This was our first visit to Little Rock, so without knowing much about the general area we settled on staying at the Burgundy for 5 days/4 nights. Checking in on a Wednesday, I had called ahead to see about early check-in since I knew we'd be landing around noon and could be at the hotel by about 1:00. I was told to call back the day of our travel, from the airport. I did this, and was told at that time that early check-in should not be a problem, to just go ahead and head over. By the time we arrived though we were told there were no rooms ready for early check-in, but Clarence (the shining star of the establishment) offered to hold our bags while we went to get something to eat and he would call us when a room was available. We did so, which was easy enough since there are several restaurants and eateries within just a few blocks of the hotel and there are sidewalks everywhere. He called, we came back, and we got settled in our room.
The rooms themselves all seem to be laid out the same as best we can tell from looking in them when the doors were open for room cleaning or whatever, and overall they are a perfectly adequate design with a sitting area off to one side, a desk, a large bed (in our case one bed, not the two bed configuration), and of course a bathroom. The room also had a K-cup type coffee maker, a small fridge, and microwave. Two flat screen TV's complete the room, one by the bed and one in the sitting area. Overall we found the rooms comfortable, the bed nicely sized, and the staff pleasant - again, a shout out to Clarence who was always great!
The biggest issues we had with our room center around the bathroom. For one thing, it only has a loosely closing pocket door for separation, not a regular interior door, which in itself isn't a big deal but the door sports a large frosted window (see pic)! Considering it's exactly opposite the bed, this means if anyone has to get up and use the bathroom in the middle of the night the person left laying in bed is immediately blasted with bright light coming from the window. Terrible, terrible design. These should all be replaced with regular interior doors ASAP. The second issue with the bathroom was a complete lack of any kind of fan. Seriously, a bathroom/shower with no fan? This means any time either of you takes a shower, the mirror is completely obscured by mist and stays that way forever (see pic). Why no fan?! It's completely baffling. Lastly, the shower was clearly chosen for it's stylish looks, and it does look stylish with it's single silver bar drain cover (again, pic). The problem is, it clogged after just 3 uses and water started backing up in the shallow tub. I had to keep turning the water off as I was showering to keep it from overflowing, and I didn't like thinking about all the filth I was standing in as I'm certain it couldn't have clogged just from us after such a short time. I had to go out and buy a big jug of Drain-o to dump in it and let it sit for several hours to get it working again. I'm sure had I mentioned it to the front desk they'd have had someone come up and deal with it, but it shouldn't even come to that. Keep your stylish drain clean between guests and it won't be an issue. Finally, the shower head was one of those 'rain' type heads, very wide which is great, but very little water pressure. It felt like it took forever to rinse shampoo out of your hair, etc., and I'd rather have something with a little power to it rather than just water gently falling over me.
Overall, we enjoyed our stay at the Burgundy and really liked it's location relative to where we were traveling. If not for the bathroom, we could easily recommend this establishment to others. However, given the way the bathrooms are designed, when we come back next time we'll be looking for a different hotel to stay in.
