18 Best Bars in Amsterdam | Condé Nast Traveler

"There's more to The Butcher, a notable burger bar in its own right, than meets the eye. Locate a door at the back and ring the buzzer. Upon opening, it reveals a dimly-lit bar lined with green bar stools. Be sure to make a reservation in advance by emailing them directly; they'll send back a time and a password for entry." - Meredith Bethune

Google
An excellent chain burger restaurant with a bar in the back. You won’t be amazed by the burger but you will certainly be satisfied. It is done just right. The meat is excellent and aged, it is grilled on two levels with the patty slowly smoking on the top level as the burger is constructed. The meat is cooked perfect medium rare and is perfectly seasoned, the bread is nicely grilled, the vegetables are fresh and crunchy, the sauce is not invasive and complements the meat perfectly. Lovely, good, reliable. Recommended.

Google
omg this was the best burger we had in amsterdam so far, it was sooo good! the meat wasn’t too much smashed which is something that i really look for when going to eat smash burgers because they can be really heavy!! we also had sweet potato fries, they were amazing :)))

Google
A cute bar and lovely food! The plant base burger was delicious. The only downside was I expected French Fries instead of thick cut chips. I do think that it’s a bit on the expensive side as I paid €18 for a burger and chips! But the atmosphere is cool and it stays open till 12am so it’s a cool spot to go after a couple drinks.

Google
This place has something for everyone: from burgers, to fish, to snacks and a big selection of drinks. I decided to go for the classic burger and accompany it with some chicken bites, fries and mozzarella sticks. At first I thought the price was elevated, however when the food arrived, it was quite a good amount for what you pay. I enjoyed the meal overall and the service was quite attentive and kind. The only thing is that do keep in mind that there is a restaurant where you can eat more privately and calmly. Overall, I enjoyed the food and would come back from time to time.

Google
Delicious burgers! We didn't expect them to be this good. We ordered the Cowboy and Truffle Truffle burgers, and the Truffle was the best! The shop's decoration and the art on the wall are so fun!

Google
I had a great experience in The Butcher! I took the The Daddy burger, which was awesome! I recommend! The chips were also great, Also recommending to order the garlic mayo sauce.

Google
My partner and I placed an online order via Thuisbezorgd from The Butcher on Albert Cuyp. I ordered a double burger medium-rare, but it arrived completely overcooked, very dry, and tasting like low-quality, old frozen meat. My partner ordered a double burger with fries and only received a single burger without the fries. Cooking a burger properly is NOT difficult, and reading an order (including the extra comments) shouldn’t be either. Really disappointing experience.

Google
The burger is good but there are plenty of better burgers in the city. Service was good. Short staff, which had a lot of dirty tables in the late afternoon. Got the single patty smash burger. The American cheese should be melted and the bun needs some work. Feels like a bun you'd get in a big chain.

Yelp
Very good burgers, chicken sandwiches, fried fish basket, and fries. Went here 3 times on my trip to Amsterdam. It's interesting drawings on the wall that tend to keep you entertained while you're enjoying your food. I was a little confused about where you enter the restaurant, which is actually around the corner in the back. However, on my next trip, I will be returning.

Yelp
The food was good, not great! The service was forced. The kiosks to order were broke. The temperature was very hot, had to have our food to go.

Yelp
Food - 5 Value - 4 Ambiance - 3.5 Service - n/a The best burger in Amsterdam. Didn't have lofty expectations coming from NYC, but was pleasantly surprised - burger patty was juicy and flavorful, had nice balance of lettuce and cheese + truffle mayo, and the chicken was surprisingly juicy as well. Fries fell a bit short and could have been more seasoned, but were crispy and on the better end of fries I had in Europe. Will come back again next time I'm here.
google avatar

Yelp
Solid representation of a North American burger. Very similar to Burgerfi Fries were great also

Yelp
My go to spot whenever I'm in Amsterdam. They make a really good burger but make sure you say well done if done like your burger half alive! I make sure I return every time I'm in the country. Each time the food has been consistent and good. I will continue to return as long as the ingredients don't change. I've also recommended this spot to many people!

