On the Grid : The Bricks

"A popular hangout among Ybor goers, The Bricks is a cool corner bar/sandwich shop owned by the Skate Park of Tampa. They’ve got it all from coffee and music to food and drinks including specials every day. There’s plenty of space to spread out between the inside bar, back private room, and outside patio area (with some awesome wall art). If you stop by, ask for liquid heroin and their mac and cheese or literally anything else on their menu because it’s all good." - Harbr Co.

Stopped in on our way home to Orlando and I can’t wait to go back! The Ahi BLT was amazing and the espresso lemonade was surprisingly delightful. The vibe is on point and our server and everyone else we came in contact with were wonderful.

Great ambience and food . It’s a cool place full of music and friendly people. The best part is that they have vegan options!

Came here to see a friend perform a gig out the back in their courtyard was an amazing evening.

My boyfriend and I tried this place for the first time and absolutely fell in love with it! Kyle was our bartender/server and we could not have been luckier to have him! He made excellent suggestions, was very knowledgeable on the history of different drinks, and at the end of our visit we even had him make us a drink with his own twist on it! It turned out sooo good! Josh was also super friendly, and Devin and Marley make the best food! The menu is the perfect size with super unique food selections, so that was really nice to see too. We will definitely be back and are so glad we found this place!

Google
This would be a regular spot for me if I was local. The food was incredibly underrated in my opinion. The food was so good I was amazed there wasn’t a wait for a table. Both bartenders were excellent in suggestions and recommendations.

Google
Nice atmosphere,.. Great menu with lots of handhelds and finger foods that are shareable. Nice mocktails and drinks. Fun vibe friendly staff.

Google
The food and drinks were great! Our server was very kind and fast. He came to our table of 6 people multiple times asking if we like the food and checking if we needed anything. Tacos & bowls are delicious! The place opens late and it has tables available. It’s not just a bar.

Google
Great place, small menu but excellent choices, very tasty, Hostess/Server on 1/8 Wednesday night, sorry I forgot your name, was awesome and super friendly. Amazing atmosphere

Yelp
This is one of my favorite spots in ybor!! The bird and pig sandwich is always a good choice! The pacific rim is also quite tasty as is the ahi tuna bowl! You can't really go wrong here

Yelp
Happy hour is where it's at!! Regular prices are a bit much, but you can't beat a $4 well or $5 draft! Chill vibe, seemed like a nice place for locals and also for those like us, who came from out of town to see a show at the Ritz! Staff was super attentive, checking in multiple times to make sure we didn't need a new drink or want to order food. Around 5:30 things get a little dark and moody. The staff shut the lights out put or candle to get ready for the night life. Cute and subtle switch up, but it makes a big difference. We didn't order food personally, but the smells were smellin' in the best of ways! The table in front of us had two women, one ordered some kind of salad and the other ordered nachos. The nachos looked amazing and I did notice that the woman eating them did not finish the bowl, so they definitely could have been shared. If we end up here again the Nachos will be at the top of our list!

Yelp
Exceeded my expectations. Food was delicious, I had the bird and pig sandwich. My date liked her dish also. Service was great. There late on a Wednesday, not crowded. Price of the meal was very affordable.

Yelp
Not many food options. I saw a review for Florida Strawberry shortcake and it looks delicious. So I ordered it and it turned out not to be the same. Would not recommend. I felt like it was a waste of money. It was literally Sara Lee poundcake with strawberry preserves. I could've made it at home.

Yelp
Was visiting Ybor for a show and discovered this corner restaurant for Happy Hour. It was very nice on the inside and spacious, with kind service as well. The Happy Hour was from 4pm-7pm everyday which is a blessing and features $4 wells, $5 select drafts and house wines. While there there was not a $5 draft at first but the waitress talked to the manager and got one selected since happy hour was happening. We did not order food, but the food smelled and looked good. The only complaint really is that it is a bit pricey for certain things(exception being Happy Hour of course). But I do recommend trying it!

