The Chadwick Bed & Breakfast

"Why did this hotel catch your attention? The first thing you notice outside The Chadwick is the meticulous landscaping. The interior design is more luxurious and modern than other B&Bs in the area, with beautiful wood floors, sumptuous furnishings, and muted, soothing colors. Tell us all about your room. The Baxter Room has a private balcony and an electric fireplace. The bathroom is modern and amply sized, and the bed, a queen-size from Ethan Allen, comes with soft linens and a comfortable mattress. Is there a charge for Wi-Fi?Wi-Fi is free of charge. Drinking and dining—what are we looking at?The only meal here is breakfast, but what a meal it is. You may get lobster eggs Benedict with lemon-scallion Hollandaise or dark rum croissant bread pudding with country sausage. If you're in a rush, ask for a to-go bagged breakfast of fruits and pastries. You can also order in-room cheese and chocolate boards. And the service? It is impeccable—these are professionals who love their job. What else is in the neighborhood? The Chadwick is in the West End, a more residential neighborhood, but it's close to the Western Promenade and not far from Downtown and the Old Port. Any other hotel features worth noting?Guests can order floral arrangements for their room in advance for an extra charge. Bottom line: Why should we choose The Chadwick? The Chadwick will change the way you view the concept of B&Bs, delivering an experience more that's more luxury hotel and less country inn." - Joe Ricchio

We truly enjoyed our stay at the Chadwick House. Clean, comfortable and welcoming atmosphere! Highlights included fun conversations with Erin (if I lived in Portland I would make Erin be my friend!😊), petting her beautiful huskies and unique and delicious breakfasts! We stayed in the room with the bathroom across the hall - really nice all around! Convenient location! Thanks for hosting us! Kelley & Chris T.

Stayed at The Chadwick early May 2025. Experience was outstanding! Room was comfortable and well-appointed. Fresh flowers in vase was a nice touch :-) Breakfasts varied daily between savory & sweet and as excellent as web site made them look. Erin is a creative cook and I can truly say I enjoyed every one breakfast. The Chadwick is on the historic register. While location is near a medical center, noise from same wasn't terrible. Walking to the West Promenade and seeing the magnificent old houses (and ancient cemetery) was a diversion when I might have otherwise been bored. Walking to downtown Portland attractions not for couch potatoes; easily accessible by ride share or public transportation. Parking downtown can be both hard to find and expensive, not a fault of The Chadwick, just what it is. The three Huskies are quiet, well-behaved and enjoy treats. 10/10 recommend. If I were to visit Portland again, The Chadwick had availability, would stay in a heartbeat.

My husband and I had the most wonderful time staying at The Chadwick Bed and Breakfast! We stayed for three nights and the rooms were clean and equipped with everything we need. The breakfasts were DELICIOUS and I asked for a recipe book many times!! My husband is vegan and I am allergic to tree nuts, the staff was so accommodating but most of all, the breakfasts were so well thought out and crafted, I don’t believe there was a morning we didn’t clear our plates! The location is great, each day we walked to the center of town and enjoyed food and drinks and it was only about a 20 minute walk! We are definitely hoping to return and of course we can’t forget to mention the beautiful songs their adorable dogs would sing (bark). Thank you so much for a great stay, we’ll be back!

The innkeepers, Erin, Zach and Lilly are are a friendly, lovely family, who make you feel at completely at home. Our room was comfortable, cozy and clean with a very modern bathroom. The breakfasts were to die for...delicious, very ample, uniquely different each morning and artful presented. We were able too casually enjoy our breakfast and conversation for well over an hour without any pressure to vacate the dinning room. The Chadwick is located in the West End of Portland and is within walking distance of some nice restaurants. You definitely will be pleased if you stay at the Chadwick!

My fiancé and I stayed here and were pleased with everything! The house is so warm and inviting and the hostess was so sweet. She was able to accommodate my fiancé's gluten allergy with her delicious breakfasts. The dogs were friendly and we loved giving them treats! Our room was so cozy with the fireplace and the bed was so comfortable. It was an amazing stay! We would highly recommend and would love to return!

Our stay was wonderful. Great location, close to plenty of action. Arrival and check-in were well organized. It was also nice to have a parking spot off-street. Our room/bathroom were very clean & the accommodations were well thought out. Lastly, the home cooked breakfast was delicious!

Google
Absolutely amazing stay! Erin is the nicest person in the world and an excellent chef! Our room was comfortable and clean, the bathroom was spacious and also clean, and we loved getting to hang out with the puppies. Couldn’t recommend this place more!!

We had a wonderful stay at the Chadwick B&B. The room was perfect clean and lovely. The house itself was very comfortable to sit in. Erin and Zach were great hosts and to top it off, Erin is a gourmet chef making delicious breakfasts.|The close proximity to the hospital made visiting our new grandson very convenient.