Yelp
The burger was okay. Very limited seating. For the price, the meat patty was a bit small. It was thick but small. They flame grill the meat patty so it was flavorful! A bit on the expensive side compared to burgers in the U.S. I think I got a cheese burger with bacon for almost 15EUR
google avatar

Yelp
Look... if you love burgers this is the spot. Especially after too much red wine, I NEED a burger, the decor is very simple "a burger bar" you can see your meat on the thingy being cooked. The bathroom is of course small but clean, the staff looks like they get alone and that gives good vibes. Don't expect any eye candies, just a full stomach
google avatar

Tyrell C.

Yelp
Pretty disappointing experience here... the wings had barely any sauce on them, as well as the burger didn't have the cheese melted and was quickly thrown together. Definitely not worth a visit. Ambiance was very mediocre as well given it's a tiny shop with a few seats.

Yelp
On recommendation from our Air BnB hosts, my husband and I had dinner at The Butcher and were extremely pleased with our meals. This particular location has very limited seating so you may need to wait for a seat. We were, luckily, able to grab two seats right before our food was served. Order at the counter and it will be brought to you. The ingredients are very fresh and everything is made to order. I had the Butcher (prime Aberdeen Angus beef, lettuce, tomato, gherkin, grilled onions, and butcher sauce. Cooked to a perfect medium, very hefty in size- definitely surpassed burgers I've had stateside. The butcher sauce was comparable to a spicy chipotle mayonnaise sauce. My husband had the Benedict (prime Aberdeen Angus beef, ham, fried egg, lettuce, tomato, and Hollandaise sauce), which was also cooked to a perfect medium. Both burgers were juicy and were well-contained in their buns. We split an order of frites, and found it to be plenty for two. Mayonnaise and-gasp-ketchup are both available for use. I was quite impressed with the freshness and quality, as well as the price of our meal. I would definitely return again and would recommend anyone visiting to see out The Butcher for delicious and hearty burgers!

Yelp
In Amsterdam, I was trying to find a really good juicy burger. Now being that it's an American dish, I felt like it could go either way. I could find a really good burger, or a really lousy one. Turns out, the butcher is THE burger spot in Amsterdam. I love my meat all juicy and pink and this burger was cooked to perfection. Bite after bite was just too good. I was so hungry and this food was exactly what I needed. I ordered fries and chicken poppers as my sides. Chicken was super juicy and they used white meat! (Personally not a fan of dark chicken) I love that they have an open air kitchen and you can see all the fresh ingredients they're using. The team looked like they knew how to work together which was appreciated because the line started to get long once I was finished with my meal! If you're looking for a bomb juicy burger -- look no further. This place has plenty of space. Smoke a joint, eat a burger, live your best Dutch life!!

Yelp
I'm a sucker for burgers. These ones are top notch. I would go back for sure. I highly recommend them. If you haven't been, you won't regret it.

Yelp
We tried many restaurants in Amsterdam and not a one let us down. Finding a burger place that really stands out can be difficult, but I knew my search was over after my first bite of my Butcher Burger. Juicy, running down my face, and full of flavor. The perfect fries were an added bonus as was the ice cold Heineken. To top everything off, the staff was eager to serve, friendly, and a joy to be around. Also noteworthy was the cleanliness of restaurant.

Yelp
One of the most delicious and juicy burgers I have ever tasted! Mom and I stopped in for lunch. I don't eat beef so I went with the Silence of the lamb burger. I was far from disappointed. My mom did the Butcher with cheese and she finished the entire thing (she never finishes her food). We shared a batch of sweet potato fries which were plenty between the two of us. We also dipped them in the spicy chipotle sauce. Sad, we don't have one of these in NYC because it was the best lamb burger I've ever had!

Dee H.

