A delightful way to spend your time in Totnes. The whole building is beautifully put together with cosy, clean and calm bedrooms for a decent nights sleep. Dining at the Bull is a no brainer! It's clear that the menu is carefully curated with lots of seasonal offerings for all dietary requirements to tuck into. Local, nutritious food, packed with flavour and thought.

Just returned home after 2 very memorable days in Totnes staying at The Bull . I can’t recommend this place highly enough. Our room was delightful and the food we ate was just brilliant. The staff are very friendly, engaging and helpful, a real credit to the business. Love the vibe and everything that it stands for, local sourcing, seasonal cooking and minimising waste. Well done, don’t change you have this just right.

Was visiting family in Plymouth. We took the train to Totnes one night for dinner at the Bull Inn and it was absolutely incredible!! The food was amazing the service was great. Overall very warm and homey atmosphere and vibe. If i’m ever back in Totnes I will definitely be back.

I didn't stay at the hotel so this review is for the restaurant only. Finally, a place that serves local, organic, healthy food that comes in generous portions and not in ridiculously overpriced small plates! One can indeed care about one's health as well as the planet whilst still having an appetite, and The Bull Inn perfectly understood that. The food was truly amazing: fresh, local produce, perfectly cooked with some original twists. The wine selection was also great and the service amazing, all of that for a decent price. I was only visiting Totnes but if I lived there I would definitely be a regular customer. Simply one of the best restaurants I've been to in a long time. You definitely won't be disappointed.

The food was genuinely good, fresh, tasty, and creative vegetarian dishes. Unfortunately, the overall experience didn’t live up to what I was hoping for. I’m travelling solo and had booked a table for one, really looking forward to this dinner as a little highlight of my day. When I arrived, I was seated at a small table right by the entrance. It felt like I was on display, no view except for the door, staff conversations, and a sense of being in the way. All around me, couples and groups were seated in the larger, much nicer dining room, which was nearly empty when I arrived. It would have made a big difference to have been seated there or at least offered the choice. To add to the awkwardness, the menu was presented only on a board placed quite far from where I was sitting, difficult to read and not explained. I ended up having to ask a staff member to walk me through it, which they did, but it felt like I was interrupting. These kinds of handwritten menus work much better when a waiter introduces the dishes properly, especially for guests dining solo. I’d read online that Tuesday was a vegetarian night, and while there were plenty of vegetarian options, the concept wasn’t clearly introduced or highlighted, it felt like that detail had been left behind. I wouldn’t return alone, but I imagine it’s a much nicer experience if you’re with friends or seated in the main room. The food really was good, I just didn’t feel taken care of as a solo guest.

The evening staff were welcoming and friendly, the morning staff were rude and judgmental.|The breakfast served is far too niche. E.g the breakfast ‘main’ meals were mostly just different variations of one type of food (egg, in this instance) so if you didn’t like egg or were vegan you couldn’t have a main and the ‘lighter’ options weren’t much better. I appreciate their ethos of ‘ethically sourced’ but I’m sure they could ethically source some pastries from a local bakery or just something else…anything else…to offer more variety to guests who had no choice but to pay for the breakfast within the rate charged. Their website suggests the dishes are ‘unfussy’… I would say it was the opposite. The vibe of the morning staff tells me a lot of guests are not happy with their offerings. And just a note on visiting, it’s a predominantly white area. We are used to a more ethnically diverse area. Didn’t always feel welcome if you didn’t fit in with the ‘look’ of the locals. Not sure if this was also part of the issue with the morning staff to us. Just something to think about.

Went for dinner at 6.30pm on a Sunday night. On the snacks and small plates, there were 5 vegan items, one of which was already sold out. An hour later, there were only 2 items not sold out (one of which was bread). The food we had was delicious and the best meal of our week in Totnes, and I’m glad they make everything from scratch and that it’s fresh, but just be warned that if you go later in the evening, there might not be anything vegan available!

I’ve been meaning to visit this place for a few years now, and finally made it there yesterday to celebrate my partner Jordan’s birthday. we’re so glad we did. The interior is full of rustic charm and character, creating a warm, inviting atmosphere. But the real star is the food. The menu is ever changing, built around seasonal, organic, and locally sourced ingredients. Every dish felt honest and inventive, and everything we tried tasted incredible.
