The Breakers Hotel

If you want an old hotel Hawaiian experience this is it. Rooms around pool have louvers to open and shut to let the trade winds blow thru your room. If your a light sleeper it can be noisy, so suggest bringing earplugs.There is air conditioning. The lanai is quite roomy and carpeted. Bathroom is fair sized with a nice shower. It does take awhile for the hot water to reach the shower. There is a safe in the room. I found there to be plenty of closet space and dresser space. The room was spacious with an small apartment kitchen furnished with all your needs. Bars of soap are provided, however bring your own shampoo, conditioner and lotions. The pool is spacious and has many tropical flowers and trees around it. The sun shines on it from 8am to 6pm. I rate it second best in all of Waikiki. You will find you use old fashioned key and when you leave property you leave key with front desk staff. The front desk staff are fantastic!!They have a couple resident cats. The building was built 54 years ago. It does have a few condition issues, some painting needed, some wallpaper repairs but nothing that would hinder your vacation. There is daily maid service. There is no elevator, buildings are only 2 floors and there are 6 of them. There is a laundry room coin operated with 1 each of washer and dryer. The location is great for any activities. My final thoughts: This is an antiquated hotel with a unique experience to be had. It is not for everybody. If you want a 5 star hotel experience this isn’t it!! However, if you want a true authentic Hawaiian experience this is it!! I have stayed a multiple locations in Waikiki and have rebooked for next year.

Awesome hidden gem in the heart of Waikiki. The service from check in to check out was excellent. If showing up early in the morning call ahead as they may be able to have a room available upon arrival. Showed up early as the flight came in ahead of schedule. Free coffee available all day to guests. If your an avid fan of felines they have a resident cat on site that will greet you as you make your way to and from the hotel. The front desk staff are phenomenal and keep the hotel in immaculate shape. It's a 2.5 star barebones orginal Hawaiian hotel but the hospitality and cleanliness are worthy of 5. Can wait to visit again and bring the family along.

I’m a long time customer of The Breakers and always enjoy our annual stay at this venerable hotel. We had our month long stay in April/May and met up with a lot of regulars and made new friends. As always we had a wonderful time and the staff treated us like family. We will keep coming back. This review is in part a rebuttal to a previous reviewer who said he/she was treated badly and security was called and said, “ Never Again”. What was the review for? Wasabi Bistro or The Breakers? If a good time was had at Wasabi then “Never again” sounds contradictory. And that phrase cannot be directed at the hotel because he/she didn’t stay there! Plus there isn’t security at the hotel. When walking through the hotel grounds, Wasabi patrons are asked to respect the hotel guests and conduct themselves in a civilized manner. As on any hotel property. Is it possible the blame lied on themselves?

Horrible customer service. Old female host at the front greated us horrible. We weren't even staying at the hotel. There is a lovely Japanese restaurant on the property which we were going to have dinner at. We had a lovely dinner. Leaving we were waiting at the front gate by the curb for our Uber talking amongst ourselves, she called security. 9pm while just waiting for our Uber. Horrible miserable human being who is affiliated with this hotel. Never again

Charming, charming, charming…location is perfect, bus stop at your door, car rental next door, laundry machines at that back Yes the rooms are dated but the staff are lovely, the restaurant is good and everything is spotlessly clean. It’s a wonderful place to stay.

When we go back to Waikiki we will definitely stay at the Breakers again. The staff was very nice, helpful and hospitable, even the cats. A refreshing old Hawaiian feel and oasis in Waikiki and 3 min walk to the Beach. The Rooms and ambience are very comfortable. The pool is very clean and comfortable to relax around. Hot coffee in the lobby.

This is my favorite Waikiki hotel. I'm from the outer islands so I've stayed at A LOT of the hotels in Honolulu over the years. But now I only book at the Breakers. I love the vintage feel and the amenities. Even the smaller rooms have fridges, stove tops, dishes, and utensils. And you can't beat the location! Also I love the resident hotel cats that hang out in the common areas during daylight hours.

The rooms are outdated, but I understand why. Breakers have repeat visitors who go there annually. Some have been going for 20+ years. It’s affordable for retirees who stay often for a month and more. The staff and Ethel( manager) are more than accommodating. They are OHANA! The Breakers is OHANA and are visited by celebrities and highly educated people. It’s a place where we all go and feel like we’re part of the family. It’s an old Hawaiian treasure buried in the middle of busy Waikiki. We like to keep it a secret.