Yelp
Delicious! I had the butcher burger with vegan cheese. The sauce on the burger was so good. Too hungry to take a picture.

Yelp
We came here our first day in Amsterdam and after a night of traveling their burgers and fries totally hit the spot! We stumbled upon this place on yelp and it wasn't too far so gave it a try. I actually expected it to be more of a sit down full restaurant, but this location is not. I think the full sit down restaurant of the same name/chain is on the north side by the Amsterdam tower. This location is in de Pijp area and is sort of like a mini shake shack - open kitchen, only seating for probably 10-12 people. Despite being disappointed in the atmosphere at first, the food was amazing! My boyfriend and I got different burgers but both were amazing. I got the burger with their special sauce on it and added a fried egg and onions. It was amazing. We also shared their fries and the regular order was huge! They were super hot, crispy on the outside, soft in the inside. Super perfect. Overall, an excellent burger and fries in a very casual setting.

Yelp
We ate a lot of burger in Europe.. Not sure why but it was delicious! Restaurants in Amsterdam close so early, be cautious about that! We were exploring Yelp and found this spot open past 10 PM, we were starving so we walked two miles to get it. The service was great and the food came out hot and fast! I ordered the veggie burger with truffle mayo and fries, it was so good! Delicious fries (really some of the best fries I have ever had were in Amsterdam, every corner there are fries and they are all amazing!) The milkshakes looked and sounded amazing, I love the fun names of all the burgers as well!

Yelp
Amazing burger, almost felt that it's better than burgers in the states! The burgers are cooked on a small grill close to the front and easy for any customers to see. They cook the burgers to about a medium so it's definitely pink once you bite down into the burger. The patty is really thick and the burgers are definitely a great portion size. The ambiance of the restaurant is almost hipster like, and it's nice that there is glass panels to see the associates cook behind the counter all the items to order. I came here with many friends so we basically sampled 4 different burgers on the menu. The burger that stood out most was the truffle burger, which had a delicious chunky truffle flavored sauce on top that made the burger taste extra meaty (umami?). The fries are nothing too special especially because there are many other places for delicious frites while in Amsterdam. Although the burgers are a bit on the pricey side (about $65 usd for four burgers and one order of fries) I would say this casual restaurant is worth a stop if you are ever in Amsterdam.
google avatar

Terry N.

Yelp
One of the best burgers I've had in a long time! Perfectly seasoned, cooked to a nice, juicy medium rare. So incredibly tender. Great quality buns and condiments complete the package. The only downside is that the place is pretty small and smoky (albeit with delicious burger smoke) Highly recommend!
google avatar

Yelp
It was ok the meat. Could be hotter when it is delivered to table too fries were great

Yelp
Have you ever had a burger that made you sweat while you ate it? Have you ever had a burger make you moan louder than the sex you're not having? Boy howdy do I have the place for you in Amsterdam! This place quite simply. Rocks. This is hands down, the best burger I've ever had in my life. And I'm from the United States! Truffle Burger is my poison of choice here. Everything is so fresh and delicious, I have to keep wiping the drool off of my mouth as I write this...because I'm thinking about the burger I just finished. There are a couple of locations in Amsterdam, but this is the only one I've ever been to. I promise you, you have never had a burger like this before. Pro tip - hit up a coffee shop before hand to help make you hungry. These are thick burgers and can have some difficulty finishing them without some assistance.

Yelp
We stumbled upon this place thanks to our Uber driver. It's one of the best burger places in Amsterdam. When you're told that or even read it, I take it w/ a grain of salt. We popped in and the location has an open kitchen to where you can see everything. A couple table tops, but the rest is bar tables w/ a view of outside. The white tile and silver kitchen counter top tables make it feel like a diner or sorts. We got: The Daddy - 250g of prime Aberdeen Angus beef topped with melted Edam cheese, lettuce, tomato, bacon, BBQ sauce & grilled onion Truffle Burger - Prime Aberdeen Angus beef, lettuce, tomato, grilled onion & truffle glaze Fries Rum Chocolate Shake - Rum, hazelnut & chocolate ice cream The Daddy burger has some of the most amazing flavor I've had from a burger. Every bit was just as good as the last. The truffle burger to me was a bit overpowering to me. The boozy shake did the trick, all served in a mason jar. If you're craving a great burger, I highly recommend going here, before or after you hit the cafes.