Yelp
Found this place on Yelp and it looked like my kind of place. Exterior is very hip looking. Inside is the same. Nice vibe and atmosphere. It was seat yourselves, so we did. Took a while for anyone to acknowledge us and that theme would continue throughout our visit. Maybe it's because we didn't order alcohol? I don't know. The menu is extremely limited. Not much at all to choose from. There's a picture on their Yelp page that shows a much more extensive menu and that was a factor in us choosing this place. Maybe it's an old picture or it's there in error? Who knows. But it wasn't the menu we were given so be aware. We ordered chips and guacamole as an appetizer and it was very good. We also ordered a rice bowl and an apple/bacon/brie/something sandwich. Each of these were also good. The food overall was pretty good. As mentioned above, the service was very slow. Not much interaction with the waiter at all. Didn't ask what side we wanted. Just poor overall service, which should be the easiest part. Anyway, had high hopes for this place but due to the very limited menu and poor service, we most likely won't be back.

Yelp
Was invited to meet with a friend for the end-of-the-year party there...had a great time. The vibe was good. The music was good as well... karaoke out on the porch it was hilarious. I loved seeing the different types of artwork that were displayed and overall environment was very nice. I will go back and will highly recommend.

Yelp
High prices for cheap store bought grocery items. The tuna nachos use cheap Tostitos bagged chips and Tostitos cheese. But are $18!! WHAT?? My friend also said they were made wrong: They should come with other sauces to make it more oriental that go with tuna, Not just tuna and some cheese in a jar. The chicken tacos lacked flavor. We were given a handful of Tostitos chips with the tacos but nothing to dip them in lol. Brie also lacked flavor. I requested my taco sauce on the side and was not givin it. So I had to flag the server down to ask for it. Had to ask for salt and pepper because they also don't keep that on the table and he didn't care to give us any. He was definitely not friendly and didn't care to be there.... none of us will be back

Yelp
Spent the weekend moving our son to Tampa and decided to find this restaurant that I enjoyed over 8 years ago while working in Tampa. Atmosphere was amazing, service was great, and food was wonderful as it should be!

Yelp
Just a cool place to chill, great people and some really good food. Art and live music makes it all the more fun!

Yelp
Angela is amaze balls, she is so quick and accurate with her service . The ambiance is cool and there is room for a whole dance battle . I've only had the nachos but I'd come back for them. It's been an enjoyable experience so far and I wish for more .
google avatar

Laura T.

Yelp
My friends and I were going to a dance concert at HCC in Ybor and decided to catch a bite prior to the show. This place was right down the street so we walked over. It was a Friday night and the place looked like it was just getting started. We were told to sit wherever we liked. We did. Our waiter was a fabulous young man with the greatest hair! He told us it was happy hour and everyone took his advice on the cocktails. I found what looked like a dream of a meal called the Bird & Pig. It was a sandwich on a Hawaiian bun with everything I love on top, brie, honey, apple, chicken and bacon. Give it a try. My friends both were on a tuna kick. One ordered the Ahi tuna BLT, the other had the tuna turn up. They both loved their meals. I was so glad we went to this place because the inside and outside are a great discovery. They do catering and events in addition to regular happy hours and games. Go to the website to see what I mean.

Yelp
The bricks is a cool spot. It's at the end strip of ybor so it's no in the middle of the hustle and bustle. I sat at the bar, the service was great, the food was pretty tasty. It's a nice place to go before you hit the ybor strip and start drinking!
google avatar

Rebecca B.

Yelp
The menu seemed appealing to all, except my kids were not enthusiastic. But we had chips amd guac and tacos, some nachos ... just a smattering of stuff. It was all good. Our server was great - very accommodating. I think it would be better without kids.
google avatar

Yelp
Typical sports bar, nothing that makes it stand out from any other sports bar honestly. The location is pretty convenient and it has plenty of indoor/outdoor seating. Fun spot to grab a drink and watch games/fights as there are plenty TVs. The food is pretty good, again, typical sports bar food but it's good! Just a warning.... the mozzarella sticks are GIANT logs. My bf and I ate them before our meal and honestly we were pretty full from all the cheese. Otherwise they are really tasty :D

Yelp
Awesome food and staff.. Superior drink crafters. Even had a coffee the next day with vanilla, honey, lavender. Soo good!
google avatar

Yelp
Great food great drink and great prices! I love it for a good afternoon snack and drink or a good first spot before you party on the strip. Great bartenders too who know their stuff.