Yelp
Her breakfast will knock your socks off. She must have a classically trained culinary background. My husband and I are both in the service industry. The inn is super cute, well maintained and the inn keepers both very accommodating. They look for the "yes," which you aren't going to get at a hotel on the wharf. This is our second visit in the past 9 years. We will be back. Love - Heather and Brett

Yelp
We stayed at the Chadwick for a week vacation and it was magical. The room was gorgeous and comfortable. The breakfasts were absolutely delicious (especially the orange and chocolate chip ricotta pancakes!) The absolute highlight of the stay, however, was the family running the bed and breakfast. Erin and Zack were so kind and welcoming. They were easy to talk to and had amazing recommendations for our stay. Their daughter Lily kept us entertained with many stories. Their dogs were adorable and greeted us the moment we hit the bottom of the stairs. We couldn't recommend the Chadwick enough for its accommodations and amazing hospitality!

Yelp
My husband and I stayed at this very comfortable place in the heart of Portland. We were greeted by two friendly huskys housed in the kitchen every time we went up or down the stairs and had the option to give them treats. The very kind hostess and owner prepared a delicious breakfast every morning. Our room was very comfortable with our own private bathroom. Great choice!

Yelp
Such a wonderful, beautiful, cozy and comfortable place to stay. Wonderful location. Baxter room was small and very comfortable for us. Breakfast was AMAZING, she even made sure to be careful when cooking with my husbands dairy allergy, she was very mindful. The inn keeper and her two beautiful dogs were just wonderful. The whole stay was perfect and we would (will) definitely return.

Yelp
An absolutely adorable and wonderful B&B, our stay at the Chadwick was everything you want out of a cozy weekend get away! Ideally located on the West side of Portland tucked into a cute neighborhood, the Chadwick is just a few minutes away from Congress St and a quick 10 min walk to downtown Portland. We arrived a few hours before check-in, but were allowed to park our car in our assigned spot and get our day going early. After a long day walking the city, we arrived back to the hotel in the evening. There is a key pad on the front door (owners text you the code daily) so that you can come and go as you please, and check in is online and in advance, so you have maximum flexibility in planning your day. In terms of COVID precautions, everything felt very safe - from contactless check in, to distancing of the dining space, and thorough cleaning of our room. These are also all laid out on their website, so you can specifically reference. We stayed in the Baxter room, which is advertised as the smallest room but I think is the true gem of them all! This is the only room that has a cute little private balcony, perfect for an evening drink or morning coffee. There are other adorable B&B features, including an electric fireplace, cozy robes, and a private updated bathroom. The decor throughout the entire hotel reflects a modern victorian flair that continues to add to the charm. And importantly - the food! Breakfast each morning is a home made, unique choice from Innkeeper Erin - who was fantastic! Our breakfast was yogurt with honey and dried cherries, followed by strawberry shortcake waffles and a side of scrambled eggs and fruit (see photo). Everything was DELICIOUS and the portions were more than ample. As we were celebrating my birthday, Erin even thought to leave a nice note with a cookie and candle :) Of note, they also have a bunch of complementary snacks (fruit, energy bars, coffee, tea, seltzer), as well as cocktails/wine available for purchase. Overall, would absolutely stay here again in a heartbeat. This was everything you could want in a weekend B&B getaway, and you are guaranteed an excellent stay!!

Yelp
We stayed at the Chadwick Bed and Breakfast last night and we have to say that the experience far exceeded our expectations. The check in process was super easy and was so helpful as we arrived later than anticipated. The entire B&B was exceptionally well decorated and well thought out, leaving no potential need for their guests unaddressed! There is access to drinks and snacks at all times and though we didn't partake, there is wine available as well to make the experience even more romantic. The breakfast this morning was incredible and we felt as though that alone was well worth the stay. The hostess was so welcoming and friendly and we just adored the house pups. We are already looking forward to our next stay! I highly encourage anyone staying in the Portland area to have the Chadwick B&B experience. You won't regret it!

Yelp
Adorable. Comfy beds and wonderful service. Breakfast was super yummy! Would stay again for sure

Yelp
This is exactly what you should want from a BnB, lovely old home, family atmosphere, comfortable room and bathroom, not jam packed full of rooms and guests, and a delicious breakfast. My wife and I stayed here for two nights and loved everything about the home. The free amenities were pretty straight forward: snacks, coffee, tea, games/DVDs, newspapers and other drinks. They had great add-on prices for bottles of wine or breakfast cocktails. As far as I could tell (or remember) there were only 4 or so rooms, and my wife and I stayed in Room 4. Our bathroom wasn't attached but that was not a problem for us. We had a large and very comfortable bed and the inn was quiet so we slept great. For breakfast on the first morning we had pumpkin spice waffles with fresh fruit and sausage. Absolutely delicious, with just the right amount of syrup. On the second day we had an everything bagel with lox, homemade cream cheese and other accompaniments. Also great. Highly recommend.

