The Chalet

Fantastic stay at The Chalet. The apartments are in a great location, right in the front of the Lake, with a short walk (5/10 mins ) into town. This means you get an almost private view of the lake and you're close enough to the action in town. The famous chapel is about 200 m away too. The apartment has underfloor heating in the lounge area. The kitchen is well equipped to cook for yourself or you can try the restaurants in town ( be warned, they all close by 9pm ). Nice big, comfy beds to sleep in. Olenty of towels and toiletries available. Plenty of space to relax outdoors on your own patio area. Spotlessly clean throughout. There is an onsite laundry which is useful for travellers and outdoors. Honestly, nothing has been missed here, they even offer facilities to wash your car! Lake Tepako is a great resort to stay and discover. The Chalet is highly recommended by this reviewer Thank You Walter and Zita.

We stayed in Unit 6 on September 24 and absolutely loved it! The chalet was super cozy and cute, from the balcony we could see the Milky Way, and from the windows, beautiful lake, stars, and snow capped mountains. Everything was spotless, the bed was comfy, and we slept so well! The house had everything we needed, tea bags, milk in the fridge, cooking pans, and lovely tableware. It felt so thoughtful. The shower had great water pressure and stable hot water too. Walter and Zita were incredibly kind and friendly. Walter is an amazing weather forecaster! When he heard that we were going to Mt. John Observatory, he told us it would clear up in one to two hours and it really did! He also told us which night would be best for stargazing, and he was right again. He kindly taught us how to use the YR app to check the weather, so helpful! We had a wonderful stay here and felt really cared for. The chalet and TLV restaurant made us wish we could stay in Tekapo a few more days! 😄

This was by far the most lovable homestay we've ever experienced. From the moment we arrived, we were blown away by the stunning lake view and the peaceful atmosphere. The room was spacious, beautifully styled, and felt so homey—it instantly made us feel comfortable and relaxed. Every little detail in the home reflects warmth and care. It truly felt like a dream house, and we honestly didn’t want to leave. The hospitality was exceptional—kind, thoughtful, and genuine. It made the whole experience even more special. We came here to celebrate our first anniversary, and it couldn’t have been more perfect. We’re already hoping to come back for our 10th anniversary (or sooner!). Definitely worth every penny, and more. Thank you for creating such a magical and welcoming space. We fell in love with everything about it.

Such a beautiful and peaceful stay at The Chalet. The room was spotless and well-equipped and waking up to that lake view was amazing. Walking distance to Church of The Good Shepherd!

We had the most glorious holiday staying at The Chalet. Stunning views, very quiet and within walking distance to Lake Tekapo village.

We were greeted by Walter for our two night stay in the Henkel Hut. He was always helpful in providing information, answering questions or listening to our adventures. The location is perfect with beautiful views of the lake right from our room plus amazing views of the night sky just outside Henkel Hut which is a stand alone unit. The lake and chapel are easily accessed by a short walk with shops and restaurants just a short drive away. Henkel Hut came with everything we needed including all kitchen items to enjoy a meal or two. The Chalet provided a convenient spot for a day trip to Mount Cook and Hooker Valley Track as well as a short drive for a fun night of star gazing at Chameleon Star Gazing. The Chalet was a super find for us and so glad we were able to book. At the time of this writing their website was not available however you can click the link on trip advisor to "e-mail hotel" to reach out.

Zita, Walter and Judith are friendly, smiling and thoughtful hosts, and so knowledgeable of this area and its history, having lived here for 40 years. |The first and lasting impression of these facilities is the immaculate cleanliness – in our room every area, cupboard, utensil and surface was well maintained and clean. |We stayed in a one bedroom room with a lake view. Out the front of the sliding glass doors there was a cute paved area bordered with a garden in full bloom. It was a prime spot to sit at the outdoor table and chairs to soak in the perfect views of the lake and the ever changing cloud formations across the mountains.|The bed was super comfortable, the shower hot and the towels thick and thirsty – there was even a separate washer and moist towelette for makeup removal. These people have an eye for detail, including quality ground coffee in small packets for the plunger for the breakfast brew.|It was so nice to have the capacity to enjoy some meals assembled in our kitchenette from local produce (the salmon fillet from Mt Cook Alpine Salmon Shop collected on our journey to Lake Tekapo was a winner!). And having that bit of extra space to spread out that doesn’t come with a regular motel room, is always appreciated. We even had the opportunity to get some laundry done, which made the next leg of our journey so much easier.|Thank you to Zita, Walter and family for your hospitality and warmth. And a special thank you for finding our left behind charger before we’d even missed it!! We are so lucky to have stayed in such a beautiful home. The owners are very friendly and knowledgeable. They made us feel at ‘home’. The chalet is very well maintained with beautiful garden, unparalleled views of the lake and snow capped mountains. We stayed in the one bedroom apartment with great views from the living room and the garden. This is the place we would like to come soon.