Yelp
Came here while in town over the holidays. The food was pretty good, staff was friendly. Not busy during lunchtime.

Yelp
If you're anywhere near Roslyn, WA make certain to try The Bricks. The building has been around since 1889 and here's no denying the authenticity when you are inside. We had wings and two drinks. I would suggest asking for a sample of the local cider. I ordered the one on tap today, it was pineapple hard cider which I have had and liked before but this was rough. It was still sitting f there when I left. The wife had a high noon. The wings were really good

Yelp
Service was great, food was fantastic. Perfect location to grab a bite before Improv Comedy Show. Love finding gems like this in Ybor! We will be back = )

Yelp
Back from the dead, The Bricks rises like the phoenix from the ashes of Covid. I've been keeping an eye on this place for a while now. They are open again! The menu has been chopped down to a manageable size. The staff is almost all new but the vine is the same. I came on a friday night early, like 7pm and they were kinda slow. Sat at the bar and ordered a bartender special, ask them what their best drink is and let them make it. I got a tiki type drink with mezcal that didn't have a name. It was pretty good and I liked the dehydrated lime, nice touch. I ordered the bird and pig sammich, i just saw honey and brie. It was fantastic, i ate every bite. The cabbage slaw was decent but I'd pick something else next time. They have coffee, full bar and creative meal ideas for a decent price. What else can you ask for in Ybor? Do yourself a favor, be the brick just waiting for a window to smash!

Yelp
Always yummy! Pretzel bites were delicous and the nachos yummy! Thanks Brian, xo Aliciakeys

Yelp
Came here for a quick stop while we waited for our hotel to be ready. Nice little vibe in here. The playlist is off the chain, and the staff is super friendly. Ordered the Original Sin Hard Cider. Super crisp, and light. For an app I went with the black bean hummus. Exceeded my expectations for sure. This place deserves to be packed on the weekends. No stone unturned.
google avatar

Yelp
So happy they've opened again! I've been coming here since this place first started. It is now a staple in the ybor community. A great selection of beers and spirits. Great atmosphere. Unique food options. What's more to love? Hopefully they start doing more events like they used to. With covid everything is kinda up in the air at this point. Had their classic Bird and Pig. This sandwich has gone through many iterations but it's gotten better with every one. They have great bowls too! Kung Fury and add pickled red onions will do you just right! They have great specials as well but you gotta be quick to get them because supplies never lasts lol! Thanks for all you guys do :)
google avatar

Yelp
Have always passed by this place but glad I finally came in. They pretty much have everything here, coffee, drinks, lunch, brunch, music. Staff was very friendly, and very helpful about what to order. Place is cool and clean, with clean bathrooms...rare in Ybor. Drinks were spot on, and presented well. Even the coffee drink with dessert was just right. Great prices too if you're here for just some drinks. Bar area seating, indoor seating, and an outdoor back patio. This queso is the best I've had. Even compared to the Mexican restaurants I've been too. Tacos were assembled and put together just right, seasoned and tasting just right. Pork sandwich assembled and presented well. Plate cleaned. To finish it all off, strawberry shortcake. Light, airy, not too sweet. Hope to be back soon. I really want to even pick up some queso to bring home.

Yelp
Perfect place to have a casual dinner with excellent cocktails. I had a rice bowl with pork - it was tasty and fresh. Neighborhood restaurant feel - did not feel rushed. It is a great place to go to take a break from Ybor City hubbub.
google avatar

Wesley B.

Yelp
This place has probably the best food in Ybor--my favorites are definitely the Kung Fury and The Rooster. They're both equally amazing--very interesting flavors that you don't get anywhere else. My only negative is that the service is a bit lacking. I have literally come in, sat down and been ignored for 30 minutes. BUT I still come back, that's how good the food is.
google avatar

Nikita H.

