The Capaldi Hotel & Spa, Lalla Takerkoust, Atlas Mountains, Morocco - Explore & Book

"Imagine you have a best friend with a fabulous country home: spacious guest quarters with super-kingsize beds and fireplaces, fresh flowers and a stack of good books by your pillow, landscaped gardens with expansive views, and plenty of places to hide away. That’s exactly what Ed and Tara Lyle envisioned when they created The Capaldi Hotel & Spa, set in the grounds of a 4-hectare former olive farm in the foothills of the Atlas Mountains, a 35-minute drive from Marrakech and its airport.Their version comes fully loaded: 23 Moroccan-Zen rooms and suites (plus 2 private villas) in a resort-style oasis, with 2 pools, a spa, a lantern-lit roof terrace, exceptional cuisine from a chef who embraces your preferences - and of course the warm hospitality you’d expect as guests of fortunate friends. Global travellers who fell under Morocco’s spell, the Lyles are fun and attentive hosts, orchestrating activities, fetching blankets on chilly evenings, and sending you off on explorations with a picnic lunch. It’s a wonderfully relaxing and romantic way to experience the Moroccan countryside, and the perfect complement to a few days at their Marrakech riad. Highs Accessible luxury, with rooms and suites to suit all budgets (most with terraces and some with private pools)Charming and unpretentious hosts who bend over backwards to make your stay perfect but also respect your privacyYear-round amenities - one of the pools is heated, and there’s a library, a spa, cosy salons, indoor and outdoor fireplaces, even a cinemaSuperb international cuisine that draws residents of Marrakech out to the restaurantClose to a diverse set of adventures, including watersports on Lake Lalla Takerkoust, dune-buggy excursions and camel rides in the Agafay Desert, and guided treks in the mountains Lows No children under 12 - this is very much a hotel for couples and honeymoonersNo in-room TVs, although the cinema has a big screen for watching films and sportsThere are 3 lakeside restaurants within a 45-minute walking distance, which may be too far for some, but an organic farm serving food is a little closer" - Joyce Copeland

The Capaldi is a beautiful hotel with stunning grounds, pools and gardens. The rooms are gorgeously designed and comfy to stay in. We looked at the reviews ahead of our trip and wondered why every review mentioned Carol. Then we met Carol, and it all makes sense. Carol is the most wonderful and welcoming hotel manager - she made sure to say hello and goodbye when we arrived and left and checked in on our stay throughout. No ask was too big for her and the team - especially the restaurant team who kindly whipped up lots of delicious vegetarian food for us, and even hand cooked fresh potato crisps for me when I wanted a snack in the middle of the day! I was expecting a little more Moroccan culture and influence weaved in the overall hotel experience, however after speaking to the owner, it became apparent he was trying to cater more towards tourists who wanted a purely “western” luxury hotel experience rather than mixing the best of authentic Moroccan culture (yes, admitingly overwhelming at times as a UK traveller) with a luxury hotel experience. For example, I would have loved to see more authentic Moroccan food on the menu and the staff share more about their culture and language in our interactions. We love to build connections and have conversations with the staff, learn basic words of the language etc, and don’t necessarily need to be formally waited on hand and foot all the time. Although really friendly, It sometimes seemed like the staff were told not to talk Arabic or share much about Moroccan culture, which we would have actually loved to hear about given we were in Morocco. Regardless, Marrakech is only 35 mins away from the hotel so there is plenty of authentic Moroccan culture and more of the true Morocco to experience not very far away (even can be done as a day trip). Highly recommend this hotel for a quiet and peaceful break - it was amazing in between visiting Moroccan cities with a much faster pace. Thank you Capaldi for a lovely stay!

We had a truly wonderful stay at The Capaldi Hotel in Morocco. The hotel is expertly run by the owner, Ed, whose attention to detail is evident throughout. The property is beautifully and sympathetically furnished in a traditional Moroccan style, creating a warm and authentic atmosphere. The restaurant is excellent, with a menu that changes daily and consistently delivers delicious dishes. Service was outstanding across the board—reception, housekeeping, and the restaurant team were all friendly, attentive, and professional. The location is stunning, with breathtaking views of the Atlas Mountains. The hotel itself feels spacious and peaceful, set within extensive grounds and offering two lovely pools. Our room was fantastic; we stayed in a deluxe suite with two private terraces, which made the experience even more special. We enjoyed every moment of our stay and have already booked to return. Highly recommended!

