Very Disappointing Experience – Carlton Hotel, Kodaikanal (Booked via Agoda)
I had an extremely disappointing experience at Carlton Hotel, Kodaikanal. I had booked a “Super Deluxe” room through Agoda, but upon arrival, the hotel staff insisted that my booking was only for a Standard room. I showed them all the proof from Agoda, yet they refused to acknowledge it.
Instead of resolving the issue, the hotel pushed me to call Agoda, while Agoda pushed the blame back to the hotel. Both parties kept shifting responsibility, and as a guest, I was left feeling cheated and helpless. In the end, I was forced to stay in a lower category room than what I had paid for.
The behavior of the reception staff was highly unprofessional. They were unhelpful, indifferent, and showed no concern for the customer’s problem. Explaining my issue to them was pointless — they simply stood there without any response or empathy.
The food at the hotel was average at best, and the overall atmosphere was far from welcoming. Staff members looked disengaged and unhappy, which added to the poor experience.
This entire episode made me lose trust in both Carlton Hotel and Agoda. Customers should not have to suffer because of a lack of accountability between a hotel and a booking platform.
I would strongly caution travelers to think twice before booking here. I will not recommend Carlton Hotel, Kodaikanal.