Yelp
This unassuming bar is on the far end of 7th ave in ybor. It's the kind of place you go regularly with friends to shoot the s**t. The drinks are pretty tasty. It's exactly what you'd expect at happy hour prices but it gets you where you need to be. I had the shrimp option on the happy hour menu. I believe it was a taco but I had it put on a salad instead. I've been thinking about this salad all week. It's incredibly delicious and the shrimp was seasoned very well. It also wasn't rubbery, that's always good. The waitstaff was always there right when I needed them but not in a badgering way (thank goodness) and they have great suggestions.

Terry C.

Yelp
This was an awesome place! Shout out to Brian who made us feel welcomed! We came from out of town and needed a place for 14 people who understood gluten free. We were celebrating 3 family birthdays and going on a cruise the next day. The staff was great, menu was really good, the place was nice, clean and fun!
google avatar

Clayton L.

Yelp
Good food, Pretty good drinks. Happy hour isn't really a thing, tho. We went at 5pm during the week expecting $5 wine and $2 off shareables. That wasn't the case. The bartender made it right, but just know that it doesn't seem like HH is really a thing here.

Yelp
3 stars for me - I was going to give them 2 stars because previously I got BIRD & PIG (2/5): It was pitiful & I couldn't eat it. I didn't send it back to the kitchen, even though I should have - it was really basic, dry and not flavorful or good at all. CHICKEN SALAD BLT WRAP (3/5): A simple mixture of chicken salad - a good amount of it. LOADED MARY (2.5/5): If you're going to charge $8, please get on Datz, Roux & Ella's Cafe level where they have one of the best bloody mary mixtures. You get a slice of pickle and cheese for a couple bucks more for a "loaded" version compared to $6 - nopppee & don't upgrade. MIMOSA (3/5): Thank goodness there were some bubbles in it - great pour, I approve for $4! CHEDDAR GRITS (3/5): For $3, just fine with light cheddar mixed in with grits. NITRO COLD BREW (4/5): Velvety smooth and delish! The verdict? The portions were good for Chicken Salad BLT. The Asian Slaw had some sesame oil in it & it def. needed salt. I am not excited about this place coupled with slow service. I'm really sorry, but my taste buds are always so bored with how flavorless everything tastes...por favor, please at least put some salt and pepper shakers on the tables!

Yelp
We had tickets to see Built to Spill at The Orpheum on Friday, Oct. 11 and since Ybor is a bit of a ride, we took full advantage of our visit by grabbing a quick bite and checked out La France beforehand. I had heard about The Bricks because of their FB events - I'm dying to go to Goth Brunch but alas, have nobody to go with. Based on photos and reviews, it was so nice finding a place where I felt like I fit in. So tired of the lame sports and redneck bar scene near my home - this was such a welcome change of scenery - like being back in NYC circa the late '80s or '90s. There was even a DJ spinning my old faves from The Beastie Boys and New Order. Who's There? Due to all of the good reviews, I was actually worried we'd have to wait to get inside, no wait at all - yet not awkwardly empty. Just the right about of well-behaved, cool kids of all ages - I finally didn't feel like the oldest person there. Menu Options I don't drink so it was a boring Arnold Palmer for me ... We were hesitant to fill up before a concert, so we opted for apps. My friend's not a big meat eater, nor am I, so we decided on the chips and queso and a cheese, nut and fruit plate. Both were delicious, however you know the deal with fruit plates - never enough crackers or "vehicles" to deliver the cheese to your big ole mouf. We managed okay though. Everything tasted fresh and the prices were fair. Such Great Service Our waitress was super sweet and attentive. She stopped by several times to check on us and refill our soft drinks.

Yelp
Excellent food and location, great staff and atmosphere! Very nice, highly recommended, see Christina an Vern! PBR's 16oz, perfect!

