My feedback is regarding the pub/restaurant not the accommodation. My friend had booked a table for four at 5:45pm, we ordered our food at around 6:10pm (3 x burgers, 1 x cauliflower steak). At the time we were told there would be a 40 minute wait, we had an event at 7:30 that was very close by so it wasn’t a problem. However, only one meal arrived at around 6:45pm and three of us were still waiting at 7pm; at no point were we advised of a further delay. While they did refund our meals and were apologetic, I won’t be back there again; there were others going to the same event as us that also missed out on meals! There was a private event on but, the pub wasn’t overly busy so it appears they weren’t well organised.

Stayed single room w shared bathroom. Room w a face basin however the mirror is place too high (good if u are 1.9m tall) Toilet n bathroom are a but scary w timer automatic switch of lights in bath cubicle n toilet cubicle n common area within the bath area. Very scary especially bathing at night.

I strongly advise against anyone staying here unless necessary. The management is petty and incredibly unreasonable. A fellow backpacker did not have a pillow, so I grabbed one from an empty bed in my room for them. There was nobody at the front desk to help at the time. I was kind enough to notify the desk staff later, and they charged me for an extra bed and treated me like a thief, claiming that I "took something that wasn't mine." Scummy treatment toward somebody only trying to be helpful and honest. Some of the folks I shared my room with also had no consideration. Watching videos with audio, closing the door hard, and turning on the room light throughout the night. There is a cheaper hostel in town and it's better.

TLDR: Won't stay there again. Location: Convenient to everything like restaurants, Mt Vic, waterfront, bus to airport. Price: Price was right for my own room (w/ shared bathroom) at about $70/night. Noise: It’s an old building in the city centre, so you definitely need earplugs. However on the second night there, earplugs were not enough — the noise was coming from their own bar, and you could feel it through the hotel. I called down to reception, and all they would do is ask them to turn it down, which of course didn’t solve the problem. I ended up having to call municipal noise control. Wifi: Barely worked, ended up having to use a lot of my phone data. Service: When I arrived, the woman working at the front desk was so engrossed in her phone, she made me feel like I was interrupting her because I wanted to check in. Rooms: Small but functional, with an old British style sink (with a cold tap and a Too Hot tap; no “just right”), mini fridge, electric kettle, and a weird chest of drawers with carpet on the top. The main thing that could really used a clean is the windows, pictured. Vibe: It’s hard to describe the vibe of this place: maybe 1800s NZ boarding house meets 2000s NZ rural pub. The bar downstairs has a vibe that’s very off; it’s mostly men in there, horse racing on the TV, you can imagine they’d be smoking in there if still allowed.

I stayed in a basic room with shared bathroom. The hotel has an old style elevator which is cool. The room comes w a heater and a face basin with a mirror which is too high unless you are 1.9m to 2m tall. Lol.A fridge, a kettle , coffee, tea , cocoa powder and milk for coffee are provided. It also provide a bath soap and towel. The hotel entrance are locked after 5pm or 6pm for the safety of the hotel guests as there are no receptionist after 22:00hours.Cons :- The shower area light auto switched off 3-5mins thus it’s scary when u are still showering , the whole place turned dark. Both the shower cubicle and the common area in the shower area are scary when they are in total darkness. This is negative as not the right way to save electricity I guess and risk falls as well.U can parked your luggage after you checkout for free as well. Lastly the hotel is 20min walk from the Railway station or NZD11 on Uber. And walking distance to the Pier for some high end dining as well as nice eateries within the city centre.

Absolutely Brilliant Service. Awesome communication. Enjoyed the 5 hours I stayed in the Typical Vintage Wellington Room. Felt so refreshed. Definitely can't wait to stay there again. Thanks again for your help.

Really nice, basic hotel (way nicer than we expected for the price we paid). Everything we needed for a short stay and right in the centre of town. Huge, comfy beds. Plus you get a discount at the pub downstairs if you’re a guest!

Mat race was very good we were in a single room with a double bed… our room was clean, we even had a fridge and a sink. However it was very loud at night because of the street next to the hotel. The toilets and showers were ok but not super clean. Nevertheless for the price it was a good quality.

Yelp
My first time to Wellington, we spend a few days here. It is a lovely hotel. Rooms are clean and tidy . You do however have a shared bathroom. This hotel caters for backpackers too. There is a shared kitchen you can use as well as a washing machine and dryer. Down stairs is a bar and restaurant that serves delicious meals.

Yelp
Right on the river front and part of a wonderful hotel, this hostel is unique in my experience. Essentially, the owners have provided posh hotel rooms, and equally nice but non-suite hostel rooms. They even have teasmaids and TVs! If I had one quibble it's that the lights in the bathroom are on a timer and go out after a few minutes - usually just as you're trying to get the soap out of your eyes. The bar on the ground floor is great and they do backpacker specials like a BBQ once a week which are great value. Failing that, there's a cracking Chinese a few doors up ;)
