What a great experience at a good price. We played the back nine at 7:15. We rented clubs and a cart and paid 80 each. The clubs were the new Taylor Made drivers and irons and putter. They gave you 3 balls and a bag of tees. The course is in amazing condition the fairways and greens were very well maintained. The course is a lot of fun with a good mix of par 3, 4, and 5’s. If you want to golf on the cape and need to rent clubs, definitely come to the Captains golf course.

Overall the course was good. Greens were good. A bit slow but understandable to keep greens a bit thicker than usual for this time of year . Checking in was good. Practice range is across the street down a ways so you need to use your car to get to the practice range.

Google
Great spot. The course was sold out and we had a late (3:30) tee time so I thought it would be slow. We went off right on time, paxe.of play was excellent, course was in solid shape. Will definitely come back.

The Captain's Course is a beautiful municipal gold course in Brewster on Cape Cod. It is a large course with a Starboard and a Port side of 18 holes each. The course is lovely but tight and many are long holes. Fairways are sometimes very close to one another. There is a clubhouse with a small bar and a grill where you can make a pitstop after the 9th hole. Also in the clubhouse is a golf shop where they sell very nice golf clothing, balls and other supplies. A fine way to spend a sunny day on the Cape! It can be gutsy though.

Great Cape Cod golf course in Brewster MA. 36 holes. Played the Pirt course. Course in fantastic condition. Greens were very well kept (and kind of slow). Bunkers had great sand. Easy to get to. Plenty of parking. Highly recommended.

Starboard is a classic layout and a really good golf course.

The course itself is really nice, it can be very challenging but in great shape. With that said, the rangers on the course are condescending and all over you. They really pack the course in so it can play slow but constantly on top of you. After a pretty quick pit stop at the turn, we fell maybe a hole behind (we were not really behind the pace time, pacing for 4 hours 30 minutes which for a Sunday on the cape doesn’t seem that bad) and the ranger waited for us on the 11th tee, we got a 5 minute lecture on how to play faster. They even told us we weren’t allowed to pull the pin on the green because it takes too much time. Turns out we were a hole behind because the group in front of us only played 9 holes. Advice for them: 1. Don’t be a*******, just ask if we wouldn’t mind picking up the pace. 2. If you don’t want players to stop at the turn, have a beverage cart on the course (should have it anyway when you’re paying $120/round) 3. Don’t pack in tee times to squeeze every imaginable dollar out of the day.

Well maintained, but waiting on every tee, other than that very nice

Yelp
Loved the range! I got a lot of practice in here this past summer! I didn't play the actual course but the grounds looked beautiful when I drove by.

Yelp
I come to the Cape and play here once or twice a year and I don't have enough good things to say about this place. The cost is reasonable, the courses are great for any skill range and they're well taken care of, the pace of play is always decent, and the staff is absolutely FANTASTIC. Recently, I played on a pretty dreary day where it was 45 degrees out and I was alone the whole day. Pretty sure I was the last person playing that day because they locked up the cart return right after I finished up. I realized after getting back to my car that my car key fob had bounced out of a side pocket, which you can imagine is a horrible feeling. This guy, Ed, unlocked the cart return and helped me search the cart and then rode all the way around the course with me looking for a single black key fob on a golf course at dusk. Talk about a needle in a haystack! We didn't find it so I figured it was a total goner, but he told me to come back the next day to leave my info with the front desk after they opened back up in case someone found it. It literally snowed overnight, but when my wife arrived around lunchtime to leave our info, the key was at the front desk! Ed had come back on his day off, walked his dog around the course, and found that tiny key fob in the snow!! I didn't need any more reasons to come back to this place, but I will play golf here whenever I get the chance until I can no longer swing a club. Thanks again, Ed!

Yelp
We enjoyed the layout of the course - good mix of level of difficulty- nice views - greens were not as quick as we expected. Disappointed that we had to return the cart halfway through our round 1 1/2 before sunset while we say others riding around the course!

Robert C.

Yelp
A fine public course, with a reasonably challenging layout and well kept grounds, greens and views. Probably a better course to ride, although the group ahead of us walked and slowed the pace down to almost 5 hours. The course is super busy in-season , and as a single I got matched up and started on the 10th hole Kudos to the snack bar, where my breakfast sandwich, a bacon and egg on a grilled croissant, rocked out! All in all, a great day, lots of fun sand definitely recommended.

Yelp
The Captain's Golf Course in Brewster has a private club feeling with nicely landscaped grounds, bright clubhouse with a large terrace, well stocked pro shop, driving range, and most importantly, two well maintained courses, Port being the more challenging of the two. I find it's the best option on Cape Cod for a beautiful round of serious golf on a public course. Super friendly staff to boot.

Mark R.

Yelp
While public, Captain's is professionally run. Two excellent 18 hole tracks, true greens, rangers keep place of play. Solid experience.

