"In Water Valley I tried The B.T.C Grocery’s banana pudding—the perfect ratio of wafers to banana chunks—and loved how this small-town spot serves a nostalgic, down‑home version worthy of a road‑trip stop." - Arati Menon, Megan Spurrell

Eating at BTC Grocery is truly a treat! We went for the second time today. I had the Mississippi Heat Wave Cobb Salad and it was fantastic! My husband had the Shrimp Poe Boy and it was delicious as well. Everything there is incredibly fresh. Their fries at the best I have ever had! Everything on the menu looks amazing, I don’t think you can go wrong with what you order! Everyone who works there is super kind and welcoming. Be sure to check out the market before you leave!

Yelp
BTC has been on my wishlist to try for a while (I even own the cookbook) and my long awaited first visit did not disappoint! You walk into BTC and immediately notice casual seating, lots of locals, and amazing array of Mississippi-made food items and other farmers market staples and a chalkboard menu with a delicious list of specials for the day. After browsing all of the wares for sale, I placed my order at the front counter for their fried shrimp poboy and French fries. It was delicious! Everything our group ordered was fresh and tasty leaving nobody going hungry. I live hours away, but I will be going back!

Yelp
Alexe is wonderful. The food and service is superb. My husband and I popped in today for the first time and both had the Mississippi Heatwave Chicken Cobb Salad with the house made buttermilk Green Goddess dressing. Absolutely delicious! We're now back home enjoying a cup of coffee with beans roasted in house at BTC. Yum! You cannot go wrong stopping by this establishment. We're an hour away and it's 100% worth the drive.

Yelp
This is water valley's gem. Located about 20 mins from oxford, it's worth the drive. All the the sandwiches are incredible! Seriously, try them all! There's guaranteed to be something everyone loves. Their fries and onion rings are tasty and go great with a sauce they have. Don't forget to get a slice of pie or cake!

Yelp
IYKYK -- The BTC is the heart and soul of this town! I come here every time I visit my mom & it keeps getting better and better. Their lunch sandwiches are DELISH!!! And so are their breakfasts, so when they offer that you should go (but you probably already do :) This time we had the Traveler of the Valley sando, The turkstrami rueben, and of course fries with that dipping sauce! All excellent. Not only is their food yum yum yum, but their whole shop and offerings have a soul and spirit that make every item even more special.

Yelp
Absolutely fantastic food served in a very interesting building in a historic town. This place has an interesting dynamic with a restaurant, grocery, and thrift store all in the same building. I ate a half order of the "Big Momma's House" (cornbread pancake and country ham served over grits and hash browns) and had a nice fluffy pancake on the side. It was absolutely delicious, and I will definitely be coming back soon. After our meal, we had a great time walking through the downtown of Water Valley on a sunny Saturday morning.

Yelp
Delicious, every bit of it. I've tried almost every menu item from Dixie's Cafe, and everything is cooked to perfection. The menu changes seasonally if I understand correctly. The BTC grocery offers local and seasonal groceries and other items. Beware of the desserts. They're unbelievable. May I suggest the cheesecake and chocolate pie. We also love their subscription box, picked up on Thursdays, which is stocked with special items to cook with...last box included things like local eggs, dairy, mushrooms, greens, casseroles, etc. changes weekly.

Yelp
I had a very tasty sandwich here today. My background is that I grew up in New Orleans, lived in Nashville over 20 years and Portland, Oregon for 4 years. So, I've been around some good food. The turkey sandwich I had today would have gotten a maximum score in all of those urban centers, as it was fantastic I love what they are doing with this market, and it's obviously a labor of love. They are doing a great job, and I hope the community supports them, as they deserve success in this endeavor.

Yelp
Alexe and crew have this mastered! Everything is even better than we'd hoped it would be. Thanks for an awesome experience in Water Valley!

Yelp
This was SUCH a pleasure to find! I loved my autumn salad, it was full of rich ingredients that complimented each other well. I am charmed by the atmosphere here and will be back often to enjoy lunch!