Yelp
Not a single thought of negativity comes to mind when I think about The Butcher. This was my first lunch in Amsterdam. I was honestly expecting a so and so burger spot, but what I found was the holy grail of burgers. Reading down the menu I came across a few interesting names, but "The Silence of The Lambs" burger was the one that called out to me the most. Also, a lamb burger? What?? I had to try it. Come to no surprise, this burger was literally the best I've had. Not just in Amsterdam but in the good ol' USA. The first bite was all it took for me to make that assumption. It was perfectly cooked and the ingredients just screamed out fresh! And it breaks my heart to know that I won't have it anytime soon.

Yelp
Hubby and I ate here in 2015 and thought it was really good. I'm pretty sure it was the owner that cooked our burgers that time and they were juicy and very rare. They were so rare that they were practically still moo-ing. This time, the experience was much less enjoyable. There was already a group of about 10 people ordering and in the process of ordering when we came in. We were able to order relatively quickly but it took about 30 minutes to get our two burgers and one side of fries. One of the girls in the group that came in before us ordered the fish and chips and we were halfway done eating when she finally got her meal. There were two guys working at the time and they obviously didn't work well together. The really tall one was incredibly lazy and kept checking his phone and acting busy at the register while the other guy worked his butt off to fulfill the orders. He couldn't man the grill, the fryer and the prep station all at once! The really tall guy even left for about 10 minutes while we were waiting for our food, leaving the other one to do everything by himself. Fire the really tall guy. He was terrible and seems to be pissing off the rest of the staff. At the end of it all, our burgers were almost well done, which is not how I like my burgers. Very disappointing experience.

Yelp
Boozy shake and a good burger. Life doesn't get much better than at the butcher. Be prepared to see it overbooked, as the place is pretty small

Yelp
I rode my bike right past the storefront. I guess I was expecting something bigger based on all the hype. It's a small space. Half of it's kitchen. The other half is seating, eating, standing, waiting area. The tables turn quickly. You order your food when you come in and pay right there. You then give them your name. Now you're in the queue! In 10 min or so your burger comes up and your name is called. Time to chow down. This place is popular. Many are repeat customers who know full well the pleasure that awaits. Everyone waits patiently. I ordered The Daddy as did the other three people I was with. 250grams of prime Aberdeen angus beef topped with melted Edam cheese, streaky bacon, BBQ sauce & grilled onion. Add to that a side of fries and a coke. It came to 15,95 total. This ain't no freaking chain restaurant. This is serious burger business now step back and let them work. So I did. They season the meat with rock salt and pepper. I can still taste the salt 4 hours later. Don't get me wrong. It was a flavorful experience. The meat was salty but not too. The bacon and onions added to the overall impact in flavor smacking me solid in the taste buds. That's some juicy meat. The bun was a soft bread not hard but easily squishable making it easier to eat. The fries were standard thick cut steak fries, crispy on the outside but still soft and hot on the inside. I want moah....and guess what they deliver!! Well there are 7 burgers. One is actually lamb. There is fish and chips, a chicken sandwich, a hot dog, eggs benedict, a cream cheese dish with bacon, egg and avocado and a veggie burger. You can order a salad in addition to a few other things as well as sides of sauce for dipping. I'm not sure what their choices are in drinks as they weren't listed on the menu or reader board but I do know they have Coca cola. You can also get yourself little containers of mayonnaise or ketchup. I didn't see a rest room though I did see the infamous steel door, that leads to the speakeasy, with the intercom next to it and the security camera peering down on me. I smiled....for the camera of course! I'll be back or....I'll order delivery. Either way I will sample more of their wares. Yes, I liked it that much...

