The Capaldi is a beautiful hotel with stunning grounds, pools and gardens. The rooms are gorgeously designed and comfy to stay in. We looked at the reviews ahead of our trip and wondered why every review mentioned Carol. Then we met Carol, and it all makes sense. Carol is the most wonderful and welcoming hotel manager - she made sure to say hello and goodbye when we arrived and left and checked in on our stay throughout. No ask was too big for her and the team - especially the restaurant team who kindly whipped up lots of delicious vegetarian food for us, and even hand cooked fresh potato crisps for me when I wanted a snack in the middle of the day!
I was expecting a little more Moroccan culture and influence weaved in the overall hotel experience, however after speaking to the owner, it became apparent he was trying to cater more towards tourists who wanted a purely “western” luxury hotel experience rather than mixing the best of authentic Moroccan culture (yes, admitingly overwhelming at times as a UK traveller) with a luxury hotel experience. For example, I would have loved to see more authentic Moroccan food on the menu and the staff share more about their culture and language in our interactions. We love to build connections and have conversations with the staff, learn basic words of the language etc, and don’t necessarily need to be formally waited on hand and foot all the time. Although really friendly, It sometimes seemed like the staff were told not to talk Arabic or share much about Moroccan culture, which we would have actually loved to hear about given we were in Morocco. Regardless, Marrakech is only 35 mins away from the hotel so there is plenty of authentic Moroccan culture and more of the true Morocco to experience not very far away (even can be done as a day trip).
Highly recommend this hotel for a quiet and peaceful break - it was amazing in between visiting Moroccan cities with a much faster pace.
Thank you Capaldi for a lovely stay!