Yelp
We did a tour of New England for our 20th anniversary and finished our trip in Portland. This Bed and Breakfast was the best place we stayed! Erin, the Innkeeper, is so friendly and inviting. It was so nice walking in and chatting with her, getting recommendations on things to do, meeting her adorable daughter, and petting the sweet dogs. The rooms are so nice and comfortable. We stayed in the Abbott room and loved the view of the backyard from our windows. The bed was comfortable and the sheets were SO soft!!! Now for the food - OMG, so good. This was one of the selling points for me when I was looking at places to stay - the breakfast on their website just looked divine and it did not disappoint. Everything is homemade and cooked fresh for you when you come down for breakfast. Not a detail was forgotten. The innkeepers really care about their guests and the inn and it shows. I would definitely stay here again if we are able to make it back to Maine someday. 10/10 recommend.

Yelp
I've been to maybe 20 or so BnB's in my life. Not enough to make me an expert; but what I can say is this place and the staff knock it out of the park. Stay for the breakfast! It's awesome! Try the complimentary snacks... especially the cookies! If you're in that area I highly recommend!

Yelp
My wife and I stayed here for the last night of a 7 day trip to the ME coast. This place is incredible! Awesome rooms and amenities, and it's located a short walk to DT restaurants. All the perks (coffee, cookies, wine) made the stay just that much more special, and the amazing breakfast that Erin put on was the perfect ending to a great week in Maine! Next time we are in the area, we will definitely stay more than one night here! Thanks!

Yelp
My husband and I stayed here for a full week during our honey moon. It was our first time staying at a bed and breakfast and we were both a little nervous. When we pulled onto the street we were a little disappointed that is was located right across from a hospital. However in the full week we were there it was so quiet, neither of us can recall having a single disturbance. The house itself is beautiful!! It is very clean and decorated very nicely. We felt at home immediately. The atmosphere is so warm and inviting. We stayed in the Baxter room which was on the smaller side but very intimate and cozy. There was a tiny private balcony off of the sliding door in our room which was nice to look out of while drinking my morning coffee. There was a private bathroom right across the hall that was very clean and stocked very well. There is a heated fan in there as well! Awesome!! Ok now let's talk about breakfast.. Out of this world! Every morning was something even more delicious than the morning before. They would bring out a little appetizer like yogurt and granola or fresh scones while you were waiting and you would almost be full before the actual breakfast. Scott and Erin were very nice and very accommodating. Erin was also very helpful when it came to recommending local attractions. We absolutely loved our stay here. We hope to return some day!

Yelp
Cute, clean B&B in Portland. My husband and I stayed here two nights a couple weeks back. We were warmly greeted by one of the inn keepers who showed us around upon arrival. Our room was clean, and the inn had a cute little porch that we used one of the nights to have a drink on. The breakfast was the highlight of this place, though! Erin is a phenomenal cook. The first morning we had a turkey and egg stacker that was on a croissant and topped with an over easy egg, avocado, turkey and peppers. The second morning we had blueberry pancakes, sausage and fruit. So delicious! I liked this place because there were only four other guests besides us, so it never felt crowded. The amenities that were provided were also great: sparkling water, granola bars, fruit and coffee, whenever you needed a snack. The only downside was that it was a mile or so away from downtown Portland, so we couldn't walk. Other than that, we had a great stay and would highly recommend!

Yelp
30 days on the East Coast and Portland ME was one of our favorites. The Chadwick was one of two absolute favorite places to stay. Can't wait to go back. The Chamberlain room has the most comfortable bed we ever slept in away from home! We warn you... be hungry for breakfast, they are pretty incredible!
google avatar

PianoGirl S.

Yelp
Erin was by far the best innkeeper anyone could ever have! The good conversation, great meal options, snack and atmosphere were great. My husband and I went in the Spring so the weather was a bit out of sorts but we made the best of it. Definitely would come back here again!
google avatar

Kelsey S.

Yelp
We traveled to the Maine from Chicago, and despite being 1000 miles away, we felt at home at the Chadwick. Scot and Erin were attentive in an unobtrusive way. The rooms were spotless, and the dining room was always stocked with coffee, tea and cookies. Don't leave without trying the peanut butter banana butterscotch cookies. They're addictive. Breakfasts are on point, too. They alternate between a sweet dish and an egg-based dish, so one day the menu might include lobster eggs benedict and the next might be strawberry shortcake pancakes. They even accommodate special diets. No matter what is served, it will be delicious.

Yelp
The Chadwick Bed and Breakfast was amazing. The contactless check in went smoothly, the bed was so comfortable, the television even has Netflix, and the breakfast was perfect! The Inn's keeper was wonderful! I could not imagine a better place to stay! We will definitely be back and highly recommend The Chadwick Bed and Breakfast!

Yelp
This was a beautiful place to stay! The owners were so nice. The breakfast was delicious! Their homemade cookies so good. And the bed was very comfortable! I will definitely be coming back and staying here!

Yelp
This was the first bed and breakfast I've ever stayed in and it set the bar very high to stay anywhere else. The room was clean, relaxing, and the home was full of amenities. Service was wonderful and all the staff is very kind and accommodating. Breakfast is served between 8-930am. Coffee is at 7am. Check in and check out was a breeze. Parking is free and off street. About 1 mile from the main port location. Walkable or can ride bikes or Uber if you prefer. All save parking costs. Would recommend staying here to anyone considering. Was a wonderful time.
google avatar

Lixhan John L.

