The Chen Melbourne - Art Series

It’s been a while since I last stayed at The Chen in Box Hill, VIC, so I was really glad when work lined up for me to stay there again. The location is spot on for meetings across Melbourne, and it made everything incredibly convenient. I’m from South West Sydney and always say we’re blessed with some of the best food in the world thanks to our strong migrant culture — especially from South East Asia. But Box Hill genuinely impressed me. The variety of Chinese, Korean and Japanese cuisine within easy walking distance of the hotel was amazing. If you’re a food lover, this location alone is a huge plus. The rooms are very comfortable and clean, with a modern feel that makes it easy to unwind after a long day. The only thing worth noting is that the hot water runs extremely hot and can be quite sensitive to adjust. It’s a bit fidgety trying to find the right temperature for a shower or even washing your hands, as it can suddenly turn boiling hot. Just something to be mindful of. A big thank you to the front-of-house team for the warm welcome. The lobby has a great vibe, highlighted by the signature Chen calligraphy artwork, which gives the hotel a unique character. Sue in particular provided excellent customer service and was lovely to chat with about our experiences staying at Accor hotels around the world. Overall, I would highly recommend The Chen. Great location, comfortable rooms, fantastic food options nearby, and friendly staff — it ticks all the boxes.

Staff were very friendly and welcoming even when we arrived at 12am. Rooms were neat and excellent service. My favourite was the little kitchenette with a sink in the room. Bathroom were clean and designed well for comfort. It was 2mins walk to the super markets and train station. 20 mins to CBD by train was another plus. Throughly enjoyed our stay and will go again.

A lovely stay. We had a twin queen room, and while it felt a little compact, we really enjoyed our stay along with the art theme throughout the hotel. Some sustainability initiatives and innovative wooden pass keys were thoughtful touches. Standout breakfast in the cafe on the ground floor too. Only issue was finding a place to get dropped off, there is no allocated parking or reception bay near the entrance, only a narrow laneway at the rear.

We are staying at the chen for a week. Reception staff are very friendly and helpful Its very conveniently located near a tram stop and train near Boxhill Plaza The room we are in on Floor 2 room 203 Has a mini kitchen With sink, fridge, tea towel, sponge. The room has an ironing board and iron, safe. We were given two key cards and one key card is left just inside the room so you can keep your air-conditioning on while your out. Level 2 There is a laundry washing machine and dryers you can get washing powder and laundry bags from reception coin operated $1 @ $2 coins. Tv and loads of storage space The pool is warm and has steps for getting in and is long enough for doing laps The gym is conveniently located next to the pool. The people in the reception are very nice, friendly and helpful. Our room was clean, bed was very comfy. Location is fantastic - just across the shopping mall. We really enjoyed our stay. The only concern we had was parking. We were only able to park at the hotel carpark the next morning as it was full on our first night. Other than that, we had an amazing time. highly recommend!

Very well located hotel - the airport shuttle bus stops a few minutes walk from the hotel! The staff were efficient and friendly. The room was comfortable, an excellent size and had a very handy kitchenette. Lovely bathroom amenities. I was very pleased with this hotel. Oodles of eating options within 5 minutes walk too.

Came here for a staycation with the kids and they loved the pool! The view from the rooftop was great. The room was comfortable and had all we needed - it would have been nice to be able to watch on-demand TV though, either on the TV or by connecting a phone, but there is free wifi which was a plus. We went to Box Hill Central for dinner, only a short walk away. Check out at 11am meant we could use the pool in the morning too.

I booked a Chen Deluxe King Balcony and it looked nothing like the Chen Deluxe King Balcony on the website (which I was expecting based on past stays) so that was a bit misleading. No extra pillows in the room and no answer when we called reception - we went down and they bought pillows to the room so worked out fine but a hassle for us and hassle for them. There was nowhere to use Accor welcome drinks and the welcome gift was two cans of mineral water, a cookie and pack of crisps - as a Platinum member I had expected a better quality. Unable to use Accor dining privileges at Golden Lily (which had been OK in the past) so that was disappointing. The staff were lovely, room was clean and car parking was helpful.
