Samoset Resort in Maine Has Heated Igloos, an Ice Bar, and an Oceanfront Hot Tub for a Magical Winter Vacation

"Being close to the Camden Snow Bowl meant I could hit the slopes and even try something new—a ride down the renowned toboggan chute—which is a great draw for outdoor enthusiasts." - Erinne Magee Erinne Magee Erinne Magee is former lifestyle writer with 10 years experience. Awesome mountain, not crowded. 2 chair lifts, plenty of groomed trails and ungroomed back country like trails. Good food in the lodge. Draft beer options. We had a great time here, thank you!

Google
Epic adventure if you want to go down on a Toboggan at 35 to 40mph onto an ice & snow covered pond! We loved it, and a great energetic & fun atmosphere to boot!

We cannot speak to a winter experience at the Snow Bowl. Rather, we went for their October, fall weekend ski-lift chair rides. It was a fun experience that we will likely do again and that we have highly recommended to friends. It was a damp day and plastic sheeting was offered for protection. Views of the lake and bay. The lift operators were sweet and very kind in helping us non athletes on and off the lift. Some people opted a one way ride and walked down. The Ski Patrol offered pizza for a suggested donation to their endeavors. Plus we saw a skeleton!

Great ski area for all ages and ability levels! The people are friendly, the prices are right, the terrain is fun, and it's the only ski area in the eastern US that you can see the ocean from! The only downside is that the food in the lodge is pricey for relatively small portions; I'd recommend bringing your own.

The best family friendly local ski mountain one could ever hope for. Never a long lift line, fun terrain, good grooming and snowmaking, and wonderful staff. Truly a Camden gem.

Beautiful location with well maintained hills. The views are beautiful and look quite nice even from the ground which is where I spent most of my time. The staff is extremely patient and helpful. We reserved gear and lift passes online the day before and the staff helped us get fitted for everything we needed. There are several areas for different skill levels and while I barely made it past the parking lot my kids had a blast. Speaking of kids there are a lot. Predominantly teens and younger. This is truly a family friendly space and everyone is incredibly kind and looks out for one another. There is a "lodge" which is more like a snack bar. They have burgers, coffee, poutine, etc. If you're not a skier then just pay for the 1/2 day as it's ample time to fall on your rump and twist your legs in unique positions. I don't plan to ever ski again but I did have a fun time while here.

Came here for the fall foliage ski lift rides. It was a beautiful day, the ride up and down was great and everyone there was very nice! Totally worth the price. There was even a trail to the summit once you get to the top.

My wife had never been skiing, at 41 years old and after 1 private lesson with Jeff, she is now hooked. I was able to ski all day while she worked the beginners area and we would meet up after each run. The staff simply loves what they do here and that made for a wonderful day all around

Yelp
If you're in Midcoast Maine in late January/early February, the annual Toboggan Championships in Camden are a must-do. So fun to watch the competitors, walk out on the ice, check out the vendors and the food trucks, and just bask in one of the pleasures of wintertime in Maine. Dress warmly and have FUN!

Yelp
Outdoor concert venue during the summer among other things. We went for the free concert put on by the Camden Opera House. Camden Opera House presents free concerts at the Camden Snow Bowl, 20 Barnestown Road, Sundays in August. Each week features a different genre. BYO picnics and lawn seating. We were there to hear The Gawler Family Band. A local band that plays folk music with a variety of instruments and sing. We enjoyed it but the slope we walked up to sit on had a few very muddy areas so be mindful.

Yelp
This review is for the toboggan chute only. I have been wanting to go down the Camden snow bowl toboggan chute for sooo long and I finally did this year! The toboggan chute is a long wooden trough slide that empties out onto the frozen lake. It's so Maine! The toboggan chute is only open in the winter on weekends until the lake thaws. Its $10 per person for an hour and you have to bring the toboggan back up after you ride down. The lake you empty out on is full of locals ice fishing so it's a fun time. The staff were friendly and it's definitely a very different experience from sledding. Unfortunately I can't say much about the skiing and snowboarding but looks not too bad! Plenty of people and folks seemed to be social distancing appropriately. Lots of trails so seems like a good time for everyone.

Yelp
SNOW. MUCH. FUN. My partner and I just returned from a trip to Maine, Camden specifically. The Camden Snow Bowl was a highlight. We had a blast. The area had just had a significant storm so conditions were perfect for us. We are novices to the sport and this was the perfect spot for us. We will return.

Yelp
We had an awesome time here. All of the customer service was great! We traveled here from Maryland and we were new to skiing. Everyone was very welcoming! We took the private ski lesson with Matt and had a great time! He was great at teaching and really patient. I would love to visit again!

Yelp
This is not a serious skiers or a resort lovers paradise but for beginner and intermediate it's just wonderful. They have great lessons with super nice and competent staff. Rentals are done well and efficiently. Has a small cafe with decent food. A ski shop. Host a serious toboggan tube that is used fir the nationals each year. Has a gorgeous lake, near the quaint town of Camden, near the bay. Easy to escape to town to eat and come back. Affordable too. Get the 3 day beginner special with lessons each morning and practice skiing thereafter....comes with lift pass fir 3 days. I think rental too.

Yelp
Ski rental over here is such a joke especially with their attitude. Wouldn't loan me ski boots and had to purchase the whole package yet if you go on the website they do rentals for them. The people selling tickets and at the rentals have absolutely horrible attitudes and no customer service whatsoever with the way they talk and treat customers. Shocking especially seeing that this is a family oriented mountain/establishment. I ultimately got a refund for the rentals and sold my lift tickets. Never coming back again.

Yelp
Great beginner mountain. LOCALS ONLY. Got ticket for lift, rental, and lesson on liftopia for $18. {--- couldn't argue for that price. Local mountain. The lady at the desk was confused when she saw my ticket from liftopia. She claimed it was only for snowboard, it clearly stated "ski or snowboard lesson". She was hesitant on giving me ski rentals (she really wanted to give me snowboard). She was not too friendly, as I had never been to this "hill" before. I had to ask where to go to pick up rentals. Lift tickets in one building. Rentals in another building. Form is for up to 3 people to fill out. 1 lift, 1 t-bar. The lesson stated that we would get our lift ticket after the lesson, however we got our tickets prior to rentals. When seeing her write my name down under my ski instructor, I asked if that's who I should be looking for. She got upset and said, don't worry about it. They will find you. I then had to ask where to go to meet my ski instructor. Email: From previous experience, beginner lesson lift tickets are limited to certain lifts. I emailed ahead of time to try to gain a better perspective. The turn around time for an email was 7 business days. Therefore, it was too late. I had already gone to the mountain before getting a response. Ski instructor: 1 extra star because he was very friendly and helpful.

Yelp
Indoor areas was overcrowded and chaotic, which isn't a big deal but the lady at the rental counter with the blue/green glasses is so not hospitable. She was so rude numerous times. She seems to know a lot and is a get-it-done kinda hustle. Other girls were okay, not super nice but definitely not rude enough to leave an impression. The older lady at the ticketing counter was very sweet.

Yelp
Five stars!!....where the (ski) mountains meet the Sea! ...family friendly, accessible, affordable...all in the context of picturesque Camden, Maine...known for some of New England's best cuisine and accommodations!