Yelp
We had a great stay. Checkin was a breeze, they emailed us the door code and had the key waiting on the counter. It was quiet and relaxing. Waking up to an amazing breakfast of butter poached eggs with pesto and fresh fruit was a perfect start to the day. It is located on the very outskirts of downtown and had it been a little warmer we would have walked to the Old Port and I'm sure we will on a future visit during warm weather. We would stay again on our next trip to Portland.

Yelp
My fiance and I had such a wonderful experience here, celebrating our anniversary and engagement. I booked our room online but I made a mistake with the booking, only reserving one night instead of two. When I contacted Buddy, one of the two innkeepers, about this error, he switched us to an even nicer room that was available for both nights for the same price as the original room. And that was only one small example of the great service we experienced here! The whole house was very cozy, with an adorable patio and a comfortable living room where we played a game by the fireplace one night. Each of the rooms was beautifully furnished in classic styles, yet had more modern amenities than you'd find in most hotels (dvd players in every room, electric fireplaces). We stayed in the Chamberlain Room which had a glorious king sized bed. The dining room was colorful and comfortable and the food really was as good as everyone says! Each house made breakfast had a small starter like delicious cranberry scones or a thick moist lemon pound cake with raspberry sauce. Then there were two daily breakfast options like a light but tasty frittata, french toast, or eggs to order. If you are indecisive like me you could even choose both options! Every day you could also choose fresh granola (made weekly) with yogurt and fruit and I highly recommend that you take that option at least once. It was literally the best granola I have ever had, and I have had quite a lot of granola. I have raved about it to many an uninterested friend and eventually, when I was still thinking about it weeks after our trip, I finally just e-mailed the inn to ask for the recipe. I quickly received a response in which Buddy handed over his prized recipe to me just as graciously as anything! What a wonderful man! The staff, and by that I mean the two of them, was more than helpful getting us cabs, restaurant recommendations and reservations, and directions into town. It really did feel like staying at a friend's (beautiful Victorian) house. I'm even hoping that we can make an annual tradition out of it. With so many five star reviews, it's almost hard to believe a B&B could be that good, but it is. Just don't tell too many people or I won't be able to get a room the next time I want to come stay!

Yelp
We enjoyed our stay at the Chadwick Ben and Breakfast. The rooms were lovely, updated, clean, and comfortable. Breakfasts were thoughtful and the chocolate chip cookies were tops. My spouse would run home every afternoon with the excitement of a child, hoping there would be cookies in the jar. The prices were very reasonable the and innkeeper, Scot, was friendly, but not overly present (this is a good thing... I don't like feeling like I'm staying in a stranger's living room). He went above and beyond to take a gift certificate for us that the inn no longer accepts, which was super kind and much appreciated. Great customer service. The only down side for us is it's a bit far from the old port (they said a 20 minute walk, but my guess is it would take longer, and it's not really an attractive walk (full disclosure, we never actually did the walk)). Being away from the city might be an upside for other folks who don't want to deal with all the hustle and bustle outside their windows. It was near the hospital, but we never hear ambulances. The cab to the old port was just under $10 each way with tip, so it was totally fine, but I want people to have realistic expectations.

Yelp
Welcoming and oh so comfortable, the Chadwick B&B is the way to go when visiting Portland, ME. Scot knows how to take the B&B experience to new heights with exceptional service. The house is charming and very cozy, with indoor and outdoor spaces to relax. The rooms are spacious and well appointed. The breakfasts are better than most restaurants'. I'd love it if they did room service, but I'll drag myself out of the comfy bed to get to the dining room for them! Tip: The Chadwick is located in the west end, which is the loveliest part of the old town. When you venture out by foot to explore the town, go via the neighborhood (not down Congress). Don't miss the west promenade, and meander through the mansion-lined streets.