Absolute class. The views of the Atlas Mountains surrounding the hotel are some of the best Iv ever seen. The capaldi is a little slice of heaven. The heated pool is amazing. The open fires inside and outside. The food is delicious. Couldn’t recommend more

Wonderful haven after bustling Marrakech.|Nice grounds with lots of different corners to sit so it never feels busy. |Small pool was nicely heated so we spent a lot of time there, gym has enough equipment for a reasonable workout.|We were in the farmhouse room and they had kindly upgraded us to one with a terrace. The room was spacious and relaxing and I loved the rosemary scented toiletries.|No kettle in the room - we possibly could have asked for one. ||It is possible to get all your meals at the Capaldi restaurant. We had dinner all 3 nights and food was delicious although sometimes feels a bit soulless in the dining room if there aren’t many guests. The owners pop in to speak to all of the guests which is a nice touch. The lunch menu had lots of choice and was reasonably priced. A couple of days we walked to Le Flouka and got a taxi back ( 100 dirham) for a bit of variety.||Breakfast was a bit repetitive and I think the orange juice was concentrated rather than fresh.||The Capaldi is a wonderful spot to decompress and relax. There isn’t much to do in the general area although husband enjoyed his hiking trip arranged through the hotel. ||I would definitely recommend for the overall experience. I felt very cocooned and safe at the Capaldi . If we ever do come back to Morocco I will return here.

We were looking for somewhere to really relax after a very full on build up to Christmas and a busy year . The Capaldi provided us that in buckets! We made the most of the surrounding area as well - with a couple of hikes, visit to the Berber market and an afternoon and evening in Marrakesh. The evening menus at The Capaldi are fabulous as well (although, not much choice if you are veggie or prefer veggie options) and our pool suite was perfect for us to relax in, even on cloudy days.

A beautiful hotel with incredible grounds. Located just 45 minutes from Marrakech it's another world in the foothills of the Atlas Mountains. |The suites are spacious; the restaurant is excellent; 2 pools and little alcoves if you want to stay out of the sun. Also, there are comfortable chairs set up around the property. It is just heavenly.|But, the best part of The Capaldi is the manager, Carole. I cannot say enough about her. She meets and greets you on arrival, she talks to every guest and she is the heartbeat of this hotel. She heard it was our anniversary on the day we arrived and when we came to the restaurant there was a special table set up at the pool with decorations and it was really so lovely. I must also say that the staff is also fantastic.|We loved The Capaldi.

I have just had a 5 day break at The Capaldi hotel and it was heavenly. The location is quiet and majestically beautiful at the foot of the Atlas Mountains. The hotel itself is understated and classy…beautifully curated furnishings and decoration…but also cosy, homely and comfortable. Staff are very friendly and helpful….the manager Carol is a joy!! I enjoyed one of the best spa treatments ever and highly recommend the hammam. If you are looking for nightlife and lots to do then The Capaldi isn’t for you….however if you want tranquility and peace with beautiful surroundings with the hassle and bustle of Marrakech only 30 minutes away then you will love it. I will be coming back in the spring!

If there is a bad review for The Capaldi know only one thing it’s about that person not The Capaldi. In other hotels you are a number, in this hotel you are always a person who is cared for. The food is lovely, there’s something for most people, it’s not a tasting menu, it’s a true selection of thoughtful offerings. The staff are kind, there’s something treatments are lovely, the team from the owners Ed and Tara are woven into the fabric, not aloof, they make the effort and they care, not just about the hotel, but the community and environment. If people get their towels washed it’s because they are dirty, if you don’t want them washed leave them to dry in the sun and reuse them. This is a total down tools and relax holiday, every day greets you like a pleasure. And Carol the new manager, radiates warmth, hospitality and positivity. This place is a gift, walking through the doors never ceases to fill me with joy and certainty of a good trip, I have brought different friends, recommended clients, it’s always bliss!
