The Bull Hotel, Bridport, Dorset, England - Explore & Book

"Flanked by 2 rivers which lead to West Bay, Bridport is a charming rural market town with over 1,000 listed buildings (including this 17th-century coaching inn) and expansive West Country views. And with the dramatic Jurassic Coast right on its doorstep, it's the perfect base for exploring Dorset's stunning countryside. In the midst of the town centre sits the imposing, inky-blue exterior of The Bull Hotel. Its 19 eclectic bedrooms are furnished with bold, designer wallpapers, antique dressers and brushed-brass beds. There's a fabulous suntrap terrace and a bustling restaurant where you dine on fresh seafood before invariably ending up in the convivial Venner Bar for a sloe gin fizz or a flaming Mai Tai. Most guests are couples, but it’s great for families too and kids can run around the ballroom or play table football in the Ostler room - great fun for all! Highs There's a small private car park at the back of the hotel - a luxury for town-centre hotels The hotel has its own restaurant, plus good eateries next door and the Axminster River Cottage Canteen a short drive away Venner Bar's original recipe cocktails and sumptuous furnishings make it a destination in itself Great for families: friendly staff, spacious bedrooms and plenty of toys and games West Bay's beach, pretty harbour, dramatic cliffs and retro beach huts serving fish 'n' chips are just 2.5km away Lows Noise can be an issue in front-facing rooms at weekends; and more generally from squawking seagulls The Snug and Single Rooms are very small (7-8 sq.m.) and best suited to those who plan to be out for most of the day We've heard mixed reports recently about the food, and rooms starting to look tired You’ll probably want a car to get here (Bridport has no station) and to explore the surrounding area" - Melissa Burfitt

The Bull Hotel (Bridport, Dorset) 1 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"The West Dorset market town of Bridport has become something of an unlikely hipster haven, and boasts an improbable number of the region’s best restaurants. In the Bull Hotel it’s also got a very fine boutique hotel, occupying an old coaching inn that can trace its roots to 1535. The look is historically inspired but quite contemporary, with eclectic influences and a collection of one-of-a-kind furnishings; in-room comforts include smart TVs, Nespresso machines, and in some cases roll-top bathtubs. Meanwhile the hotel’s restaurant is one of the hottest tickets in town, serving hearty refined pub dishes." - Tablet Hotels

This is a regular haunt for me. The service and staff are excellent. Professional and friendly with high standards of service maintained. The rooms are a little tired and starting to date; there basic rinse don't come with aircon. The breakfast is varied and good; there's a lot of choice. The quality of food in the restaurant is also good. This a solid and reliable hotel made better by it's staff.

The only thing I would say could improve is let electric car drivers reserve the charger as only 3 on site and add to website to recommend to book a table if you wish to eat as we had to eat in the bar area which isn’t really ideal when you want an evening meal. Our room was amazing very clean and comfortable. I would definitely stay again

Check-in fast and efficient, staff very charming. Room was lovely, everything very clean and shipshape! There were six of us and we ended up eating in the bar area which was very nice. The only issue was that the food took a very long time to come - my colleague's starter arrived quickly, but our mains were very late. The service was good in the main. Will definitely stay again next year!

Attended a Christmas party at The Bull on Saturday evening. I found all the staff very helpful and happy! The food was excellent - we had 3 courses. All course were nicely presented and full of flavour! I haven't The Bull for many years, but will be looking to go back for a meal at some stage in the coming weeks.

I stayed for two nights and had a pleasant experience overall. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, and the breakfast offered a good variety of quality items. The only downside was that the coffee machine wasn’t working properly, which was a bit disappointing in the mornings. The rooms were a good size and comfortable. Overall, a nice stay with just a small area for improvement.