Yelp
If you're staying in Portland there's no better place than the Chadwick B&B. My fella and I wanted to get away for a few days before the craziness of the holidays and to use up some end of year vacation days. We both really enjoy Portland, ME, but hadn't been there in some years. I'm so glad we decided to stay at the Chadwick over some of the other B&B options available in the area. It's plain to see right away when you walk in that this Bed & Breakfast is cozy and cheery but modern without being cold. It's not stuffy, dusty or filled to the brim with tchotchkes. We chose room #4, the Chamberlain room, because it had a king size bed, and a full tub (room 3 has a shower only). There are four rooms at the Chadwick: two have attached bathrooms, two have bathrooms near the bedrooms, but they are also private (your room key locks those doors as well). Both the Chamberlain bedroom and bathroom have a very comfortable atmosphere. I like that neither was overfilled with furniture, but had just enough for practicality. The bedroom has a great little electric fireplace, which made the room so romantic and cozy. Every room has a flat screen TV with DVD player, a sound machine and an iPod dock/alarm clock. It's a modern place in all the ways that matter, and rustic and charming in everything else. Scott and his staff were friendly, but let us have our own space to do as we liked, which I really appreciated. I hate the kind of B&B where you feel like you're in someone else's home and invading their space. If anything, I wanted to go hang out in the kitchen with Scott, the staff and their dog. But I was glad to have the quiet time, the privacy and the space to enjoy the company of my boyfriend. Speaking of which, I think he really enjoyed himself too, even though I know we booked the Chadwick instead of some cheap hotel because I wanted it. I wanted something a little more luxe, but really we didn't pay that much more. I compared prices with hotels in the area, and any hotel worth staying in (i.e. not a Motel 6) was the same price or more than a stay at The Chadwick. With the included breakfast, it's more than well worth the price. Plus, the Chadwick seems to have offers available for last minute bookings, seasonal bookings or Yelp check ins, etc. Everyone here has raved about the breakfasts, with good reason. Day #1 yogurt with honey and dried cherries, and strawberry shortcake pancakes that will make you weep, they're so good. Day #2 home-made granola with steamed milk, omelets with filling of choice and fresh fruit. We left the B&B each day feeling fulfilled, and we didn't have to eat lunch until 2pm. The bed in the Chamberlain room was not just a big comfortable bed, it was incredibly comfortable, so much so, I am asking the guys what they have on that bed because when I get a new one, I am getting something similar if I can. The dining room has snacks, tea and cocoa all day and night long. The living room also has wine bottles at the ready and complimentary waters and seltzers as well. The living room also has a library of mostly travel books, and a good selection of DVDs. There are also some board games, but excepting Monopoly, they are all for groups of 4 or more. And my favorite touch: a pack of condoms in the bedside table. Thanks fellas.

Yelp
This bed and breakfast is wonderful! The rooms are beautifully furnished and styled. Throughout our stay, we started each morning with delicious coffee and some of the best breakfasts we have ever tasted. We loved returning each evening to homemade cookies and milk that are always available in the dining room. This was truly a perfect place to relax and rest after exploring Portland!

Yelp
I waffle between a four and a five star on this place. I do have a handful of reasons why I don't want to give them a five but I also really had nice time here so it makes me feel bad to hold out on that extra star. sigh. The innkeepers were very friendly and helpful. They made sure we had everything available to us. There's a snack table downstairs that has tons of cookies (one that is homemade), crackers, tea and coffee available. The tea selection was very fun and I enjoyed picking out which flavor I would have each time. Our room was sort of secluded from the rest of the house which I liked. The bathroom was separate from the bedroom. It was a large bathroom and even though it was a private one it still kind of annoyed me that it was separate. I sleep naked and when I have to use the facilities in the middle of the night it's annoying to have to find some clothes or a robe. I strongly prefer an attached bath. There was a heater in the bedroom with a slab of marble on top of it that was sort of precarious. Not only did I keep accidentally bumping it and watching it wobble but the marble would get pretty warm, almost hot, when the heater would kick on. I had a water bottle on there and it started getting to the point I was worried it would melt the plastic. So at that point I moved my stuff to the floor or on another shelf but that was sort of inconvenient. It was a bit of a bummer that the fireplace isn't real. Still, we were snuggly in the bed and everybody was far enough away it felt like we were all on our own. There's a cute little balcony off the room that I imagine is very lovely in the summertime. There are many wine bottles available for purchase at super reasonable prices and they just add it to your bedroom. There's also a binder full of nearby restaurant menus that is helpful to peruse. And a ton of games and dvds at your disposal. For breakfast they have some decent food. I loved the fresh fruit and the homemade granola was really tasty. I will say that it wasn't as good as I thought it was going to be but it wasn't like we weren't fed. I had a nice time here and I would definitely return but maybe I would splurge and get a room with an attached bath. My bad.

Yelp
The wonderful Chadwick was the home-base for our weekend jaunt in Portland. My girlfriend and I are no B & B superstars, but we still managed to jot down a few of the Chadwick's unique elements. The innkeepers, Scot and Laura, are fairly young, which was great for 20-something travelers like ourselves. Other B & B's I've been to were a bit stuffy towards the young folk. Scot and Laura were also fairly hands-off, and that made us feel more comfortable and relaxed. I'm never a fan of hosts that are too helpful... Scott and Laura played a perfect balance in this regard. There are only four rooms at the Chadwick, but the cheapest option--the Baxter--is definitely the most private. The room is small, but unless you have tons of luggage it shouldn't be a bother (there's even a sizable closet for storing excess luggage). We liked the way the room was secluded around a corner and down a short hallway. Yeah, the bathroom is across the hall from the room, but you don't have to walk through any "common" areas in order to get to it. The fact that the bathroom is large and comforting was also a big plus. Breakfasts were elegant, healthy, and filling. Omelets one day, blueberry pancakes the next, eggs benedict the day of our departure. There was also constant selection of snacks, tea (lots of tea), and coffee available throughout the day. Even though it was frigid out, we were still able to walk downtown every day. There's some great restaurants within a 10 minute walk and plenty more within 15 - 20 min. Downtown Portland has easy--and cheap--taxis as well. A cab back to the Chadwick from Old Port was 7 or 8 bucks with tip. There's no need for me to add any special wit or snark to this review. The Chadwick was too good. It was our perfect home for the weekend.

