The Chinese National - SilverKris

"Housed within Swissôtel Jakarta PIK Avenue, this sprawling four-in-one dining destination celebrates Cantonese cuisine with contemporary flair, spanning several stylish spaces—Lan Zhou La Mian Bar, Dragon Well, Iron Needle and The Bao Kitchen—and serving everything from steaming hand-pulled noodles to dim sum and wok-fried classics. Designed with cinematic grandeur, the interiors blend dark wood, jade-green accents and glowing lanterns to create an elegant yet lively mood, while service is attentive yet unpretentious. The kitchen excels at precision—think crisp roast duck, delicate har gow and silky ma po tofu—and it’s a favourite among Jakarta’s business crowd and weekend diners alike. Counted among the capital’s most sophisticated Chinese restaurants, it’s ideal for power lunches or lingering family dinners that end with warm tea and conversation." - James P. Ong

An ultra-stylish Chinese restaurant with 1920s Shanghai-inspired decor. The Peking Duck and hand-pulled noodles are standouts. The ambiance is sophisticated yet lively, perfect for family gatherings. Authentic Cantonese flavors meet modern presentation in the heart of PIK Avenue.

The Chinese National Restaurant at Swissotel Jakarta PIK Avenue offers an elegant Cantonese dining experience. The restaurant boasts a stylish 1920s design and is known for its authentic Cantonese cuisine. The interior is truly exceptional, creating a luxurious and classy ambiance. The restaurant features distinct dining areas, each with a unique atmosphere. There's a noodle and dumpling shop inspired by Hong Kong's stacked apartments, a tea lounge that transforms into a bar at night, a Sichuan restaurant with an Art Deco theme, and a Peking duck-focused area. Although designed for the highest level of service with affordable prices, the food variety might be lacking, and the service hasn't fully reached a comprehensive level. The Floor Captain possesses good skills in handling and monitoring the floor situation and interacts with guests in a relaxed manner, but the waiters still appear quite stiff in serving guests. Overall, if you are looking for authentic Cantonese cuisine in a stylish setting and offcourse with affordable price including promo, The Chinese National is worth considering.

I visited The Chinese National Restaurant for the “Seafood Night Market” dinner buffet around 8 PM, and the experience was deeply disappointing. Despite the theme, there was almost no seafood available. The only items that could be considered seafood were the crab soup and grilled fish that was unfortunately overcooked and tough. The presentation of this buffet as a “Seafood Night Market” is, quite frankly, misleading. Among the offerings, the dim sum was the only item that stood out as genuinely enjoyable. The rest of the selection fell far below the standard expected from a restaurant of this reputation and price point. The most concerning issue, however, was the chefs professionalism. The buffet included a labelled sushi section, yet the tray was completely empty. When we inquired, a female chef approached and informed us she would request a refill from the kitchen. Before doing so, she checked with another chef stationed nearby(hot food and pasta station), and I overheard them said like, “well this is a Chinese restaurant, not Japanese,” followed by laughter. This behavior is highly unprofessional. If the restaurant does not intend to provide sushi or cannot maintain the station properly, then DON’T MAKE IT AS PART OF THE BUFFET! don’t mislead customers and then joke about it five steps away from the people who are literally asking for it. This really reflects poorly on the establishment and its commitment to service integrity. Overall, the experience was far below expectations, from the misleading theme to the lackluster food selection and the concerning staff conduct. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this buffet, nor do I believe it offers value for its price.

Great dining experience here. Come for buffet lunch, most of the counters station by friendly staff ready to serve you. The interior design matches the concept and lovely atmosphere with Chinese melody as background music. They serve great food, taste delicious and have great varieties. Based on the price range and restaurant size, it's truly worth the money. I gave it 4 stars on food, hoping for more options in future. Overall I had a great time here, The staff were attentive and friendly.

As per 01/01/2025 they,ve switched to buffet style, unfortunately no proper communication given to customer during reservation process,,neither they updated their website.. The latest offering is just buffet style,,,eat as you like( they will served you)...while alot of original dishes went missing. Lack of proper communication to the prospectus customers, we were practically went there with false hope based on wrong information on past year menu.👎🥴 So will not going back again ,simply not impressed😑😐🤨 --------------------------- Past review before 01/01/2025 Food wise excellent, good presentations, overall, tasty but read on ; We ordered haisum at @1800 but its only arrived on our table at @2006..😨😵😅. Why on earth your restaurant need such a long time to prepare it?🙄 Did you need to defrost those haisum? Or soakedvinto water before the chef can cooked it? And its supposely soft, but it ended up own quite hard to chew on.🤔😐😑.. Avoid sorbet its too🍧X sour!,choose something else,,! They have hidden dish-chinese styled chawanmushi...(its hidden in the menu,no picture there.😉 Service wise its quite ok, i wander what will happened during weekend..we tried on weekday,,its like they are running ard...(not enough staffs?around).😔 No individual roasted duck to ordered, you can only get it from bbq pork set.👎