Yelp
How to say : this is the best burger I eat in amsterdam (and one of the best that I eat all short!). Product quality is top, the sauce in the classic burger is huge. The fries are good. And there's a loyalty card. For the place is quite small but I like the idea of seeing how they make my burger , on an electro background. And i love the concept of the secret bar and restaurant at bottom . ( if you are in the list ) Price: 9e Burger,3e for fries and 2e for coca. oh and there are also in delivery. Just im the big fan of The Butcher ahaha
google avatar

Fidelio L.

Yelp
Stopped by this place around 7ish pm & it wasn't too busy. The staff was very friendly & quick service. Similar to a hole-in-the-wall, may not be good for large parties. They have take away & delivery options also. Tried the Butcher with cheese & the Babaganoush. Both were delicious! Didn't need anything extra. Burger was cooked perfectly.

Yelp
This place has awesome burgers but everything else about it has seriously gone downhill. Bad customer service and incompetence all over the place. We got take out from here on Saturday and it took 3-4 minutes of me being passed around to different people on the phone before they took my order. Then when my husband went to pick up the order he was ignored for 5 minutes while the employees yelled at each other for screwing things up. The order came out but they wouldn't give it to him because they said they had no record of the order. After 10 minutes they "found" the bag that my husband was pointing to all along but blamed the confusion on not understanding my name on the phone. Wtf? So we got expensive burgers that by this time were cold, and it turns out the order was wrong too. My burger had the wrong toppings but they somehow gave us 2 of the burgers my husband ordered instead of one. So it was quite an ordeal with a free hamburger payoff, but that didn't make it worth it. I'd recommend Burger Bar over this place.

Yelp
Burgers Burgers Burgers!! How difficult are they to prepare??over the last couple of years, gourmet burger joints have sprung like mushrooms everywhere, not just in Amsterdam. That creates a competition for the "best burger in town award" which in my opinion is very healthy. On the other side all this places are very similar to me, they all have great quality ingredients, with the main difference being the approach they have wether is organic, trendy, etc. The butcher has a peculiarity, they have a not-so-secret-anymore club that is hidden from all customers and you need to know a member in order to get in. All in all a good burger in a very nice place.
google avatar

Mathias H.

Yelp
I had heard a lot of hype about the Butcher and their burgers so when I finally had the time to try it I was heading there with fairly high expectations. There was clearly this hipster feel to the place but it did at the same time feel welcoming so did not really mind. Being a sucker for good truffle I opted for the truffle burger and was hoping that they would use some good truffle. The fact that they started making the burger when I ordering and that they asked how I wanted it done was a good sign. After approx 10 kins of waiting I had a delicious looking and truffle smelling burger in front of me. The first bite into it did however reveal a fairly standard tasting burger, not in any way bad but considering the burger trend and the abundance of good burgers that now can be found almost all over Europe this would have more in common with a standard restaurant burger than the best burgers I had. So nicely designed fast food place that is a bit overpriced and serves up standard burgers - no repeat visits here.

Yelp
With a great soundtrack going (the Beatles!) we ordered and we served some great burgers. The burgers are actually grilled, as in a real grill with fire. Everything is made to order and although the order of the orders got a little weird, everyone was very happy with their burger. Sean ordered the Cowboy. It was perfectly cooked with a crispy brioche bun and had the perfect amount of delicious toppings. Jessica got a regular cheese burger which had a good texture and flavor, again with the crispy brioche bun. The fries looked good but were a little too salty for our taste, but they still went well with the burgers. This is a tiny place on the street with the Albert Cuyp Martket. We had a hard time finding it during the market since all the tents were up, but we made an effort so we knew where it was when we went back that evening. At 7:00 p.m. they were finishing cleaning up the street from the market which made it a little difficult to get there and there's no sign that sticks out so you can see it down the street. You basically just come up on it and see the inside light and then the sign. As long as you know where you are headed, you are good to go. But this street is just dead in the evening! If you can find a seat, great! If you can't find a seat, they will pack it up for take out (or take away) for you!