Yelp
Great options for gluten free and non gluten free diners. I was in town for a concert and wanted to grab some food beforehand. My husband and I sat at the bar and shared the bricklayer nachos which were awesome. I loved the spin on traditional nachos with queso, jalepeno aioli and black bean corn relish. I opted for the shrimp tacos for my entree which were made gluten free by swapping out flour tortillas for corn, I loved the crunch of the asian slaw. We ordered a couple double Titos which were fairly expensive but strong. I had a yelp offer for a free coffee which somehow disappeared but the nice server gave it to us anyway. There must have been a better way to park, we used the public lot a street over and was $15 plus a pain to use the machine to pay. I saw a garage nearby, that may have been better but being from out of town we just went with what was closest. Great experience overall and we would surely come back!

Phil C.

Yelp
I am immunocompromised and requested an isolated table outside. The restaurant had the perfect table in the far corner of the patio. Food and service were also excellent. Watched the partial solar eclipse from the patio as did our server.

Yelp
Vernon knows what he is doing with those drinks. Plus, shrimp tacos are on point. Chill place.

Yelp
Cool casual eatery/bar in Ybor City that claims to make all their items in house except for the bread. Visited on 1-11-19 at 6PM. Finding a parking spot was difficult as there is street parking only and about 8 coveted spots within a 25 foot radius of the place. $39.76 got us one adult entree, two appetizers, and two sides. Service was fast and friendly. The ambiance is what I would call "broken-in-hipster" because the brick walls and industrial features probably looked very cool 10 years ago but now it just feels comfortable. I had the $8 bricklayer nachos which came with corn tortilla chips, pickled jalapenos, queso, salsa, and a black bean/corn relish. If they're gonna claim they make everything in house I'll go ahead and pick em' apart and say these chips were from a bag. The salsa was watery and made the middle section of chips soggy and cold. Not something I would order again but it wasn't horrible. It's really hard to f*ck up nachos. My dear sweet beloved husband had the $15 "tuna BLT" sandwich which came with lightly seared raw tuna, bacon, swiss, tomato, mixed greens, honey mustard, and toasted hawaiian bread. He got to choose one side and he chose the quinoa which is cold and under seasoned. He said the tuna was room temperature, had no seasoning, thick cut, and pretty much the same texture as all the other ingredients in the sandwich so it was like eating a raw mushy fishy meatball. He started gagging about halfway through the sandwich but we are not the type of people to complain. He choked it down. For the kiddo we ordered a side of mac n' cheese and a side of fruit since this place ostentatiously doesn't have a kid's menu. The macaroni was under cooked and very dry. If there was any cheese sauce to begin with I don't know where it went. But the pineapples and blueberries were fresh and delicious. If you're a burgeoning 20-something who just happens to be walking down the street and you get a hankering for a craft cocktail and some hummus you're gonna love this place. I, however, am a skeptical suburban mom and while I can appreciate what they're doing here, I did not enjoy the food and would not go back. I'm too old for this shit.

Yelp
The food was delicious as well as the service 10/10 I would highly recommend the ahi tuna sandwich!!

Yelp
This was a delightful little find. It was way above my expectations. The food was excellent. My husband and I had the Bird and Pig and the Pacific Rim. Both sandwiches were very tasty and the salad was fresh with a lovely citrus dressing. Even the chips and queso were outstanding. Not at all the quality we expected. Cloe our waitress took excellent care of us and the other employees were friendly and helpful. As a teacher I only had one complaint. The hostess was wearing a tee shirt with a very obscene phrase on it and there were children in the restaurant. I thought it unnecessary for a workplace environment and the reason I removed a star. I don't want to look at that. But if you're looking for excellent food. This place is highly recommended.

