15 Fall Foliage Getaways from NYC | Condé Nast Traveler

"Rustic‑meets‑upscale by design, this dreamy forest getaway at the vast, historic Eldred Preserve wraps sleek glass, wood, and stone around floor‑to‑ceiling windows that frame a colorful mountain backdrop. Rooms—whether stand‑alone cabins or sweet suites—feel spacious and nature‑forward with delicate oak and light palettes; days drift into starlit dinners at The Homestead beside a pond, farm‑to‑table plates in hand, and in fall I savor the on‑site comforts—country dining, those big windows, and in‑room fireplaces—amid trails, ponds, and the serene 65‑acre Sunset Lake." - Jessica Chapel

My husband and I spent the weekend here in mid-October without the kids (thank you, grandparents!) and had a really nice time. The hotel itself is beautiful and comfortable. The staff were all very attentive, but also casual, warm, and friendly in the best way. We stayed in a standard room with no deck, but still felt there were lots of places to sit and enjoy the weather and scenery. The beds were comfortable (the pillows almost too fluffy if that's possible) and the lighting, fan, and thermostat allowed us to keep the room very comfortable. The bathrobes were heavy and luxurious. The bathtub was glorious! I also really appreciated that the chef that handles the complimentary breakfast was able to accommodate my food allergy so I didn't have to have a sad granola bar from the bottom of my backpack. ||Sunrise Lake was beautiful. We walked around the whole thing twice, and I took one of the kayaks out one afternoon. Having that lake was really nice for us since all the other hiking trails we saw were at least a half hour drive (not insurmountable, but long if you're just looking for a quick walk). ||We would definitely come back here!

What a gem of a property! We had the place to ourself since we checked in on Columbus Day. The room was awesome and well appointed. The gym was perfect and very clean. The lady in the kitchen was very nice and told us about the path around the lake. The other lady who just got off a 3 day vacation never gave us an answer when we asked for a noon check out. When we loading our car at 11:25 my partners room key got deactivated. Lucky I was still in the room. Everything was perfect except for the communication about checking out. Will return and tell friends!

My sister and I just returned from the beautiful Bradstan hotel. This will be our third consecutive summer and every year just keeps getting better.||The property is breathtaking. You’re surrounded by natural beauty. Our room was nothing less than perfect, the pool was immaculate, our dinner at the Homestead was delicious and the breakfast choices were amazing. We truly felt like family. Everyone is so warm and welcoming. There’s only one thing we’ll do differently next summer… stay longer

We had an absolutely wonderful stay! The room was immaculate and incredibly comfortable, making it easy to relax and unwind. Breakfast was a true delight—hearty, delicious, and with a wide variety of options to suit every taste. I personally love cappuccino, so it would be lovely if there were a Jura or equivalent coffee machine to cater to that—but that’s just me being picky, and I can imagine it’s not easy to maintain such a balance.||The grounds are breathtaking and impeccably maintained, and it’s clear the owners must be true nature lovers—the plant life they nurture encourages bees to visit, which adds a wonderful, lively touch to the peaceful environment. Maintaining such beauty while balancing hospitality and cleanliness is no small feat. We especially loved having access to the private lake—paddleboating there was such a joy!||We were blessed with beautiful weather, which made enjoying the peaceful trails even more special. It was the perfect setting to practice mindfulness and truly disconnect. This stay was restorative in every sense—I can’t recommend it highly enough!

🌿 Peaceful Getaway Near White Lake I stayed two nights and loved the quiet, scenic location just 15 minutes from Bison and Bourbon. The suite was beautiful and impeccably clean—truly one of the cleanest hotel rooms I’ve experienced. The grounds are lovely, with a pool, workout gym,and a walking path around the lake (just note: the path isn’t stroller-friendly, so bring a baby carrier if needed). Kayaks are available too, which is a nice touch. EV drivers will appreciate the on-site chargers—they worked perfectly with the Tesla adapter that comes in the trunk. Service was friendly and laid-back; not pampering, but pleasant. They mentioned a spa is in the works, which could really elevate the experience. Overall, I’d definitely return—especially in winter—and highly recommend it if you’re looking for a peaceful, beautiful escape.

