The Brecon is an amazing place to stay, not only because the inner design pays an uncompromising homage to a modern interpretation of midcentury design, but mostly because the staff’s commitment to providing excellent hospitality to the guests. Nothing was too small or too great to ask for, they tried to make everything possible and they were always friendly, attentive and professional. They are an exceptional team on all levels.
The Rooms:
Our loft room, The Village, was amazingly beautiful! The only improvement that could be made is that there is practically no closet or drawer space to store clothes if you want to unpack for a longer stay.
We were also able to sneak a peak at the very Cosy Mountain room which was also lovely, albeit very cosy indeed, but with huge windows directly across from the bed overlooking the mountains.
The Spa:
The spa is "klein und fein“, small but very nice. While it can accommodate only a few people at a time comfortably, a suggestion to ensure a calm environment might be to let guests reserve one hour a day, letting max 4 or 6 people use the facilities at one time.
The All Inclusive Fare:
Breakfast is wonderful, there’s a small egg menu to order from the open kitchen, plus a selection of muesli, yogurt, jams, bread and pastries.
The included wine and beverage selection is very high quality. The wines are hand picked to feature smaller Swiss and European wineries. Martina made a new selection every night of red and white wines, and if nothing was to the taste of the guests, she would find you something else. There‘s a non-alcoholic and standard cocktail list with huge selection of top shelf spirits, as well as free flowing champagne offered all day.
There’s a lovely teatime served around 15.00 with sandwiches, tea, and absolutely heavenly cakes and pastries made in house by the pastry chef.
I found everything impeccable at The Brecon besides the dinner menu, which was not to my taste, consistently heavy and carb dense with very little protein. The ingredients were all high quality, mostly vegetarian, but I wouldn’t categorize the choices for the dinner menu as "healthy“. I would actually prefer something more casual than a sit down 4 course and would welcome a lighter and healthier family style dinner, sharing plates or a mezze/tapas concept that is more protein and fiber forward than carbs and fat. The chefs, however, do everything they can to accommodate guest’s dietary preferences. I am sure they would have prepared anything we wanted, but on holiday it was too much effort for me to challenge the dinner menu every night with special requests.
Adelboden
We were really impressed with this authentic Swiss town! The ski resort(s) aren’t super easy to navigate or get around, they take a bit more effort than other places we’ve been, but we pretty much only heard Swiss German on the slopes. Our ski teacher was also one of the best we’ve ever had at any ski resort. The hotel is about a 5 minute walk to a short gondola that takes you to the main gondola. When the staff wasn’t too busy, they offered to shuttle us to the main lift which was 6 star service.
A personal thanks to Lea, Martina, Frederic, Adrian, Mattia, Daniel, Sarah, Cristina and Marta plus all of the other team members who we didn’t get to know who work so hard to bring The Brecon to its highest potential. We would be honored to stay with you again!
(A side note about the staff uniforms: The young & beautiful staff looks like they are wearing sloppy pajamas that shrunk 2 sizes in length in the first wash. I know cool style when I see it and those uniforms are not it. For a "design hotel“, these uniforms just look totally out of place in an otherwise perfectly procured aestheticly pleasing environment.)