Yelp
Old-Fashion indeed! Great selection of local beers AND BBQ Sauces plus an amazing food spot for lunch. Bottomline: If you're in Water Valley, stop in and check the place out. The atmosphere is awesome and you'll definitely find some great items to take home.

Yelp
Can't say a bad thing about this adorable cafe and grocery. Specialty items, fresh farm-to-table fare when in season, and a dang good biscuit and gravy. The owners have really made a great little place to stop in for coffee and breakfast or lunch, and find some specialty items you might not find on the shelves of the grocery store down the street. (since there is only one other grocery store in town.) Love the fact they have Zapp's chips, a specialty meat and cheese counter and year-round fresh vegetable offering from the local community. It's a great place for to sneak a peak at local color, a friendly smile and grab an amazing slice of Cora's Hummingbird Cake.

Yelp
A charming and unexpected restaurant and grocery in downtown Water Valley. As a resident of Oxford, MS, I would love to have something like this. Much of the produce is local, and the prices are very reasonable. Baked goods are delicious, there's even a meat and cheese fridge case. Also frozen casseroles and hormone-free, happy pork products. There's also a nice selection of local beers (what little we have), grains, dried fruits, and healing oils from MS folks. Breakfast is excellent (although 8-10 on weekends, so wake up early) and again, priced affordable for poor graduate students like me. The sausage gravy and biscuits were OUTSTANDING and definitely can be split between two people. Give this place your money instead of overpriced stuff in Oxford! And get a cookie on the way out.

Yelp
If anyone rates the BTC lower than 5 stars, they are liars of the worst variety! Every dish that Dixie and her kitchen staff serve is delicious! There are so few stores like this left, and it's a true gem! Most of the products are locally sourced or grown so it's grocery shopping you can feel good about (while also filling your belly). My only qualm is that they are only open a few days a week, but everyone needs a break! BTC is a true treasure, not just for Water Valley, but for all of Mississippi!

Yelp
BTC = "be the change." Charming small town store and eatery featuring local dairy and produce food items. We enjoyed a breakfast of grits, sausage, eggs, fresh made biscuits with house made jam. Very nice.

Michelle M.

Yelp
Great side trip on the way to Oxford. Cute store with some great specialty items. The take home frozen meals looked awesome - house made tamales, salmon, and other surprises. We split a Harker sandwich and small fries. Both were great - the sandwich was roast beef, havant, pickled onion, apples, and a blueberry horseradish sauce on fresh rustic bread. Yum. Fries were old school homemade. Theirs $19 lunch easily fed two. The desserts and sides for take home looked great too. We took some tex mex pimento cheese to go and it is fantastic - just spicy enough and not goopy with mayo. It's perfect on crackers. We will definitely back and may preorder for tailgates in the fall.

Yelp
What a darling place!! The menu is interesting and the food is delicious. BEST onion rings I've ever had. Ever. I was in Water Valley for work, and if I ever come back, I will definitely enjoy BTC again.

Yelp
What a great place. Big Momma House and The Finley Monkey. Gotta stop and meet the locals.

Yelp
Fried bologna sandwich was amazing. A must to try. The Dustin Rosie sandwich is a fried chicken sandwich also a must. Onion rings must get full basket to share.

Yelp
it's a good spot for breakfast! went there as a family before we departed to come back to Colorado and it was a great experience. The pancakes were phenomenal and the service was great. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Truly loved this place - lots of interesting items, case full of pre-made casseroles, a very charming and pretty little store with an eatery at the back and a great deli case. The sandwiches were yummy, and the hoop cheese I bought didn't last long. If I lived closer, I'd be a regular.

Katie B.

Yelp
What a great experience! I've eaten at B.T.C once for lunch and once for breakfast. Both times, the food, service, and atmosphere were superb. The place has so much charm---I love strolling around looking at all of grocery items while my food is prepared. The charm is backed up by some serious culinary talent; my food has been delicious both times I've been, and I can't wait to go back again.

