I had booked two nights here but left after the first. The hostel itself is in a good location and the facilities are fine, but I felt very uneasy during my stay. There were a number of men hanging around outside, often watching people come and go, and it didn’t feel safe.
What I later found out is that the hostel is being used as a direct provision centre housing refugees. In fact, a recent Clare Echo article reported that a man staying there was charged with assault. Knowing that made sense of the atmosphere I experienced, but I would have liked to have been made aware of this before booking.
For me, it wasn’t a comfortable environment and I decided to move elsewhere. I would not recommend for solo travels.
