From the time I made a reservation several months ago to checkout on August 3rd,the "Bower Experience" exceeded our expectations! When I first called I was able to actually speak to someone! Danny ( Guest experiences Supervisor) went way above and beyond describing the rooms and insuring that we chose the best room for our stay. By the time we arrived Danny had continued to communicate and helped us develop a great vacation plan!
My husband and I were traveling for leisure for a 5 day trip to celebrate our 36th anniversary/ his birthday. I did a lot of "researching" where to stay in San Diego! The Del Coronado is an iconic attraction but I was looking for a more relaxing less crowded "touristy" place - Oh BOY! were we glad we found The Bower! The Del was beautiful but it definitely was far more crowded and busy with more of a "Disney resort feel" (pay $$$$ with a lot more big families, weddings, corporate events, and kids running everywhere). This is not meant to be negative , we love our kids! However, for this trip we were able to still enjoy everything at the Del and then go right back across the street to escape to a peaceful environment, with welcoming staff, and relax! The DIVE roof top bar was a great place where we could enjoy a cozy corner and great food and drinks.
Upon arrival the staff all treated us as though we were their only guests! Even the valets we encountered were always so welcoming, helpful, and genuinely friendly. When we first entered the doors the lobby had a great quiet relaxing overall feel. Definitely living up to its name! (Google BOWER! :) Michaela welcomed us in and talked to us about the hotel and our plans while we enjoyed a nice glass of wine in what they called the " living room" by an open air fire. She was so attentive , making another great first impression and setting the tone for our stay. We of course also had to brag to her a bit about how helpful Danny had been prior to our arrival! During our stay we learned this new boutique Hotel was formerly the Hotel Villa Capri. It has been beautifully renovated and sits directly across Orange Blvd from the Del Coronado. I personally loved all the design elements that gave it such a peaceful relaxing vibe! — but what truly made our stay unforgettable was the above and beyond hospitality from every team member we encountered.
From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel completely at home. We had everything we needed (and more). They provide umbrellas , beach chairs , towels, at no charge. Bikes also available to reserve for use as well! My advice is just ask!
In our room we had a lovely note regarding our anniversary with 2 nice Fellow stainless steel water bottles . While we waited for our luggage our favorite cocktail was delivered to our door by staff from the Dive ( The Bowers awesome rooftop bar! ). Apparently Danny had made great notes of our preferences!
Next , we met the General manager, Sean Murphy. We were again pleasantly surprised with Sean's welcoming demeanor, accessibility, and willingness to help us plan anything we wanted to do! Everything that was recommended by all of the staff we enjoyed!
We can't say enough about the team to be honest! I have to provide one more "shout out" to a gentleman (not sure his name) who was actually always busy vacuuming and cleaning. He saw me walk out of our room with an ice bucket one afternoon, stopped what he was doing and said he would take care of this for me! He promptly returned with a bucket of ice to our room. You don't typically find staff being aware and intentional like that!
Overall , It's just rare to experience this level of genuine personalized service — We observed how hard all of the staff work and truly care about the success of The Bower. It was a lovely place but it was the staff that truly turned a nice stay into an exceptional one! We traveled across the country from a place supposedly known for "Southern Hospitality " and felt as though we were welcomed "Home" 😊
Thank you Bower Family, for making our visit so special!