Yelp
Amsterdam's go to place for great burgers! The Butcher takes great pride in their burgers, it's obvious. Each ingredient is carefully selected to make the best burger you'll find! Wonderful fresh tomatoes, lettuce, and lightly toasted brioche bun. As well, the chefs do a great job cooking up those delicious Aberdeen beef patties to perfection -- perfectly seasoned and seared. I like that The Butcher used and open kitchen design, and you can sit back and watch them make your burger. It's a great little spot to take in the action. Enjoy!

Yelp
I will start by saying that I do not do fast food burgers. It has been ten years since I've set foot in a McDonald's or Burger King. I try to limit the amount of burgers I eat even. So when I do get in the mood for one I really hope it is spectacular. The Butcher did not disappoint. I ordered the Cowboy which comes with jalapeños and grilled onions. It was a nice mix of sweet in the onion and spicy peppers. The burger patty was cooked to a nice medium rare. Great flavor in the meat. Each bite carried with it a new spice experience. I also had a side of fries which were lightly salted and cut thick, which is great if you like that, and I do. Will be making quite a few return visits to try others on the menu.
google avatar

Klash H.

Yelp
Good place to get a medium rare burger. The meat quality was good and the kitchen is open which is almost the norm in this city. The butcher cheese burger has a chipotle sauce. Alot of people were ordering to go and delivery. The seating and the building has a industrial feel. This was actually one of my favorite burgers.
google avatar

Alan G.

Yelp
The burgers were good, but overall this was pricier than we anticipated essentially making it an overpriced burger joint. Most likely wouldn't go back here again
google avatar

Ren O.

Yelp
I recommend the burger with truffle sauce. The brioche bun complements the juicy meat very well. You can skip the fries, I have had better elsewhere. Friendly staff.
google avatar

Raoul O.

Yelp
The Butcher is a very simple Burger shop that focuses on big burgers with a few unique ingredients. I ordered The Daddy with Butcher Sauce and overall it was a good burger. I can't really say it was mind blowing, but I got exactly what I ordered. The only reason I rate this place a 4 is because the price is bigger than the flavor... the price does justify the good quality ingredients to a point but the lack of BANG when you're taking a bite leaves feelings of "damn I paid a lot of this?" It's definitely worth a try, especially if you're already close.
google avatar

Alex P.

Yelp
This tiny, unassuming, spot delivers good burgers, possibly some of the best burgers this side of the Atlantic and definitely the best ones I had in the Netherlands. Two things that they need to work on - meat to bun ratio (either a smaller bun or a bigger burger patty); and both burgers I had there were over cooked - I did ask for med rare and was told they cook it to medium but what I got was med well at best. That said, the meat quality and consistency was good. I'll give them another chance to improve.

Yelp
I'm going to have to agree with other reviewers regarding this particular location. I haven't tried the new Jordaan joint and I prefer the Foodhallen spot over this one. "The Butcher" in De Pijp suffers from: erratic service, uncomfortable seating arrangements, and inconsistent burgers. I've been here twice with some radically different results. The first time, my burger came out great; patty was medium, slightly pink in the middle and done well outside (not burnt). The second time, the burger came out well done (rather crisp) on the outside and nearly raw in the middle. They do know their fries, though; both times, the fries came out perfectly. Rather than risk it, I think I'll be going to Foodhallen from now on, braving the large crowds. I've never experienced an issue there. Or I may try out the Jordaan location to see if it's any better.
google avatar

J. G.

Yelp
You'll have to do a little searching to find it tucked away behind the stalls at Albert Cuypmarkt, but's it worth the effort. This is definitely the best burger I've had in Amsterdam. I tried the slider size burger at 'Taste of Amsterdam" a few weeks ago and I wondered if it would be true to what you get in-store from the Butcher; good quality ingredients atop a well seasoned burger. My burger today confirmed that it was and put 'The Butcher' at the top of my list for burgers.

