The Butcher Shop & Grill

A Johannesburg institution. One of the first places to come to for a steak fix when I'm in town. Prices are fair and my T-bone last night was heavenly, cooked perfectly with nothing but salt. The bernaise sauce was slightly too tangy but the black peppercorn sauce was delicious. Service is usually prompt and professional, but a bunch of waiters standing around at the entrance is a bad look, intimidating rather than welcoming. Nevertheless, a fine restaurant and cant wait to go back.

Good meat quality. Tried fillet medium well. Cooking degree was good. But presentation of the food is too poor. Nice sauces with fillet ie. Bordelaise, Diane, mushroom sauce would be nicer as an option. Otherwise, eating experience becomes boring. Also, waiter waited too long for tip before bringing the pos machine. Not everyone had to tip, especially table for 1 and simple eating.

The Butcher Shop is a must visit if you want to experience authentic South African meat on a grill. Few do it better at this price point. The vibe will have you happy and your crowd will be in a talkative mood. Service was amazing with professional smiling waiters ready to call another waiter if they need assistance. Feel free to book a big table.

Disappointing. Unacceptable from a restaurant of that value to be that mediocre. It is unacceptable to deliver mediocre food. Mediocre pre cooked fired. Mediocre prepped pepper sauce. Mediocre service. Coming before time without notifying a guest about last order time even for dessert. I have been coming here for 15 years & I am genuinely disappointed.

Excellent service and top-class food. We had dinner with friends on Friday 28 November. Compared to previous visits, this time the service was extremely good, and the food was perfectly prepared. Definitely worth another visit in future.

Beef steak is good. But my lamp is over cooked. Wine is good. Salad is good. Atmosphere is good too. But deserts suck. Ice-cream is very low quality. Cake is too sweet.

Unacceptable for a restaurant of such a pristine name. The waitress, Pretty, has very cold and not friendly at all. The cut of steak was very fatty and I was unable to eat 1/4 of the steak as it was purely fat. I have recently been to the branch in Cape Town and my experience there was fantastic. I would go back there in a heartbeat; however, I will not be recommending the branch in Sandton to anyone

Best steak I have had in a long time. Great selection of wines. Good variety of desserts and all are excellent. Special mention to our waiter Tebogo. What a professional waiter- balanced- excellent sevice, attentiveness and timing. The manager Shaun also displays the utmost professionalism. He is tuned into great service by pleasing his customers and making The Butcher Shop & Grill a success. Well done.