A Perfect 15/10 — Our Home Away From Home||This was our 3rd sister trip in a row to The Bradstan/Eldred Preserve, and before we even left, we booked our 4th! I truly don’t know where to begin…||||The grounds are pristine and spectacular — with beautiful walking paths that lead to a gorgeous lake where we paddle boated every day. Walking around the lake is equally breathtaking, with chairs thoughtfully placed along the route to take in the sunrise or sunset. Every detail feels intentional and beautiful.||||The rooms are on another level. We stayed in a lodge room with two queens — it felt like home, but elevated. A beautiful balcony view, a bathroom with heated towels — every detail was thought of. The pool and jacuzzi were wonderfully relaxing and perfectly maintained.||||The food? Also another level. Whether at the bar, restaurant, ordering lunch, or enjoying the beautiful breakfast spread — everything was fresh, delicious, and left you wanting seconds.||||But the heart of The Bradstan/Eldred Preserve is the people — and this is the reason we keep coming back. Irvin and Marque at the front desk are simply the BEST. Warren makes sure everything is working perfectly and always greets you with kindness. Louis, a young man who spends his summers working here, is a true gentleman. We can’t forget Scott and Eddie — who make all the magic happen and make you feel like family. And then there’s Steve, who may or may not work at The Eldred, but is always a fixture at breakfast — making my sister and me laugh and smile every morning.||||Scott and Eddie— my sister and I can’t wait to make more memories here, and to bring our families and children to experience this special place.||||So, long story short… The Eldred Preserve is a 15 out of 10 in every way!||||xoxox,||Barbara

The Bradstan is a breath of fresh air in the Catskills. There is nothing like it in the area - pristine grounds, hotel is immaculate, modern, and the amenities are top notch. I agree with a previous reviewer that the food is standard. The buffet breakfast is great, but the chef at the restaurant uses a heavy hand. More healthy options would be appreciated. The negative? I was told the previously advertised "complimentary" shuttle to Bethel Woods would cost $25 per person - OK, then I was told there were not sufficient takers so they would not be running. I felt this was a bit of bait and switch. Staff is friendly and helpful but could use more training. All told, I would recommend.

This place is amazing. Everyone was so nice. The entire staff was friendly and helpful. The rooms are very clean and over the top as far as comfort. I highly recommend this hotel. I plan to go back. The secluded setting is so relaxing. What brought us to this hotel was a trip to Woodstock. What made us not want to leave the hotel was the beautiful setting and comfort. The breakfast was also amazing. Great place to get away, kick back and relax.

Yelp
This is definitely pricier than any place I would typically stay. However, I was invited to speak an event here and they offered to pay for the room. it was gorgeous. The room had a lot of little extras that were really cool like a heated towel rack and floor in the bathroom. It's right on a little stream/thing. Plus you can walk to their private lake if you want more water time. One of the workers told me that you can borrow a boat in the summertime, but we were too early for that. This would be a great place to go if you want to feel fancy or if you want to give someone the gift of feeling fancy. Customized continental breakfast was part of the room price. Pictures include dinner over at the restaurant. You will be tempted to buy the fresh cinnamon raisin bread and then you will be disappointed that it gets stale so fast but then you will know to create French toast with it when you get home and all your disappointment will flee!

Yelp
The Bradstan Boutique Hotel is a beautiful and well run oasis in Sullivan County's Eldred Preserve. The hotel is newly built in a way that blends beautifully with the surroundings. The rooms are large, comfortable and extremely well appointed. The entire hotel is laid out in a way that makes optimal use of the property, providing privacy and quiet as well as common areas in which to gather. Outside, there are plenty of places spread out on the property to exercise and/or relax. The fitness center is large and well equipped. The pool is a fantastic centerpiece on the property and rivals any high end luxury boutique setting I have ever experienced. Scott and Eddie are true professionals and run the place with professionalism and expertise. Attention to detail is next level throughout the establishment from the towels to the bed linens to the coffee and of course the food. The complimentary breakfast is plentiful, delicious and generous. Don't worry about where you will have lunch. Trust me, you won't be hungry. If you want the best BBQ on earth, go find Big Kev on White Lake. Ask for restaurant reservations from anybody at the hotel and you can't go wrong. The Eldred Preserve offers something for everyone, from lakeside running/hiking/walking trails, wildlife, water sports and all of nature's beauty. There's a casino nearby and lots of quaint little towns. Bethel Woods is also nearby. We saw Steve Miller Band in what is now one of my top 3 favorite venues. Outdoors but covered. Fun. New. Clean. Lots of food and drink options. A spa is coming but if you want a massage in the meantime, ask the desk to connect you with Diane. It will change your life. All and all, this has been one of the best vacations ever.

