7 Small Wine Towns in Australia to Visit - AFAR

"In town, taste your way through some locals’ favorites at establishments like Roth’s Wine Bar or coffeehouse/wine bar hybrid Alby & Ester’s. Or head straight to the source: Wineries like the Cellar by Gilbert and Lowe Wines are set in the town’s northern reaches, while Burrundulla Wines and Moothi Estate are just to the east." - Jake Emen

We hosted our Thursday afternoon welcome drinks at Gilbert Cellar, and it was the perfect way to kick off our wedding weekend. The outdoor space was beautiful, laid-back, sunny, and such a comfortable spot for our families to relax and connect. From the start, Maddy was absolutely amazing to work with. She was so helpful, organized, and just genuinely lovely. The wine was incredible, our guests couldn’t stop talking about it, and the cheese boards were delicious and beautifully put together. It was exactly the kind of relaxed, joyful gathering we were hoping for. Huge thank you to Maddy and the Gilbert Cellar crew for making it all feel so special. We couldn’t have asked for a better start to the celebrations!

Im not a Rosè drinker or white wine in fact, but this Rosè was insanely good. We found that this place was one of the only wineries open the latest on a Sunday. A top choice regardless of the day, the vibe was magical chill. Recommend. Purchased a few bottles on the way out aswel. Worth it.

Where was the customer service i would like to know. The lady that served us when we arrived and said we just wanted a quick tasting session had clearly not been trained in customer service or didn't think we were going to buy anything and were just wanting a taste. We ended up buying $370 of wine so should have been treated better from the start. The lady that took over at the end was way nicer and helped improve the experience but first impressions have a big impact on what people think. Would suggest many other wineries in the area not because of the wines but because of the service. Treat every customer like they are going to buy wine after tasting and they mean something to you.

Nice ambience We were a group of 8 and requested wine tasting where we were asked to pay $20 for 6 serves of wine. We were prepared to buy wine. Couldn’t believe the frugal amount of wine in a small wine glass. When we asked if that was the norm , the staff replied we give 25 ml a tasting. Honestly, we are all mature wine drinkers and we know the 6 tastings did not equal a glass of wine. Very disappointing. We would have gone back for a meal but were put off by the frugal amount Never been to a winery where we’ve been served this portion. Potential sales were lost as we are big , mature wine drinkers and we know our wine Toni

Spent a beautiful afternoon in the gardens at Gilberts, sharing a cheese plate with special friends and enjoying a bottle of rosé, highly recommended. Gift, our waitress, was fantastic, extremely attentive highly recommended

(3.5 stars) You can combine your love of exploring both food and wine at The Cellar By Gilbert. Not only is it the cellar door of a sixth generation wine family, the site is also home to a local cheesemaker. The cellar door offers three structured wine flights. We went for the most expensive one—the Gilbert feature flight ($20/person)—but asked for a couple of substitutions to knock out Shiraz and put in one of the entry level wines because we wanted to taste the 2022 Gilbert Pinot Gris ($30). Made on grapes from the Hilltops region rather than locally grown, it was actually the wine I liked the most, scrubbing up as a pretty, bright daytime drinker. The only other wine I wanted to buy was the 2017 Gilbert + Gilbert Single Vineyard Riesling ($60). This museum release was again made using grapes from another region (South Australia’s Eden Valley) but despite loving the wine’s elegance and complexity, at sixty bucks a bottle, I couldn’t justify the price. The cellar door does offer a competitively priced, succinct menu of grazing boards and small plates, like marinated lamb cutlets ($23), to extend your wine tasting into a whole of lunch affair.

Should put this place in your wine tasting lists. Me and my bf had a great time. We met " Gift ", she's acknowledging us through the wine tasting flight. It's nice to have an experience with someone's who really enjoys and passionate about what they doing (working) for. And near by, after a wine tasting you can walk down for a cheese tasting as well. Its a lovely feta cheese here !!!Such a lovely place 💕