Yelp
My husband & I got rained out of camping in Acadia, so we opted for a drive down to Portland and some cozier accommodations. The Chadwick had two rooms available mid-week, of which we were offered our choice. Scott was very helpful on the phone when I called to inquire about rates & availability, and he was just as friendly & professional in person. The house itself is lovely: charming and quaint without being old lady-ish, with elegant decor in general. My husband & I both appreciated the modern amenities (iPhone-docking alarm clock/stereo, remote-controlled fireplace, LCD flatscreen TV), which are unusual for a B&B. Mellow, quiet music was always playing downstairs in the common areas too. I enjoyed the classical while lounging with my coffee & book. The bed was super comfy, there was no real noise from the street or house (though our room was supplied with a little white-noise machine for sensitive individuals), and each room seemed sweetly unique. It was also convenient to have a parking space, as well as the freedom to come & go as we pleased (our room key had the code for the front door). Loved having tea and fresh cookies before bed, picked up a few of the complimentary snacks for the drive the next day, and breakfast was outstanding! Scott had asked for any dietary restrictions upon check-in to accommodate us. No restrictions here, so were served a delicious meal of herb-goat cheese quiche, maple sausage, fresh fruit, and berries in a mint simple syrup. Don't waste your time and money on some stupid, soulless hotel. Spend a few extra bucks, cancel your breakfast plans, and stay at the Chadwick!

Yelp
I was lucky enough to spend two nights in the Baxter Room at the Chadwick and I enjoyed it so much that I put a reservation down for Valentine's Day of 2009 on the way out. The Chadwick is the platonic ideal of what a New England Bed and Breakfast should be - a beautiful building tucked into a beautiful old neighborhood within walking distance of a beautiful town center, with fine food and friendly service in abundance. The innkeeper, Buddy, was nothing short of fantastic during our time there. The difference between a good B&B and a great one is the love that the innkeeper has for what he or she does. Buddy loves this house and loves opening up its four wonderful rooms to guests, and that is what makes the place great. Of the four rooms, the Baxter was the smallest, but it was wonderful for our purposes (read: relaxing in a sumptuously appointed bed and watching the Food Network while eating chocolate). The color scheme was light and airy, there were terry robes in the closet and Buddy plugged the efficient air conditioner in the second we brought our bags up. Each of the rooms has its own private bathroom in the hallway, and the Baxter bath had a beautiful clawfoot tub and a distractingly pretty Georgia O'Keefe print. The common areas are decadently comfortable, with rich reds and tans, and comfortable seating everywhere. There's a laptop in an alcove near the door, which was terrific for checking out the surrounding restaurants, and a collection of DVDs that you could take back to your room. In terms of the "breakfast" part of the bed and breakfast, I was extremely impressed. The dining room had four tables, and the food that graced them was delicious. Each morning, we had a choice between a daily special (lemon zested pancakes and fresh scones one morning, vegetable quiche and homemade coffee cake the other) and a standard fare of omelettes, eggs, bacon and other items made to order. There are also scones, cookies and snacks available all day, if the vast breakfast wasn't enough. I'm not sure how it breakfast would fall short of filling you. Buddy practically insisted that we have seconds. The location is excellent. The Chadwick is situated in a beautiful neighborhood that's a ten minute walk from the Portland Sea Dogs' stadium, and a 20 minute walk from the immense Old Port area. Buddy knows it well, so ask for recommendations about what to do. Overall, the experience was wonderful and I am already looking forward to going back in six months.

Yelp
Great bed and breakfast on the West End. My mother and I stayed in the Longfellow room, which is listed as the smallest room in the inn. It has a private bathroom and was the perfect size for two people who are mostly spending their days out and about. The inn owners are super accommodating and made a delicious breakfast each morning. Snacks, coffee and tea, water and seltzer are available all hours. The location is next to the Maine Medical Hospital. It was not too noisy and we felt safe walking into town. It is at least a mile from the restaurants we ate at and not overly close to the heart of old town. But we didn't mind walking. There is a strip of restaurants along Congress Ave., along with night clubs and bars. The bed was comfortable. The pillows gave me a slight neck ache. The bathroom was very well stocked. And bonus for having a heated fan. Overall we were really happy with our stay.

Yelp
Found this on Yelp, and Yelpers are right. It's a quaint, inviting and relaxing B&B. We stayed at the Longfellow Room which has a "fireplace." It felt like home. Delicious breakfast ranged from French Toast to Omelet with fruits and granola. Bottled water, snacks and homemade cookies are complimentary. Scott and Erin are friendly and made our stay very enjoyable. I can't comment much on the area as we briefly walked the neighborhood. If we come back to Portland, we won't hesitate to stay here again.

