The Chiangmai Nest Guesthouse

My husband and I recently stayed 6 nights at the Nest Guesthouse. If I could have cancelled after the first night, I would have, but it ended up being an okay experience. The room is small, the bathroom is tiny. You know, the kind of bathroom where the shower is between the sink and the toilet and the entire room gets soaked when you shower because the room IS the shower. If you were a tall man, your knees might not fit between the toilet and the wall. ||The bed was possibly as old as I am. I could feel individual coils when I laid down. My husband woke up very sore every morning. ||But, the linens were clean and cheery, the towels were soft. There was an armoir to put our clothes in, which was nice. There were no bugs. The room had a great air conditioner that we used as white noise to block out the noise from the bars on the street. The door/wall to the balcony is really thin and you hear everything - even the cat's meow out there.||The service however, was great. The French gentleman who manages/owns? the Nest was very gentle and kind and makes INCREDIBLE CROISSANTS!! He and the Thai receptionist did their best to give us directions and they were very human with us. Breakfast was not included, but was a reasonable price and done right. (I recommend you go just for breakfast -the croissants- if you can!)||The maid is one of those rare exceptional employees who sees what needs to be done and does it. She kept busy and did a good job cleaning our room. ||If you were coming from a hostel, this might be an upgrade and you may be happy with the room. The place reminds me of a very nice hostel. If you are on a budget (like we are) then it might also work for you if you do not mind very hard old beds. But if you have been staying in hotels during your travels, you might have a difficult time adjusting to the Nest.

I stayed here for three nights in March 2014 having found the hotel via Expedia, with which I always book my accommodation. On arrival, I was very quickly processed by the young lady behind the reception desk and found that my room was on the second floor at the rear. ||||The room itself is equipped with a TV, has air conditioning (this is extra which is payable locally or like I did, via Expedia) and a fan. There is a small bathroom and there is a double bed. The room is quite basic but is more than adequate for my personal needs. There is also a safe in the room and at night it is very quiet. This hotel is excellent for the solo traveller or couples who are on a budget.||||Readers should note that the reception is closed from 1800-0700 and you are supplied with a keyfob to work the electronic door, however I had no problems at all. They also serve breakfast here, however I didn't have any so I can't comment on that but I must say that the eating area looked very nice and clean.||||The area itself is a great area to stay - Moon Muang Soi 2 cost me just 100 Baht to get to and from the airport and there are some great bars at the end of the Soi and in the immediate area, where you will get NO hassle to buy drinks for the girls who work there.||||In conclusion, I will definately stay here again as it is a fine guest house, is in a good location and has a friendly staff and owner. I read some of the other reviews to this hotel and I think the authors expect a little too much! If you want a 24/7 reception, bigger room, more comfortable bed, more amenities, a bar, quieter air con you need to PAY! There are hotels in town which have all this but yes you have a to pay more - it's not rocket science!||||It should be noted that French and English is spoken by the owner here.

Clean room, friendly girl on reception. Guest house is in downtown close to everything.You can have fan room or air con room. Tours can be booked from there if you like to go to tiger temple, elephant ride, jungle hike, rafting or any attractions and adventures chiangmai has to offer. I never pass trough lobby area without seeing the girl there smile. i have payed to be there 4 nights but my plan had change and I left day earlier, without asking for it I got refunded around 70% of price.

This was without a doubt the worst customer service I have ever experienced whilst travelling. When I booked through expedia I was instructed to contact Chiang Mai Nest Guest House to arrange alternative checkin arrangements if arriving after 9pm. I knew I wasn't arriving until 10pm so I emailed them to organise how to check in. I received an email from Pam saying they were open until 1am so no need to organise anything - just turn up. So I did, and when I arrived they were closed!!! There is no one inside all lights turned off. Fortunately someone passed by who knew the owner and called her to tell her someone was waiting to check in. Another 30 mins later waiting by myself with my bags in this alleyway she turns up to let me in. No explanation, no apology, nothing. Only a 500 baht key deposit was requested which I paid. I asked what time they open as I had to leave by 7.45am to start a week long volunteer program. She said no problem they open at 7.30 so she will be there then to give my key deposit back and to serve breakfast. I came down at 7.30am, and no one was there. Absolutely ridiculous. I waited til 7.45am but no one showed up and I had to leave. I had no choice but to leave my key on the front desk without getting my 500 baht deposit back. Extremely frustrating. When I arrived at the volunteer camp I emailed them to explain what had happened and that I would be back at the end of the week to collect my money. No reply. I emailed again two days later. No reply. I am so appalled in this customer service. I went out of way on the following Sunday anyway to show up in person despite no reply to my emails and much to my surprise they did agree to return my 500 baht to me. However again no apology. DO NOT STAY HERE. There are many places in Chiang Mai - it is just not worth the risk.

Stayed here for 3 nights, room was clean, A/C didn't work when we paid for it, lucky we had a fan in room to help cool it down. Room we stayed in was small with no windows and bathroom was tiny just about fit yourself in to have a shower, shower was always cold and didn't really work that well. Location was good and close to the main shops and restaurants. 3 nights here was enough for me, cheap to stay here but rather pay a little extra to stay somewhere better next time!

Initially we were booked into another guesthouse but when we turned up they had overbooked and directed us here as they had taken the liberty to reserve us a room.||Our room was on the ground floor with no windows, not as clean as I would have liked and I left with some very suspect insect bites over my body. The AC had as much power as an asthmatic hamster with no ventilation at all in the room leaving towels, bedding and flooring damp. ||The location was good though and great for Loi Krathong (lantern festival) as it was on your doorstep. ||I've given them a generous 3/5 on the basis that they put us up when the other place messed us around. |||

Great little guest house, very good rates. I staid for two weeks and loved it. Very quiet, in a quiet st.excellant staff. The building has great old world charm,lots of teak,wood and tiles,and all the usual stuff,wifi,TV