Have used The Bull numerous times but have never taken the offer to upgrade the room for £30 per night. For this two night stay I did. In the past the standard rooms had always been more than adequate. A little dated but more often than not with a view over the car park or even the gardens but often a three day camel ride from the stairs. We more often than not get allocated a room on the first floor. So what was the upgraded room like? Well disappointing. In fairness we didn't request a room as close as possible to the stairs and the room we were allocated was closer to the stairs but not much. The room itself clearly had slightly newer furniture but wasn't noticeably larger. It had some nice touches like bedside device charging points. The lights were push button and you needed a PhD in rocket science to figure out how to get particular lights on. The main lights button panel also had a very bright red light which was irritating when trying to sleep. The room was also very gloomy. One small window which overlooked a flat room. Not very inspiring given the window size and outlook from our stays in standard rooms. The room was also very stuffy and the heating controls didn't seem to do much but at least the window opened to provide a fresher environment. On a positive note the room was clean. and the bed comfortable (but smaller than those we had in standard room?) The bathroom was OK but a little on the small size for an upgraded room? Still had a shower in the bath with all the usual joys of climbing in and out made more "exciting" due to the fairly small floor space. In fairness it was clean and functional apart from the pedal on the bin didn't work. The supplied shower mat, like those supplied in standard rooms, was clean and effective. Finally, and in line with our previous stays, the staff were always very friendly and helpful, parking was easy and the breakfast fairly standard with a good range of food options. Will we use The Bull again? Definitely - more pros than cons. Will we go for the upgrade - highly unlikely. Wasn't worth the extra £60 in our opinion.

This was my second visit in two weeks - and was every bit as my first visit last week. My room was as advertised, and both comfortable and spacious. The location is convenient for the motorway and yet the centre of Gerrards Cross is a relaxing walk across the common.

Google
We choose the Bull Hotel pretty much before we visited for the first time. We had a feeling it was the right place for us even just looking at the offering in their wedding brochure. From the moment we visited and then booked our wedding, the service they offered was fantastic. Our wedding coordinator Georgia was exceptional. Any question we asked, or any advice she could give us was a fantastic help and support. We said to her on the wedding day she was a 15 out of 10, and we meant every single word. We could not speak highly enough of her. The hotel, right from the rooms, to the food, to the staff, to the decor was incredible. There was absolutely nothing we could criticise, or even give any slight negatives about. The attention to detail on all matters, was faultless. All of the food including the canapies and for the wedding breakfast were all exceptional. Every single course was perfect. Even the wine and prosecco provided was great (and this comes from two not real wine drinkers). The ceremony room and reception room had all of our choices and decisions followed perfectly. The bridal suite was a fantastic room, and we will not spoil the surprises, but some extra touches they put in our room were a fantastic suprise that we will cherish. Even staying at the venue the night before the wedding (we never stayed at the hotel before) was a great experience. In conclusion, the whole process from day one to the wedding day was a pleasure.

Yelp
The purpose of our visit was to host a business presentation. Before that, we had a high tea which started to arrive slowly but it was worth waiting for. An ambundance of sandwiches and other bites was well presented on the trays. At another occasion, we had a choice from the menu that I found a bit reduced considering it being a hotel - but the basics were well-spread from a dressed hamburger to a tasty curry (it could be real Indian) and of course pastas and salads. But if you're spending a holiday you will esperience the need to have your dinners somewhere else and that may involve a drive to the next town (at least). The presentation room was available and neat, easy to access and to prepare so we could start in time. After the meeting, we gathered for drinks, in a good atmosphere but when people from the group left the seats were quickly rearranged giving to other members of the company the impression they needed to leave as well. Conclusion - a well presented, efficient accommodation for whatever you like to do. It could use a bit of personality and eagerness to make the clients stay longer (which creates more consumptions!).