Yelp
What a great B&B! My girl and I stayed here two nights while visiting Portland. The whole experience was great, from the warm welcome to the cozy room to the outstanding breakfast. I would highly recommend and cannot wait to return someday.

Yelp
This is seriously the best B&B I've stayed at. Classy and beautiful Victorian house with several rooms. We stayed in the rooms with two twin beds. Some highlights: free parking and wifi (often extra costs at most hotels), fresh baked cookies available all day, private bathroom, good location. Can't say enough about this place. Only stayed a night but totally worth it.

Yelp
First B&B I've ever stayed in. Had slightly anxiety on the way about noisy neighbors or creepy guests or crazy charges for this and that but as I got off the highway and entered this town my worries went away and when we pulled up into the driveway I exhaled and smiled big! We were greeted by a nice woman who he is a tour and showed us our room. The house is amazing - like so homey and cozy but imagine you're pinteresting cottage coastal and boom! The amenities are just perfect from the hammock to the firepit and the selection of board games to complimentary homemade cookies and bottled water and teas and coffees -- to the chocolates in your room, etc. And the breakfast was almost too beautiful to eat - huevos rancheros presented TOP CHEFish. I'm so happy we found this place and will become a regular, for sure!

Yelp
Another perfect stay at the Chadwick. We were here for Valentine's Day 2009 in the Abbott Room, which is gorgeous and has a brand new bathroom. We were greeted with hugs from Buddy and champagne and cupcakes in our room. Staying at the Chadwick was romantic and a very special way to celebrate VDay. We're coming back in April and I am so excited :)

Yelp
My boyfriend and I have stayed here twice. We went back because we enjoyed it so much the first time. Since our first stay, ownership of the inn changed. But that was not a problem at all. Laura was friendly and even called to let us know our room was ready early. We were greeted and offers water before we were shown to our room. We stayed in the Abott Room. The bed is COMFORTABLE! And the room has a private bath room. The inn is cozy without being over the top. The common areas do not have AC, but the bedrooms have a window unit each. We already had a dinner reservation, but Laura did ask if she could help. Breakfast was delicious. A Mediterranean omelet with fresh raspberry orange muffins and piping hot coffee. So happy we went back. Was the perfect overnight getaway spot.

Yelp
First of all, I must admit that this was our first time staying in a bed and breakfast -- and we were a little nervous (which means I was nervous and my husband was ready to find any excuse to find a suitable Marriott). That said, the Chadwick was awesome. Buddy, the current owner, has done a fantastic job of restoring this beautiful old house. We stayed in the Abbott room which has it's own bathroom. Breakfast deserves its own paragraph. It was fabulous and served in the cutest dining room you can imagine. I still wake up craving the stuffed French toast. Buddy even provided coffee cake and fruit on those mornings when we slept in and missed the "official" breakfast hours. And if we came in hungry, there were always fresh baked brownies or cookies. You're in trouble if you're on a diet in this place :-) It was also our first time in Maine (or New England, for that matter). Buddy recommended several places for us to check out and even provided "on the fly" directions/recommendations when I'd call him from the streets of Portland. We can't wait to go back and hang out in the backyard -- it was still a little cold when we were there in early May (for us Texans). Buddy was redoing the landscaping while we were there... and installing a hammock. Other info: there is a TV and DVD player in the guest room (which we never used) and random DVDs left by guests in the sitting room that you can borrow, the wifi signal is usable from the Abbott room (which we did use), there are wine glasses and bottle openers in the dining room that you can borrow (so don't fret if the FAA confiscates your travel corkscrew), there are umbrellas in the foyer (so don't bother packing one).

Yelp
This B&B is amazing. The rooms are super comfy, the breakfast is delicious, and the recommendations (bike rentals, nice restaurants) are spot on. It's only a short walk to parks and downtown, so the location is great. Most importantly, Buddy (the owner) is incredibly happy -- you can't help but smile every morning as he tells you all the fun things you can do that day.

Yelp
I've stayed in several bed and breakfasts and this one is by far the best. Beautifully decorated, clean rooms, wonderful breakfasts and great location.

Yelp
We just enjoyed a wonderful stay at the Chadwick Bed and Breakfast. The staff was warm, inviting and helpful. Beautiful home with tons of amenities. We particularly enjoyed hanging out in the lounge playing cribbage on the gorgeous log board. Breakfast was delicious- savory crepes with spinach, bacon and overeasy eggs. Room 3 was nice and private with a lovely bathroom and shower. Would recommend the Chadwick to anyone. Thanks Scot and Erin!

