The Bur Oak is a great concert venue, but it also makes for a lovely place to have a wedding reception. We had ours here with approximately 90 guests, and it made for a cozy atmosphere (for dinner) and a fun one (for dancing)! The staff at the Bur Oak are also wonderful-the bartenders, sound engineer, and event coordinator (Jenny) worked with us to make an event we will always remember. The venue is also very cute, and they have amazing in-house sound and lighting. I would really recommend having your wedding here!

Our entire party of four found the chairs extremely uncomfortable. We were there for a comedy show, and would have had a better time had we not been in such discomfort. I mean really skinny chairs with almost no padding that are foldable, they feel insubstantial as though they could break, and are virtually guaranteed to numb your butt over the course of a short performance. I really like the venue otherwise and I want to be positive about the review, but the chairs really detracted from our enjoyment. Otherwise very nice staff, pretty venue, parking was a little bit of a challenge but not impossible... Overall a really nice venue if they would just get better chairs... To be clear, until I hear that they get better chairs I won't be returning.

Be 110% that you are going to keep your booking. We had booked this for my son wedding and they decided not to get married. We are canceling with 8 months in advance and it is costing us over $1,300 and the same amount for the other parents. So they are making over $2,600 on a cancelation and I am sure they will be able to book it again within 8 months. We were on vacation when it was booked, so we did not see the contract. There is no way we would have signed it with that type of cancelation policy. So be 110% sure you are going to keep your party, if not you are going to be out a lot of money.

I truly enjoy this event space in Madison. It’s intimate, personal, and just beautiful to me. I could go on for days about about the patio/smoke deck. But I will just say it’s a nice area to just sit and decompress during an event. The staff here is quite friendly and they can accommodate any event they are given. Definitely a great live music/performance venue for Madison. It’s a true gem!

We have been to numerous musical events here over the last couple of years. The venue brings in acts from Canada to Europe. Even though I'm not a huge celtic fan ( the better half is), our last endeavor Skerryvore, a Scottish Celtic rock band played, their own original songs. It was a high-energy act by a group of musicians who had mastered their instruments and skills far longer than they had been together! Just your average neighborhood bar providing, a safe place for the locals, and more looking to have a good time with the other 130 patrons at reasonable pricing! If you love music, then consider the Burr Oaks venue. Get there early as seating can be limited. Especially if it's a dance band!

The older I get the more so appreciate small event locations to listen to live music. The Bur Oak is perfect! Great acoustics in the building! Listened to Skerryvore, out of Scotland, last night! They also can be reserved for private events!

First time there, and it's quite impressive. I love the layout. Definitely deserves a return visit when I don't have to play a show! What a fantastic venue.

Very cool spot! Intimate experience with low lighting. They have weekly open mics and some great shows daily! I saw Chris Forsyth and the Garcia Peoples. Both rocked!

Yelp
Currently a music venue without a restaurant. The Drinks were pretty decent. Plenty of seating for the event we attended. We were fairly early and had elevated seats. We went to The Bur Oak to listen to Dixon's Violin it you haven't heard him play the electric violin I would highly recommend catching a memorizing show.

Yelp
My wife and I held our wedding ceremony and reception at the Bur Oak, and the staff and location were a large part in making the day go smoothly and wonderfully. Throughout the process the two event coordinators we worked with were exceptionally communicative and helpful. We had many planning meetings that were productive and did a great job helping us navigate the coordination and planning required to pull off a wedding. On the day, the coordinator was an incredible asset in navigating problems and helped take a tremendous amount of stress off our plates. Besides putting out literal fires, she helped manage guests, sort out timings, connect and coordinate the additional contracted help, and set up the furniture. We're also incredibly grateful that she was able to be flexible and offer us access to the space (free of charge) the day before to drop off a tremendous amount of decorations. The space itself is gorgeous, with the barrel ceiling, exposed wood, and beautiful stage. We paid the extra for the downstairs bridal suite and reception area, and it was worth it. Having a second space for guests to move down to for dinner while the upstairs was turned over for the reception was well worth it. As well as that, it gave the bride (my wife) her own space to get ready while I met guests and finalized preparations upstairs. We *highly* recommend the Bur Oak for your wedding space. The space is beautiful, the employees were on point, and moreover they were eager to help and be a part of our day.

Yelp
The Bur Oak is an independently run event venue in the heart of the Atwood neighborhood. It's a nearly one hundred year old building renovated for modern fun. They used reclaimed wood specific to the era and added a viennese style stage to the Great Hall. The bar top is hand poured concrete and finished with a hard lacquer to capture an aged look. I'm a fan of the diverse roster of entertainment here. If you look at The Bur Oak website you'll find a variety of events with something offered that suits you: comedy shows, music, burlesque, and more. Come for an open mic night, or consider having your private event here! I've been here once, for the first "Mortified Live" in Madison. Seated in the front, this 130 capacity room couldn't have a "bad seat" in the house. Pluses for ambiance, the sound system, a thorough website, clean restrooms, easy entry, simple ticketing. As they say, the collective dream of this space is to bring all walks of life together for great conversation. The Bur Oak is a venue you should check out! It's worthy of your time. Let's keep independent special places in Madison going!

Yelp
The first time we visited Bur Oak, I mentioned to my other half it would be a beautiful site for a wedding... But at the time it was not accommodating for our then 200 person guest list. The wood detail, styling, lighting, was just our style. Once our wedding plans changed due to the pandemic, we knew who to call. Ashlee and Andrew were a dream to work with. They were accommodating in working with our budget, making things happen on a short timeline, and super friendly to our family and closest friends. They went above and beyond in helping us play and pause our playlist on cue, as well as get the stage lighting just-so for our ceremony. They even assisted us in selecting our perfect tap list. We especially loved that our guests could come and go from the patio. As always, the venue was stunning and sparkly clean. Thanks for making it a wonderful, memorable wedding day!

Yelp
It's a beautiful intimate room, and a friendly vibe. Great acoustics and really remarkable people hosting this space. Not much to add, but it's love in the time of COVID-19, and if kindness and heart can set you apart, then the Bur Oak deserves to thrive.