Yelp
Ah The Bull. Probably the most confusing layout of a hotel I've ever stayed in. Granted, England is a very old country and so the hotels are not the modern monoliths I am accustomed to. My co workers and I were booked here as it is one of the nicer accommodations near Pinewood Studios. This hotel struck me as a very business oriented hotel, not a place where one would go for a holiday (holiday is vacation in American English). The hotel features several large ballrooms used for conferences and they also have a beautiful garden in which they host weddings. The hotel is shaped like a square 'U' with the main areas being the bottom of the U and the rooms being the two uprights. To get to our rooms we had to walk through the Jack Shrimpton bar and snake our way past several doors and through 4 different corridors. The car park surrounds the hotel and there are more convenient entrances from those areas but our driver always dropped us of at the front of the hotel. The room I was in was big enough for two. The bathroom featured a very high bath with a fixed shower head, the standard heated towel rack. The bed was plenty firm and the little safe was just large enough for my American money and knick knacks I didn't want to lug around in my purse. Something that struck me right away was the lack of a clock. None to be had in the room. Time would be shown on the TV screen if you pushed the button but then it would disappear after 45 seconds or so. So bring an alarm clock, use your phone or schedule a wake up call if you need one. The mini bar/mini fridge in my room had also been taken out. Strange and kind of a deal breaker for me. I like keeping my own water and snacks in my own fridge, I eat a lot, what can I say. The blackout curtains worked really well for me. The bay windows made for an odd shape but the curtains were hardy enough that you could tuck them into one another to prevent the sun from leaking in at 5 in the morning (Oh English summers). It was funny how the two different bars at the hotel served different drinks. The Jack Shrimpton featured more ales on tap but had set hours. The other unnamed bar was pretty much 24 hours but had a limited selection of beers. So if you wanted a different beer you'd have to walk a bit back to the JS bar. Not a big deal. Because there weren't a lot of eateries within walking distance most of our stay there we ate at the bar or the Beeches Restaurant. The bar food was actually pretty good and the triple cooked chips (fries) were very nice. Alas, it is bar food so it was a lot of grease that my body was not that OK with. Overall the hotel is very nice but due to the old construction the hotel itself is very loud. I could hear everyone walking outside and all of the heavy doors slamming as businessmen left early in the morning. It was a little unnerving and since I was only there for a week, I never really got used to it. On one of the last nights we were there the Bull was hosting a wedding reception. They left a note in the room saying to expect some noise and that the complimentary breakfast bar in morning would be busy at certain times, which they indicated with a red, yellow and green time frames. The party wasn't too crazy, I could hear the music until 1:30 AM but it was a Friday, so not a huge deal. I wouldn't go calling this a 5 star hotel and I really just took a star off a four for the noise of the door and people walking around. If you're a fitness nut, the area surrounding offers some beautiful countryside to jog in and is relatively safe, even in the early morning. Overall, not a bad place to stay in Gerards Cross.

Yelp
Some of my colleagues didn't like this hotel when they stayed. I actually enjoyed it. Well, I liked the room, the free wi-fi, the trouser press mounted on the wall and the restaurant. That was the majority of my experience and so I'd stay again. I wasn't warned on checking in that if I took the nearest elevator from the lobby that I'd still have to haul my suitcase up a couple of short series of stairs -- no bueno. That architect must've been on drugs, seriously. I wouldn't recommend trying to find your room drunk. Ah, and the one slightly scary thing about the room -- I actually locked myself IN the room. Yup, IN. Those pesky tiny press locks that set in a bike-type cable lock ended up sticking. So when I was trying to leave to check out and get my taxi to the airport, I could not fully open the effing door. I was about to freak out but then I took one of their remotes and hammered that sucker open. Whew. So, be sober with the skills of MacGyver and not afraid of a little exercise, and you'll enjoy the hotel just fine. Seriously.

Yelp
We booked as a party of 11 adults and 5 children for Santa and buffet lunch the children enjoyed Santa and the buffet was very nice the price was £29.50 per adult which also was quite reasonable unfortunately one of our party was very ill with norovirus so we decided it would be best for them to stay at home we thought we might have got a refund especially being so considerate but this was not to be so anybody booking here be prepared to lose your payment should anybody not turn up