Yelp
A case study in how to modernize a bed and breakfast while still preserving its old charms. At the Chadwick, the usual features of the traditional b and b experience - obsequious hosts, ancient sitting rooms and apple cinnamon pancakes, to name a few - have been updated with energetic millennial innkeepers, contemporary furniture, and huevos rancheros. The beautiful old home sports both snazziness and coziness at the same time, and there are tons, and I mean tons of small details to appreciate: the well-stocked wine rack in the living room, the large collection of board games to play as you sip, the bountiful self-serve complimentary pantry stocked with fruit, cheese, granola bars and french press coffee, the fire pit with pre-prepared starter kits to enjoy in the garden, the full cable TV package with complimentary Netflix, Hulu Plus and Amazon Prime, the white noise machines in rooms that simulate the ocean waves, reservation confirmations via text message...I could go on. Rounding out the niceties, the Chadwick is deceptively close to Congress street, Portland's eclectic main thoroughfare where you'll find a healthy smattering of coffee shops, restaurants and even a few small grocery stores. Additionally, there is a nice overlook of South Portland only a few blocks away. Walking is a must... Leave your car at the Chadwick for the weekend and get to know this interesting small city on foot.

Yelp
I stayed here at the end of March 2010 and the only downside was that I could only stay one night. Buddy was such a gracious and engaging host. Breakfast was amazing (even for us vegetarians)! The room was beautiful and comfortable. I took a breather in the sitting room after breakfast and realized I could have spent an afternoon there. I'm looking for a reason to head back to Portland just to return to the Chadwick. Good times!

Yelp
We stayed here for two nights in December and had a wonderful time. Scott and Laura were both great hosts - always willing to help us with planning our day, and gracious when we failed to show up to breakfast on time. We stayed in the Longfellow room and loved it. We were also able to walk to dinner both nights from the Inn - great location.

Yelp
With numerous friends and family members in town over the weekend (as it is most our summers) we were happy to hear great reviews about The Chadwick when our guests sent us the thank you note. They raved about it, the ambience, everything. Thank you. Amybeth Hurst, Portland

Yelp
Such a great, small bed and breakfast. We had such a good visit. The inn is beautifully decorated and the rooms gorgeous. Erin and Scott are gracious innkeepers and they make an amazing breakfast. Will definitely come back.

Yelp
spent one night in the chamberlain guest room on a stopover in portland. my partner booked the room and when i heard the bathroom was not inside the room i got a little itchy. but i must say it wasn't bad at all. it was private just for us and about 4 ft. from the room. robes were provided for the short jaunt. i wouldn't rule out a room like that again in the future at all. when we arrived laura greeted us very warmly. she showed us around, gave us the nickel tour and talked to us about our thoughts we had for dinner. she seemed to be knowledgeable about many places and even helped us get a reservation. the room itself was very nice. a king size bed that was very comfortable with nice linens etc. breakfast was great. especially since they were so accommodating to me. i'm not a fan of very sweet breakfasts -- such as chocolate chip pancakes with maple butter and blueberry syrup etc. and the breakfast they served was crepes with caramlized bananas and nutella. any normal american would love it and it looked like it was prepared well. but when i just opted for the fruit "appetizer" they served before the entree laura asked if i would like something else -- perhaps some scrambled eggs. perfect! i appreciated her dong that and they were great. overall i would highly recommend chadwick and my stay there was quite enjoyable. comfortable, welcoming and quite.

Yelp
To celebrate my wife's birthday, we booked 4 nights at the Chadwick .... with a little trepidation due to some of our bad experiences with B and B's. The Chadwick is wonderfull !! The home is very neat, clean, and pleasant. Everything was far more than we expected. The bed was very comfortable and we are now considering updating our own to match this one. The housekeeping cleans the room and makes the bed every day. The bathroom was a few steps down the hallway but posed no problem at all. It, too, was cleaned every day. Most impressive is the attention to detail, ie, the cleanliness, the interior decoration, the general neatness of the whole place. The pictures on the web site don't do justice to the actual place. You have to see it yourself. Coffee (really good coffee) available 24 hours per day, little snacks available for anytime, bottled water is provided at no charge. A good selection of white and red wine, either by the glass or by the bottle, can be purchased at the Chadwick at very reasonable prices so there's no need to bring your own. Gourmet breakfast served every morning. This is something you do not want to miss. Scott is a great chef. Our last morning there, we had Ebelskivers, Danish breakfast pancakes. It doesn't get any better than that. They were delicious. You could probably get seconds if you asked. They are that good. Cabs to downtown are cheap, fast, and honest. Scott will provide you with the name of the recommended cab company to call. Scott, the owner, is one of the most congenial people you will ever meet. Like one of the previous reviews ... 5 stars plus plus.

Yelp
What a wonderful place! So welcoming, beautiful and clean! I felt like I was in the home of a good friend who said "make yourself comfortable and help yourself!". from the tea and cookies (and the glass of wine!) to the laptop access-the robe, the comfy bathroom, the great breakfast the next morning--it was a wonderful stay. Please stay here instead of a cheesy chain hotel!

Yelp
this review is about three years old, but this b&b was just lovely. beautifully decorated in a charming and warm, yet modern way. everything i was looking for in a b&b and a quick getaway to portland. unfortunately, i can't remember the name of where we went the next day, but it was some national park along the rocky coast of maine. i love rocks + ocean. also a drive out to some road where you're almost completely surrounded by water, which was pretty but i think overrated for the time it took to get there.