Yelp
Has some of the harder-to-find items, such as King Arthur Bread Flour, various spices (often offered whole). Not a place where you can do your everyday grocery shopping (not enough selection of basics for that), but a good stop for specialty items. They also have a sandwich counter, some tables, a magazine rack, and a kids' play area.

Yelp
Wonderful Sandwiches and people! Smiling people.. Get the Jerk Pork sandwich.. oh yeah!

Yelp
When I ordered mine and my husband's meal (a spaghetti special and a Lola burger) approx. 11:30- 11:45 and hadn't received it after 12:30, I became unimpressed. Tables all around us had ordered and received their meals and we had nothing. Rather than admit they had lost our order and apologize to us, the server opted to stick her head in the dirt and pretend we didn't exist. More than one server had no answer for us as to where our ticket or order had gone. I'm thirty-eight weeks pregnant, "We don't have an order" is not a suitable answer for me. Now I'm stuck craving spaghetti, and my husband is going to have to report to work on an empty stomach. The best word to describe how I'm feeling right now is "chapped". I may return, once the waitstaff turns eighteen.

Yelp
Lunch is great. They actually make fried bologna sandwiches a good thing. Breakfast is my favorite meal here.

Yelp
Great place, homegrown items, something new added often, if you have not been there come down to water valley and take a look

Matt P.

Yelp
A great grocery store for locals who want fresh produce from the area every week. The restaurant serves the best breakfast in either Oxford or Water Valley. We miss the Sunday breakfast and hope to see it return someday. Lunch consists of their unique sandwiches and salads, always fresh and tasty. A different hot plate lunch special is offered daily.

Carl G.

Yelp
Wonderful little grocery and cafe centrally located right on Main Street. My wife and I stayed in Water Valley for several days, and ate breakfast there every day. Everything was delicious and fresh. The pan fried chicken for lunch was especially good, accompanied with field peas and snap beans. The catfish was also great, fried perfectly. Lots of interesting and delicious pre-made foods, prepared fresh daily, in the refrigerated case. The jalapeño pimiento cream cheese spread was terrific. We bought enough to last us on our four day drive back home. Alexe, the owner, and Dixie, the chef, are friendly and personable, and do a wonderful job. Next time we're in Water Valley, we'll be back for sure! Be sure to get there early for lunch if you want the chicken or catfish. They sell out quickly. But even if you miss it, the other lunch choices are also tasty.

Yelp
BTC is an alternative to your ordinary grocery store. The store strives to find local fresh produce and meats to sell at a reasonable price. They carry wonderful bread made at Bottletree Bakery in Oxford, fresh fruits and veggies, several specialty items in coffee and teas. Also a variety of spices, flours, and meal. Delta Grind grits is a real favorite of mine, I have never had better grits. Combine those with the fresh eggs from yard chickens, and some locally made sausage and you have one the best breakfasts you've ever eaten! BTC also has fresh milk in real glass containers and you can return them to be filled again. Food cooked on the premises is quite good, too. I am partial to Dixie's Artichoke and Pear soup. Wonderful!! They have a different lunch menu everyday, and breakfast all day Sunday. There is much more, too much for listing here. Let's just say the BTC has filled a void in this little village.

Yelp
Wow! Local grass-fed beef, organic chicken, free-range chicken eggs, a variety of casseroles, soups, salads, and ice cream all made fresh on the premises. A FABulous sandwich counter. Crazy exotic sodas, mix-match your own 6-pack of specialty beers. Oxford's Bottletree Bakery breads without the hassle of going to the Square! Cakes, pies and cookies baked daily on the premises! Exotic cheeses, Brown Dairy milk and butter. Yokna Bottoms Farm produce. This store is HEAVEN! And it keeps getting better! Kiss My Face lotions, toothpaste, Dr. Bronner's soaps. It's like they designed the store for me. Add to that a sincere commitment to supporting local farmers and you have the best and freshest produce each season can provide, much of it organic and/or pesticide free (and clearly labeled as such). AND THEY DELIVER! EVEN TO OXFORD!! I love this store and I can get pretty much everything but my paper products here.
