first time since COVID and it's still the same warm and cozy bookstore you'd expect in a romanticized movie. Coming in from the rain on a slow Froday afternoon, I'm greeted by friendly staff and their selection of new and recommended books. The in store selection is smaller than chapters, but every book seems worth your time and interesting, as if it were curated just for you. They're also able to order basically any book you'd like, so don't be shy about asking for a book you want but can't find. The store is clean, the shelves are tidy and the atmosphere is calming. As I checked out with Ishiguro's "Klara and the Sun" in hand, I had a nice chat with the person on cash about the book. Special note: their bags are also compostable. I really love the Bookshelf, and I can't wait for it's theatre to open again. It's a genuine part of what makes Guelph feel special and like home. Please support this local bookstore.

Cool bookstore with lots of selection of books and a great place to get new movie posters! Definitely one of the places to visit in Guelph!

Very cute independent theatre. I saw kinds of kindness here. Only thing is that the theatre is pretty cold and not super comfy, but the prices are great and it’s a cute spot.

Ordered a simple salad and soup but they are both fantastic, a little pricey but the portion is good; seems quite busy so reservation is probably a good ideaz

The value is in the movies they show and the intimate setting. Very nice people and good service. They are spending a lot of money renovating everything and the outcome will be impressive.

I'd have to agree with the other reviewer in that I too found the food as overpriced for what it was. I had the vegan dish as well, and was underwhelmed considering its price point, ingredients, and overall blah-ness in flavour. The shop next door is adorable though and definitely worth browsing through, just stop somewhere else to eat
