The Chalet

We are so lucky to have stayed in such a beautiful home. The owners are very friendly and knowledgeable. They made us feel at ‘home’. The chalet is very well maintained with beautiful garden, unparalleled views of the lake and snow capped mountains. We stayed in the one bedroom apartment with great views from the living room and the garden. This is the place we would like to come soon.

Our stay at The Chalet in Lake Tekapo was pure serenity 🌿. The calm lake 🌊 and breathtaking views 🏔️ made it the perfect peaceful retreat. Cozy, well-equipped, and surrounded by nature’s beauty – what a view! Highly recommend for a tranquil getaway ✨.

What a great stay that my family had. Our hosts are extremely friendly and helpful, often making sure you don't need anything. The place has everything you need to cook and have a wonderful stay, and it was very tidy. From the Chalet you can walk to the village in a few minutes, you don't need the car. It's very well located, quiet, kids friendly... It's a perfect stay. The view is... you have to see it to believe it! Sad to leave one of our best stays in New-Zealand.

Zita, Walter and Judith are friendly, smiling and thoughtful hosts, and so knowledgeable of this area and its history, having lived here for 40 years. |The first and lasting impression of these facilities is the immaculate cleanliness – in our room every area, cupboard, utensil and surface was well maintained and clean. |We stayed in a one bedroom room with a lake view. Out the front of the sliding glass doors there was a cute paved area bordered with a garden in full bloom. It was a prime spot to sit at the outdoor table and chairs to soak in the perfect views of the lake and the ever changing cloud formations across the mountains.|The bed was super comfortable, the shower hot and the towels thick and thirsty – there was even a separate washer and moist towelette for makeup removal. These people have an eye for detail, including quality ground coffee in small packets for the plunger for the breakfast brew.|It was so nice to have the capacity to enjoy some meals assembled in our kitchenette from local produce (the salmon fillet from Mt Cook Alpine Salmon Shop collected on our journey to Lake Tekapo was a winner!). And having that bit of extra space to spread out that doesn’t come with a regular motel room, is always appreciated. We even had the opportunity to get some laundry done, which made the next leg of our journey so much easier.|Thank you to Zita, Walter and family for your hospitality and warmth. And a special thank you for finding our left behind charger before we’d even missed it!! Walter and Zita are the best hosts you can ever hope for. The rooms are very cozy and well equipped. You can truly tell that they love what they do and they do it exceptionally well.

Quiet location by the lake. About a 10 minute walk to the main shopping and restaurant area. The hosts, Zita and Walter, were very friendly and helpful. Had to climb stairs to our room. Clean and comfortable room with kitchenette. Communal laundry. Would stay again.

One of the best decisions we will have made this trip to NZ is staying here at The Chalet Motel! One of the owners, Walter, welcomed us on our arrival and couldn’t do more to help out or answer our questions. We are travelling with our teenage son, so a one bedroom apartment with king bed for us and a fold out sofa for him was all that we needed. Views of the lake are spectacular and it is SO quiet! The main area with shops and restaurants is a five min drive away so close enough to get takeaway and bring it back for a meal with a view! Couldn’t recommend highly enough if you are like us and just want a couple of days away from our normal busy lives…

We would give this 10 stars if we could. After having to cancel a trip to New Zealand 10 years ago and canceled staying here we finally made it. This was the best and favorite hotel we stayed at out of 7 of our trip. #1 was Walter and his wife's warmth and making there place a home away from home perhaps better. We stayed in the Henkel Hut overlooking a fabulous view of the lake. Quiet and a short walk to town. The Hut is spacious and outfitted with anything you might need. Clean, warm and homey. There are lots of places to stay with views but don't think twice. Walter also arranged a perfect sky for our dark sky viewing the day after rain and gale force winds which were supposed to linger (Walter won't take credit but somehow we think his love of the lake and sky made it possible)
