The CENTER for Performing Arts at Rhinebeck

Lovely small performing arts venue - small but not a bad seat in the entire house. We sat in the top last row and stairs were steep with no emergency exit access up there, but I tried to not think about it and enjoy the show. The acoustics were great, the restroom was clean but the small concession at intermission quickly became overwhelmed with guests. All staff members I encountered were super helpful and pleasant and the large parking lot was appreciated. Unsure of how the venue could be updated- given the size of the space, some things are best left as is. I would definitely return and see another show.

They really put on an amazing show. Very intimate theater where there isn't a single bad seat. The amount of energy they put out and the level of the performance far outweighed something you would typically see at a local theater level. I came with and for the kids, but ended up having an amazing time as well. If you get a chance to go, I can't recommend it enough.

A wonderful resource to see live performances and shows. Brought my kids to their raptor demonstration and it was amazing. Shows here are lively as well; as it’s a smaller sized theater.

This place is so quaint and there is not a bad seat in the house. They have a small concession stand and plenty of parking. So glad to have this local spot.

My grandfather and I try to make every new show BUT LET ME TELL YOU MARY POPPINS WAS INCREDIBLEEEEEE!!!!!!!!! We just left opening night and we are still singing along. Omg so amazing

Two shows watched here thus far. Jesus Christ Superstar was transcendent! Unconventional casting. Good amplification without being overly loud. Intimate seating with good views from anywhere in the house. The only downside is that there are only three single-occupant bathrooms, so the lines during intermission will be long. Concessions available. Ticketing on-site and on-line. Ample parking out front.

A really terrific, intimate theater venue with frequent quality productions. Staff and volunteers are outstanding.

An incredible gem in the HV! I've gone to shows here over the years and the talent is always INCRRDIBLE! Not your average "community theater" show... most of this talent could/should be on broadway! Definitely check out a performance! The building being a barns and small theater is very quaint and intimate, which makes performances all that more special!

Ourselves, and another couple went to see the comedy routines last Friday night. We didn't know what to expect; because a lot of stand up Comedians tend to be vulgar, mock the audience, and are not very funny. Which is why we haven't been to one in a very long time. The place maybe in the wilderness but, it's an amazing venue and very comfortable inside. The seats are staggered well enough so you can see over anyone's head, and you're not very far from the stage. It was a little over two hours with a short intermission in the middle of several comedian's routines. There are some very light refreshments, wine, and soft drinks. It would have been nice if there was something a little more substantial then candy bars and bags of chips. That's the only complaint. Otherwise, I would go again. But I would eat first.

Last night my wife and I saw their production of "Hedwig and the Angry Inch". This production exceeded all of our expectations. I have seen dozens of broadway shows, and this production was comparable. Sean Matthew Whiteford was transcendent as Hedwig and gave the performance his all. I would highly recommend anyone traveling in the area to check out a production.

I've never been one to really enjoy the theater, but take this place with a grain of salt. Even though this place is a restored barn, it doesn't smell all that barn-like to me. All the seats are close to the action; you even enter onto the edge of the wooden stage as you proceed from the ticket area to the viewing area. Employees are decent and seem to know what they're doing. The only problem I have here are the comforts that their seats provide. The seats aren't very comfortable at all. For the cost, you'd expect close to movie theater like conditions with a slight gap between the seats, but that's not what you'll find here. What you will find are bleacher-like seating arrangements with no armrest space between the seats, and with the few seats that are theater-like, these chairs have seen better days. I do feel that this is a good place to go, if you want to know all the stars of the production, before you actually see the production itself; The entrance doors to the casts' dressing rooms can be accessed from the main ticketing area, and on top of that, what you'll also find is the entrance doorway for the instrumentalists to warm-up, accessible also from here (and as can be heard from this area) too. I do have a qualm with the staff here when it relates to the snack-bar food they serve. Food is expensive and never readily available. There's always a line for the snack-bar, and when your trying to also buy tickets from the same venue area, it makes it impossible to try and navigate yourself around the backstage area. Productions tend to be long and drawn out, but for the age and talents of most of the actors, it all boils down to differences in YOUR opinion.

How could you not give it five stars? The sets are always amazing, the actors they find are incredible and you get all the charms of being in a barn without the smell of livestock!

Great place to take the entire family. Tickets are reasonably priced and the shows are high quality.

God bless this sacred place, the wonderful productions they put on, and the culture and invaluable arts education they bring to the Hudson Valley for individuals and families alike to learn and grow together.

My daughter took a summer camp session here. During the end of week performance, one of the girls in the class forgot a line and was continuing her monologue. Her mistake would have been undiscovered by the audience, yet the assistant teacher corrected her in front of everyone. In my opinion, this was extremely belittling. The girl returned to the stage with tears in her eyes when it was through and this assistant got on stage to show off her "acting skills" immediately following. People were there to admire their children's new-found skills, not to see someone belittled, or some washed up, has been, wanna-be actor, act. On a positive note, the main teacher seemed wonderful. He didn't seem to feel the need to be mean or try to steal the children's spotlight. Get rid of the assistant and perhaps things would be better.
