Where to Stay in Vancouver When You Visit (Updated 2025)

"Housed in a late-1800s building, this party hostel has a super lively bar that draws locals — it can get incredibly loud (bring earplugs!), which also makes it very easy to meet people. Dorm beds are comfy though they lack curtains and outlets; there are lockers for storage, and while breakfast isn't included the food is excellent (eggs, bacon, hash browns and veg options)." - Matthew Kepnes

The 5 Best Hostels in Vancouver (Updated 2025)

"In Gastown, this Cambie hostel trades on its central location and comfortable beds more than on quiet or design: there’s a small common room for mingling and a bar (the Cambie) that draws local crowds and can get incredibly loud — bring noise-canceling headphones if you’re sensitive. Like its sister property, it has a resident housecat, a small kitchen, and cramped showers located close to the toilets; the building dates to the late 1800s and could use renovation. If you want direct access to Gastown’s bars and restaurants, this is a convenient spot, and they also offer a 20% discount voucher for the Cambie Pub." - Matthew Kepnes

If you come here for a great night's sleep, this place is not a choice cause the first floor is a live nightclub with music until 3 am. But if you come here for fun, then this is your choice. This is an old building, but it is nice. They clean their washrooms very well, the kitchen is well-organized, the location is perfect, and it's very close to public transportation. Everything is within walking distance. Overall, it was a decent stay.

Came here for three nights as a solo traveller. I'm long out of my backpacking years, but I knew what to expect going in from staying in cheap party hostels elsewhere. Brought earplugs, kept my expectations in check, was not disappointed! It's an old building so has its quirks. The showers are funky in the morning, but hot once they get going. You def need to sleep with the windows open and the fan pulling outdoor air into the room to keep it feeling fresh. I bumped myself up to a 4 bed mix dorm, got placed in with one other girl and we had the place to ourselves our entire stay. Was on the third floor so there wasn't any bass bumping under us all night, but the street was pretty loud until midnight or so. Had great sleeps though, the beds are clean and comfy. Cages under the beds are your secure storage so make sure to bring your own lock. They were roomy so no issues there. The staff are absolutely amazingly kind and helpful. Be lovely to them! I left a shirt behind and they were really helpful letting me know when they found it. The owner/operator could afford to spruce the place up a bit and add some quality of life perks. Update the floors, the shower heads, and maybe some curtains for the beds for privacy. A private place to change in the women's bathrooms would be a game changer too! Otherwise I have no complaints. Will come here again for my stay. Cheap and pleasant. Remember to adjust your expectations when you stay in the cheapest spot in town, and try to have fun. It's just a bed to crash in, not a five star hotel. ;)

Happy place in the very downtown! The team is very nice and very helpful, the place is clean even if a bit old, but this can be its enchantment! The area is great to be close to the many downtown amenities, but it's also a bit controversial for people living in the street. Still it looks safe and we hope it's getting better. The downstairs bar is popular and fun.

Best hostel in Vancouver, great location, clean, comfy beds and close to loads of restaurants and bars. Jose is the greatest. He deserves a rise. Took good care of me and told me everything there is to know not only about the city but also the surroundings

You get what you pay for. They switched me to a room that had open windows. My roommates in both rooms were clean and safe people. Saw The Who at the rogers centre, then I checked out the latin party in the bar next door. Staff were friendly. Its a "party hostel" not a 5 star hotel. Cry about it.

Stayed for 1 night while visiting Vancouver and have to admit I’m not likely to book again if I was to visit the city. Very thin bedding and a cushion for a pillow. Noise until 2am from the bar downstairs so got hardly any sleep. The hallways smelled and it didn’t look like the place had been cleaned recently. It did the job as a bed for the night but as someone who stays regularly in hostels I have to admit this is up there was one of the lowest in terms of experience. The saving grace was the staff who were friendly and polite. Admittedly it is an old building however this should not be an excuse for the cleanliness of the place.

the hostel is really well located with the Waterfront station nearby the rooms are okay, between 2 and 8 beds with storage for each bed, the men’s bathrooms are really modern whereas the women’s bathrooms are really tight & old… on the first floor 2 cats are living their best life :) the bar located in the basement of the hostel is playing loud music, often till 2 in the night that you can hear loud and clear on the first floor (people singing karaoke as well…) unfortunately the staff is not the kindest - for a short stay it is alright but definitely bring noise cancelling headphones

Do not go there. Impossible to sleep. Showers are minuscule. The noise is super disruptive. The bunk beds are old so anytime someone moves it shakes the entire bed. Slept barely 1-2 hours. Very well located. Good night life in the bar. Go to HI Jericho if you want a minimum of peace, stay at the Cambie if you intend to party all night and sleep on the plane, but you might as well rent a locker.