Yelp
This is a review for the "secret kitchen." With all the fanfare and hoop jumping required to get a reservation, I expected more. I really liked the appetizer and the dessert. The entree selection wasn't very inspired. I got a glimpse of the menu with prices (at first we were given menus without prices), and the prices of our a la carte items were lower than what we paid for the set menu. That just doesn't sit right with me. It probably would've been fine had the drinks were good, but they were just ok. I expect more from a speakeasy, and I had much better drinks all over Amsterdam in other restaurants and cocktail bars. I think it's over-hyped and wouldn't recommend this. The actual burgers from this place (I tried them at Foodhallen) are much better than this restaurant. To be fair, my friend was happier with his meal than I was with mine, but both of us agreed that this place didn't live up to our expectations.

Yelp
First, PEOPLE STOP WITH THE NEGATIVE REVIEWS ON A HAMBURGER PLACE. If you don't like it move on and spend your 10 Euro someplace else. The Butcher is a small business with a TWIST that is done very well. As a tourist that is always looking for something off the beaten path this spot was a great find. I was lucky enough to meet a beautiful hostess at a restaurant I will not mention that was kind enough to put my name on a list and provide me with a password (changes daily ) that would lead to one of my best nights in Amsterdam. You enter what looks like a traditional chips an burger place that while small is tastefully decorated. (the area its in is sketchy but I liked that ) You make your way to the back and into a hallway where if you are lucky you are seen on a small camera and you give the right password. If that works out you have a great time and on your way out you get a burger and fries that HIT THE SPOT. All in all a GREAT TIME!

Yelp
Took the ferry to North Amsterdam and had a latte macchiato at this place. The burgers and meat looked really good. Very nice view on the water and swans. Nice modern hotel.

Yelp
Decent sized burger with fresh ingredients ! Ordered the daddy and watched that bad boy sizzled on the grill, but once I took the first bite it was alright. Patty was a bit on the dry side and needed some more spice and flavor, which the BBQ sauce inside made up for. As for my side the sweet potatoes were great! Friendly service. Total in US dollar was $18.93 and due to the heat I just stuck to water, which wasn't too bad for being tap :)

Yelp
Great burgers! So big and delicious and have so many types I wanted to try them all! Limited seating, we have to eat outside on a bench, but anyway it was worth it

Yelp
After an overnight flight (without eating) from the East Coast of the US, the wife and I arrived in AMS shortly before noon and immediately made a dash towards De Foodhallen (filled with a bunch of food stands - think Chelsea Market in NYC or Union Market in DC). After a few pass-throughs, we decided for burgers: in short, a very good meat patty, but the bun was a bit of a let-down - it fell apart fairly quickly under the weight of the toppings (I got "The Cowboy", with jalapenos and cheese). The fries, however, were top notch (get the mayo, obvi). Two heavy cheeseburgers and fries came out to $25.

Yelp
If you're American, don't come to Amsterdam for a burger. It was ok but unless you're missing home, there's really not much point. Plenty of better burgers back home. I got the babaganoish burger and it was a mistake. The flavors didn't work at all (some things are just too weird). The burger patty was dry and not juicy.

Yelp
A great place to grab lunch or dinner. This burger bar makes what is quite possibly the best flame-grilled burger in Amsterdam. Keep in mind that seating in The Butcher is limited and the place gets extremely busy on weekends.

Yelp
Someone help me out. Wife and I came here after reading the rave reviews. As American expats we keep the bar pretty low for burgers, but this is was mind boggling bad. Between the lax hygiene standards, piss poor service, and the slowest burger order ever...skip. We got our burger and were so tired of waiting we stopped asking for our drink and fries. 27 euros for 2 burgers, 2 fries, and 2 drinks. Are you fricken kidding me?!? Skip. It is mediocre at best (and cold by time you get it) and Amsterdam is full of better eating.
