"The sheer size of Australia, and the commuting that necessitates, means that regional pubs, bistros, and roadside cafes have always been an integral part of the country’s culinary experience, from The Butter Factory in Pyree, New South Wales."

Sorry about the 4 stars for food, but my sister’s & my smoked, seared lamb was quite tough & dry, so much so we requested a steak knife to cut it! Other than that everything was fantastic. I must say the young adults that served our table were awesome, they were polite, knowledgeable- getting advice if they were unsure - smiling, engaging…. everything you would hope from such a beautiful restaurant. My husband ordered the pork belly & enjoyed it immensely. To top it off we all had the affogato for dessert, which I will admit none of us tried before…… delicious! I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough.

Amazing food in a unique setting. We had dinner at The Butter Factory as our final night staying in Culburra Beach. We really enjoyed this welcoming family-run restaurant in a historic and picturesque setting. We had scallops, steak, chicken, lamb and tofu and all were presented beautifully and tasted divine. Then there was the chocolate honeycomb mousse for dessert, simply heavenly. I can’t recommend this spot more, an undiscovered gem.

Tip: come at an earlier time slot and order asap. Being a third large group that summer’s night and not ordering our food straight away led to a very long wait behind another large table that arrived after us. About 40-45 mins after sitting down was when we saw our entrees / starters and the kids got their meals. Service kept asking if we were ok for drinks while waiting. We regretted having spent the first 7 minutes of sitting down deciding what to drink. Learn from us. Setting is rustic and charming with history. The food had more misses than hits for us, though I appreciated the homecooked flavour of the linguine and fresh seafood after having eaten out for all our meals during our summer’s getaway. Kids meals were good. The lamb rump was dry. The desserts are very sweet. Presentation of the entrees looked amateurish. We’d still return given limited dining options in the area, and prices were fair. Would try different dishes and learn from our own mistakes with regards to timing.

3rd August 2024 - Lunch This was a fantastic restaurant that had the backdrop of a beautiful farming landscape with fresh country air and the interior and exterior decor to coincide with the surrounds. From the moment we entered, all staff we encountered were friendly and helpful and personable. The food was delicious and very well plated. We had an entree of gnocchi which was just sensational and the four of us ordered 2 x seafood platters to share between us. Loved it. The amenities were nice and clean which I always feel is important. Definitely do yourself a favour and visit the Butter Factory Restaurant - I'm glad we did.

This was our second year celebrating Christmas with great friends. Tonight, like last year the food was exceptional. Tonight, like last year, however, the bar service was VERY disappointing. Lack of staff, unorganised and compared to the food waiters, a huge contrast of disappointment. When paying (for the set Christmas menu) the staff were more than fine with split bills, however I believe when the manager (possibly owner) realised she was very unreceptive to this, although she did let it happen. It was quite disappointing that a young, very sympathetic and understanding staff member came to apologise, which she should NOT have had to do.

The Butter Factory failed to meet our expectations in every aspect of service. From the moment we arrived, we experienced a series of disappointments, starting with a five-minute wait at the entrance before being seated. The room's ambiance was unpleasant, characterized by excessive noise, harsh lighting, and noticeable cleanliness issues, including dusty windows and floors. We requested to move outside, taking initiative due to the waitress's swift departure. However, our relocation brought additional delays, including a 25-minute wait for order-taking and a 30-minute wait for drinks and appetizers, which were uninspiring. The duck's flavor profile was surprisingly similar to Christmas ham. Following an extended wait of 1.5 hours, our main courses arrived, with the steak being predominantly fat, underweight, and lacking flavor. In contrast, the fish was satisfactory. The service was remarkably subpar, provided by an unusually young staff member. Wine service was also inadequate, with bottles being placed on tables without being poured. We felt overlooked, and the overall service lacked attention to detail and integrity. The ambiance was equally uninviting. As a result, we do not intend to return or recommend this establishment, reflecting the widespread dissatisfaction among patrons

Great place to dine. The food was delicious. We loved the steak with the butter. The butter was unique and delicious. Paired well with the steak. The crispy pork belly was nice and tender with a crisp to it. The sous vide chicken was soft but was probably our least favourite dish. It wasn’t so special. We also had the dessert wine. Both very delicious. We didn’t like the fact that there were flies pestering us while we were eating, and the fact that there were spiderwebs on the chairs. Always accidentally grabbing a spiderweb while trying to move our chairs in.

We just had a fantastic meal at the Butterfactory restaurant. Maria is a wonderful host who talked us through the menu and was very friendly and helpful. This was our second time eating here after having a great experience one year ago. Sometimes visiting a restaurant a second time can be disappointing but not here. It was just as good if not better than last time. All of the food we ate was delicious. The home baked bread was soft and warm straight out of the oven. The seafood platters were sensational. Very generous sizes and a great assortment of tasty seafood. We barely had room left but we managed to squeeze some dessert in too. If you are ever around Pyree I highly recommend you visit the Butterfactory. Even if you are not it's definitely worth the drive.

Yelp
The Butterfactory is a food lovers heaven. The menu is simple yet appealing, and the wine list is pretty extensive. We ate as a group of 4, and it was impossible not to try everyone else's meals, they all looked and tasted so good. Portion sizes are great, no one went home hungry. Only fault was the service in the beginning, seemed like a newby - we managed to get hold of another waitress who knew the menu/ingredients inside out and was more than happy to help. 4 people, entree, main, dessert and a few wines came to a grand total of $350ish.. Well worth it and highly recommended.
