We spotted this little shack while walking along the waterfront in Charlottetown. It was still 15 minutes until opening, but after reading previous Yelp reviews, we decided to stick around and give it a shot.
I'm so glad that we did, and that we were there so early! We were second in line, so we managed to get our food relatively quickly before the line started. I ordered the Pulled Pork Poutine while my SO ordered the Lobster Roll and fries. Both were amazing! The fries had the perfect consistency and flavour, the cheese curds were the right amount of rubbery and flavourful, and the pulled pork was amazing.
We topped off our meal with the Apple Fries and homemade caramel sauce. I don't know how she does it, but they were just as amazing as the main course! They are coated with something (not sure what, but I do know it's gluten free!) and then dipped in the fryer. Crunchy yet soft, these are a must have with every order from here!
We got to catch the owner talk about her process with a tour group while enjoying our lunch. Each PEI-grown potato is infused with love before being cut. Once cut, they are deep-fried twice. The first time is to blanch the potatoes, and the second time is to give them their delicious flavour and the perfect crispiness out the outside with the optimal fluffiness on the inside. Her passion for what she's doing and what she wants to accomplish for herself is inspiring!
When you're looking for a lunch spot in Charlottetown, make sure you don't miss The Chip Shack, where your meal is well-priced and the hugs are free!
