Yelp
What a disappointment for a beautiful hotel with so much potential.
In a nutshell, unprofessional employees, a confused sales staff, odd rooms, long hallways that echo every little sound, no food, and hookers.
We visited the hotel after speaking with three different people about hosting an event in their event space which is lovely! After three different stories, three different proposals (with different prices), and multiple phone calls, we decided to drive to Tulsa and just see for ourselves. One of our sales contacts 'booked' our room.
When we arrived, there was no reservation and the only available room was substantially more than we were told. That was the universe telling us to leave; we didn't listen.
The clerk was unsympathetic and told us that 'they screw up all the time' and then laughed and said "Hey, we need the money, what's a little extra?" We ended up paying a lot of money for a room that was quirky and cool, but poorly thought out. There was no room for a computer, the bathroom had a odd step that kept tripping us, and the only place to sit was the bed, an ugly, uncomfortable chair, or a delicate chair by the tiny vanity. The bed was comfortable and there was a little refrigerator. The coffee maker was nifty, but it was hard to get excited about Folger's coffee.
There is no food offered at the hotel, but they offer cereal and yogurt in the lobby. And do-it-yourself Folger's coffee (I guess they're really proud of their Keurigs!). The desk clerk would not get off a cell phone long enough to suggest a place for dinner, but the hookers in the parking lot pointed us to 'Cherry Street.' Don't laugh, that's what she said!
Oh yes, we could have had drinks in the 'bar' that looks more like a shoe-shine stand and was full of college kids.
That night, we thought the hooker and the college kids were having a fraternity party in the hallway. While the noise came from the far side of the hotel, the sound bounced throughout the hotel. Guests commiserated in the hallways and calls to the front desk did no good. But the rattle of the air conditioner helped mask the noise!
We woke to sunlight streaming through the flimsy curtains the next day. We had our appointment with the sales person and toured the space we were considering for our event. As stated earlier, the space is beautiful. We heard all about the hotel's history (neat), how the owners were clueless and difficult (really?!), and how they were hiring a new manager to sort things out (hopeful). But when we heard yet a fourth proposal, we decided to really look at all of the mistakes we'd already seen. In the end, the level of service we received demonstrated the care our guests would receive and we ended up booking elsewhere.
Which is a shame, because this could be a cool place!
