The But 'n' Ben

Went for some traditional Scottish food and it was nice . Great friendly staff .

It's always a pleasure to visit the But n Ben... But then there was always the dessert cart...! Lovely, friendly service, good food and a great place to stretch the legs afterwards.

The But ‘n’ Ben is a true gem in Arbroath. The food is fresh, hearty, and full of flavour, and the welcoming atmosphere makes you feel right at home. It’s the kind of place that leaves you smiling and already planning your next visit.

One of the best meals we’ve ever had ! Everything is fresh and locally sourced wherever possible. Our fish of the day and mussels were amazing ! And the veggies topped them perfectly A rare find for us Very traditional and such a friendly atmosphere We will gladly be back !

Took a drive up to Auchmithie yesterday. It's a busy wee restaurant so we were very lucky to get a table - suggest booking ahead. As others have said, the food is excellent and while we went for the smokies / pancakes, I'm sure everything else on the menu would be great too. Leave space for a desert then cross the road for a walk down to the beach to burn it off!

Quaint little pub/restaurant not far from the coast with an open log fire, perfect for when the weather is bad. Staff are very welcoming, served us with a smile, and always ready to help. We didn't book and it was busy, but they still were able to accommodate us. Food was good especially the Smokie Soup. We had fish and chips, one with batter the other in oatmeal, both were nice although the batter on the fish was a little soggy. Would recommend.

We visited here on our Anniversary. The famous smokies pancake was delicious. So creamy and morish. The salmon in orange sauce was also perfect. Lemon cheesecake...yummy. Finished with delicious coffee and homemade tablet. We will definitely be back soon

Yes a couthie wee place run by husband and wife team. Nice enough but not too exciting.I suppose adequate best describes it. Arbroath smoky items high on menu like smoky pancakes.

Perfect seafood restaurant in Auchmithie. We stopped in early evening in January. They fireplace kept it toasty and the ambiance was amazing. It's full of nautical themed artwork by local artists. The hostess was attentive and very helpful. The portions were huge! Everything was cooked well and amazingly fresh. We took dessert back to our nearby Airbnb. It's a must stop if you are staying nearby.

If you are in the area, you should definitely go to this restaurant! A large group of us wondered to it for lunch one afternoon and couldn't have been more pleased. It has a quaint atmosphere, with a fire in the fireplace on one side and the nicest people working. They instantly made us feel at home. Most of the dishes we ordered consisted of the local specialty, smokies. Every one of us enjoyed the food. Also, the food was served with large dishes of various veggies. We were all more than filled when we left.

Lovely restaurant. Wandered in for lunch after spending some time in Arbroath. 2 adults, 2 kids, no reservation. The proprietress was lovely and accommodating from the start, even though the restaurant was quite busy. It's a traditional, Scottish restaurant and the food is excellent. My husband and I both had the pancake with "traditional Arbroath smokies" served with fresh veggies, side salad & herbed new potatoes - delicious!! Highly recommend.

Excellent simple very fresh food, seafood a speciality. Book well in advance as it is often full.