Yelp
This rating is based on price for a cabin. Beautiful landscape. You will not have anywhere on the premises to have lunch except Saturday/Sunday brunch. There is no valet if you are needing assistance with bags. Good luck if you call the front desk to receive "no answer". Dining here is average and don't recommend the seafood (double cooked) or pork (tough/dry). Pool is great. Some staff is kind but they need hospitality training. The design concept is great but the management/owner needs to follow up with service or it will fall apart.

Yelp
We can not say enough accolades on the beauty of the grounds and the accommodations are amazing. The restaurant design is beautiful as well. It is an unexpected "Paradise" in Sullivan County. We stayed twice. One room the first time, three rooms the second, for Thanksgiving. Issue: The partners who "run" The Bradstan. You have one who is accommodating and personable who was very prevalent the first visit. On the most recent visit however it was the other partner, Mr. Samuelson when I brought 11 of my family members for the holidays, he was the extreme opposite. So uncomfortable that three of my younger grandkids asked during breakfast "why is he so mean, did we do something wrong?". I noticed that on each and every occasion that the partner as mentioned, was around, the demeanor and mood of the guests around him changed. My take is the "investor's" would want to create an atmosphere where you want to return. Where your recommendations are an important part of doing successful business. Not only for the accommodations but as a venue for celebrations in this beautiful venue as well. Small time thinking and actions might have worked at the previous Bradstan Country Hotel but The Bradstan is not smalltime anymore and should rise to the level of the patrons it expects and needs to be long lived and successful. The Bradstan is new, so growing pains are to be expected. The assistant manager Irvin does a great job considering his tutelage. The desk staff during both stays were always helpful if not completely knowledgeable. I have no problem with that. My problem is that we found a place we wanted to call home away from home but how can you return to a place that so outwardly, through its "manager" shows a total disregard for its patrons. Great place, nice people but do you return to, refer friends, consider use of the venue when the manager shows such a lack of hospitality or any type of appreciation for your patronage.

Yelp
We celebrated the New Year and stayed overnight. We booked a standard room which was extraordinary. The comfort, cleanliness, and amenities were so much more than standard. The evening began with passed hors-d'oeuvres and then a prime rib, seafood, and pasta to order. All outstanding the quality and presentation were magnificent. The staff from check in, the bar, to wait staff are so friendly and professional. The open bar and toast at midnight added to the fun of the evening. Just when you thought you would bust dessert and bagels with all the fixings. We had a really fun time. The entertainment began with a great cabaret style show and then a DJ to get everyone dancing. I wouldn't wait til New Year. The food offering and beauty of this hotel is a jewel in Sullivan County and would make any occasion special.

Yelp
This place is not worth the money. There is ongoing construction and not all amenities listed on the website (massages, bike riding, etc) are available. The staff provided next to no recommendations in the area, and instead just directed us to some local pamphlets. When we complained we were told that we were solely paying for our room, so shouldn't be bothered about the rest. The customer service and arrogance/dismissiveness is appalling. Further, when we asked for the hotel to arrange a car service for for a few hours one day, we were told that none could be found; however, after doing 5 minutes of our own research, we quickly found a service. In addition, there appear to be no COVID precautions being taken, as no one is required to show proof of vaccination or wear a mask. The breakfast is also not worth even $5, with only a few plates of food available that people take from as they wish. So, if you're solely looking to stay in your room and be your own concierge service, this place is for you; otherwise, you can do better elsewhere.

Yelp
This is an amazing architectural wonder for a hotel. I had a mini suite with 20 foot high floor to ceiling windows and such detailed amenities as electronic sheers and shades to open and close them along with heated floors in the bathroom. To be sure you were aware of all the features of the room, the check-in person accompanied you to the room and explained each amenity. The grounds are like a Japanese garden that, if asked, you would happily pay an admission fee for. There are paver lined paths through the grounds, bridges over streams, impressive hand hewn rock walls forming terraces and newly planted shrubbery interspersed with the stately pine trees that originally adorned the property. The Homestead restaurant is also an architectural home run. It is on 2 levels with an upstairs bar that overlooks the gardens and the restaurant on the ground level with abundant indoor and outdoor dining. The menu is excellent and the wait staff very helpful with your selection. Can't wait to return.