Yelp
Ok, wonderful course, in fact two courses; port or starboard. I've played only the starboard, and do it goes... I was by myself in a cart, ball went into the rough on the 4th... so I get this moment of stupidity where at a 60 degree incline I'm like 'I'll just ride down to get the ball' but after two feet the cart started pitching... and not in a good way. Better judgment quickly came to my cranium snd I was able to correct my situation in reverse. And that is how I almost died playing golf. Great course, less the hiking in the 4th, the 4th is the best on starboard. Old school, kind of kitsch. You won't see Gold Coast guys playing there, but you will see duffers like myself laughing and having a great time.

Yelp
Played here again in July as I do every year - course was in fantastic shape despite lots of play. Beautifully maintained and greens were in great shape. Pro Shop and Starters continue to be customer service orientated and try to please. Would give a 4.5 if available - continues the well deserved 4 Star Rating. Only minor complaint is the Grill Room continues to be always 'hot' temperature wise - and they just can't get 'the turn' right, as stopping to get anything after 9 holes is always a hassle... The Captain's has returned to former glory - as course is in phenomenal shape, even with heavy play. Rangers are polite but firm, and are committed to healthy pace of play without being jerks. Starters and pro shop staff are friendly and great. Greens and fairways are beautiful this summer. Grill room AC was broken - and they were short staffed, but food was very good. A little expensive for a weekday round with cart, but worth it. Great place for a vacation round of golf - highly recommend.

Yelp
If you want to play by yourself in the mornings OR A 7 hour round in the afternoon - this is the place for you! They don't penalize for no shows and no one follows the rules. Actually, there are no rules for the "members". Course is in 3/10 condition...the bunkers on port and starboard are the only known minerals harder than diamonds. The greens could be compared to the surface of the moon.

Yelp
This review is for the driving range. It's 2020 so it's very simple: if any place (be it restaurant, driving range, etc) is cash only AND offers no onsite ATM, it gets an automatic 1 star.

Brad D.

Yelp
I don't have much to say as this was my first time the links for real... It is beautiful, pace of play was great (ESP for someone like me who is awful,) and the driving range and putting green are great! And surprisingly, the store was very reasonably priced! I go a glove and a few beers for way less than I would have imagined. Go here, it's great! Only thing I would say is- when we arrived, they informed us that they were out of carts and push carts, and when we said "well why didn't you call us to let us know?" They replied "well how would we know when we were going to run out?" To which I replied: "Maybe when you only have 2 carts left and you know you have 12 more groups showing up in the next 30 minutes!?" They just stared at me, dumbfound. Hellloooooo? This is not complicated.

Yelp
Great course for out of towners with reasonable rates. Greens generally are slow from morning dew but speed up once they dry out around 10-11. The course is not incredibly challenging but offers great classic golf holes with beautiful topography. Staff is friendly and welcoming.

Michael S.

Yelp
Love the two courses, can be difficult at points but not overly challenging. Fairways and greens are always in good condition and a good value. Cannot forget to mention the onsite Freemans Grill is the perfect spot for lunch, dinner, and a beer before AND after the round.

Matt D.

Yelp
A great public course with two fine courses. Restaurant has taken a huge step up in 2020. It is fantastic now.

Tim E.

Yelp
I've played about 6 different courses since they opened but up after Covid. This is the first one that had raised cups on the greens. For the money they charge on a weekend this is just unacceptable. There is no fair way to determine if your ball was going to go into the hole or not. Very disappointed with this solution.

Richard S.

Yelp
Nicest golf course I've played on the Cape. People were very friendly and the price was reasonable. Course was in great shape for a Hot August. Will definitely go back.

Marc B.

Yelp
Been playing golf there every year on vacation for the past 20 years. I belong to a fine private club but Captains is my all time favorite. 2 18s, great fair and challenging layouts. Friendly people.

Michael C.

Yelp
I played the Port course yesterday for the first time in five years. The quality of the course has only improved since 2009. It would be hard to distinguish the quality of this course from a private course (hard to believe this is a muni). Tee boxes are in perfect conditions, the greens are in top flight shape (even better if folks would fix their ball marks) and the rough is lush (hint stay out of it). You can walk the course but it is hilly. I found all the holes interesting but my favorite was the short 15th. You need to draw the ball (slice it and you are dead) into the fairway. That will leave you with a short 115 yard shot into a green guarded by bunkers on the left and a pond on the right. Super hole. Overall at $74.00 for greens fees and a push cart this is a deal.

Derek K.

Yelp
This course is great!! I have a house in harwitch port and play a lot! The starboard side I would say is the best of the 2 but both are great! Great condition a little pricey but worth it! A good challenge and your drives have to be pretty where u want it but if you do end up off fairway get used to taking your medicine! Cause all you will have is a chip to the fairway nothing else! Worth going it's my favorite course of all time!!!

Ken H.

Yelp
Good course, well maintained. Good layout, we played the PORT 18. Friendly people/staff