Yelp
Quick service, good food (especially salads) and excellent drinks! Go! Xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Yelp
Some of the slowest service I've ever received, but the food is good! We came here on Easter so we joked they let the A team have the day off. It was my friend's birthday and this was a good halfway point for us. The music is a little loud and the lighting is kind of dark (wow this makes me sound old), but they have a great selection of lunch/brunch items as well as drinks. I went with the Veggie Cuban. They actually had quite a few good veggie options. I don't eat pork and that seemed to be their meat of choice. On their website it said they had a veggie biscuit and gravy option so I was planning to get that, but it was nowhere to be found on their printed menu. I quickly changed gears and remembered reading that people from the veggie Cuban to be a good choice. After ordering five different sandwiches (there were five of us), we waited. And waited. And waited. It took at least half an hour for us to get our food (at one point I looked at my watch and it was 12:30 p.m. and we had ordered at 12 p.m.). I wasn't the only one who noticed because we had a whole conversation about it. It wasn't that the place was packed - it was about half full. We didn't make any changes on our orders. It was truly bizarre. The food itself was pretty good. It is on the smaller side, but it matches the price. If I was drinking, I would have had to get something in addition to the sandwich, but being only moderately full and not drinking, it filled me up. The Veggie Cuban has a strong pickle taste, which I enjoyed. I got to try my husband's Asian slaw and it was really good! It had a strong sesame oil taste. I got the potato salad and it was good also. Everything was very solid, but don't come here exceptionally hungry! Overall, I enjoyed my meal. It took a really long time to get it, but when it came it was good!

Yelp
Stopped in on a quiet Saturday for a quick bite, and happy I did. From the chips and guac to their mixed drinks, everything was tasty and fresh. Service was enjoyable and so was the environment. Give it a try - you won't be disappointed.

Yelp
I was hoping for a much better experience but unfortunately this establishment fell short. When we arrived we had few people at the bar and maybe one or two tables occupied. It was not busy at all, so my friend and I were able to get a table fast. After I finished up my phone call I sat down and my friend was already working on his drink. After that about 25 minutes rolled by and our female server never came back to start our order. Everyone was shooting the shit behind the bar and at one point she sat down to chat with co workers. I'm thinking maybe they're short staffed but not when there's hardly anyone in the joint. Shortly after another couple walked in and the male server jumped right in and took their order. Meanwhile, our server was nowhere to be found. No menus for us, only one drink and one glass of water. It was pretty bad. My friend doesn't easily get upset with horrible service, so once he said he's had enough, that's all she wrote. Since she never came over, he had to walk over to the bar to ask for the check. She told him she'd bring it over but he continued to stand there because we didn't need to wait any longer. She told him they didn't want anyone near the bar due to COVID, meanwhile there is three patrons sitting and drinking at the bar. Finally when she came over to give us the bill she had a look of confusion on her face when we just wanted to pay for the one lonely drink and leave. We told her it's been awhile but no apology, no nothing. Here's your bill and have a nice day. I thought businesses were hurting in Florida due to COVID, but I definitely do not feel bad for this place. I really hope you guys can polish up your service standards because 25 mins and no server doesn't seem like a long time but it could feel like an hour when you're hungry. Yelp
We had been here once before, two years ago and enjoyed the food and ambiance so figured we'd stop in tonight and see if it held up. Yes! The food was fresh, very tasty and large portions that made sharing easy. CJ was a fantastic server, always checking - made some nice suggestions. The n Bricklayer nachos were a mountain of corn tortilla chips, jalapenos, queso, salsa and black bean corn relish. Enough for a party of 4. The blackened shrimp pops boy was excellent as well. The cold brewed coffee surprised me, I didn't expect such a tasty blend (Kawah coffee). Worth stopping in.

Yelp
Nestled in the quaint and quirky neighborhood of Ybor is the bricks. I would describe this place as eclectic, and the flavors as unique in the best way possible. For example, my wife ordered for the first time a lemonade with a shot of espresso which was described to me as both sweet and energetic. A thunderbolt of sorts which left her electrified and full of life. I had a bowl option that had a base of quinoa as well as a tasty pork topping, avocado, and other Hispanic flair and flavor. It was light, refreshing, and filling. The inside is quite dark, but if you are afraid of this then there is also outside seating in the bright daylight. Parking is a bit of a challenge as you have to rely on the street being available, but I would not let this hold you back from experiencing some authentic and excellent Cuban cuisine.
